A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001)
I wanted to like it, but...
I just saw this for the first time. I really wanted to like it, but it strayed too far away from the synopsis. I gave it a 3 due to Osment and Law's superb acting. Also, the special effects were great, but they distract from the storyline. It's as if Spielberg's imagination ran amok in a disjointed fashion. I don't think I've ever seen such great acting in a cesspool. Kudos to Osment for his role.
Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)
A showstopping film!!!
Having read some negative critic reviews, I almost skipped this movie. So glad I didn't. This is the best biopic movie I've ever seen and will now be on my top ten movie list. Every aspect of the film from casting to acting to directing is great. The writer and the director managed to provoke emotion from Malek without exploiting Mercury's sexuality or his illness. By not focusing on Mercury's gayness, the audience is able to witness how his flamboyance made him the show-stopping performer that he was. So, go watch. Revel in the music. Marvel at his showmanship. Experience his humanity.
Brothers & Sisters (2006)
Would love to see this show brought back.
This was an excellent family drama and should never have been canceled. Season 6 was set up to be great and then it was canceled. If Will and Grace could be brought back after all the years it was off the air, B & S could be brought back, too. Loved the natural chemistry between Nora and Brody. Bring the show back.
Dark Shadows (2012)
Wanted A Horror Movie
The original TV series was so beloved for its mystique and darkness. It's hard to believe, but this was actually scary at that time. I was excited when I heard the movie was being made. However, I was expecting it to be a full scale horror film. This is what the loyal DS fans were hoping for. It would be great if they would remake this movie in a serious horror style. Bet the profit margin would be significantly higher.
Elvis & Nixon (2016)
Disappointing
I've been waiting to see this movie for a year or longer. Eric Bana was originally supposed to play Elvis, and he would have been a much better fit than Michael Shannon. Michael doesn't look anything like Elvis, and he didn't show any charisma in his performance. Elvis is one of the best looking and most charismatic men to ever live, so it was painful to see this casting train wreck. There are several scenes in the original Elvis Meets Nixon that were left out of this remake: the beginning airport scene where the airline clerk asked Elvis for payment of his ticket and he says "can you send the bill to the Colonel as he has no cash or check book, the scene where he was taken off the plane for carrying a pistol, and the taxicab scene when a Michael Jackson song was playing on the radio. Those were just 3 missed opportunities to spice the movie up. The only redeeming thing about this movie was the convincing performance that Kevin Spacey gave. He looked and played that part to the hilt. I really wanted to love this movie, and I am so disappointed that I could not do so.
Sex and the City 2 (2010)
Give Us A Third Movie And Improved Sequel
I too have seen every episode and both movies numerous times. Many people were displeased with the first movie, even though it was pretty good for the most part in my opinion. However, it could have been improved upon. But practically everyone was displeased with the second movie. The plot was weak, and the bulk of the movie was in a foreign country. The ads always declare that New York is the fifth character, and she was absent from most of it. Also, they finally bring Aiden back, and then they didn't do nearly enough with that character. Now because of this poor sequel everyone says that Sex is over and there should not be a third movie. It's not that our interest is gone. The problem is that the storyline needs to be much improved. We still want to see our gals in a third movie. We just want it to be interesting and dramatic. We need more than exotic locations and glamorous outfits. Michael Patrick King please contact me as I have an excellent idea for a sequel. We want our gals to go out with a bang and not a whimper. They entertained us for several years and they deserve to be remembered well.
Elvis and Me (1988)
Dale Midkiff's portrayal of Elvis is hypnotic!
I love watching movies based on the life of Elvis as most of us do, and I particularly liked this one since it was from Priscilla's prospective. Susan Walters made a fascinating Priscilla. Dale Midkiff, although not as visually similar as Kurt Russell's portrayal of Elvis, brought an electric sensitivity to this part. Midkiff can hypnotize an audience with a single stare without ever uttering a word which made him the perfect choice for the role of Elvis. In my opinion, this movie gave an insightful look into the complex life and emotions of Elvis and Priscilla and is a must see for their fans. If you're not an Elvis fan, it's worth watching just to view Midkiff for a few hours.
