The School for Good and Evil (2022)
No connection at all
So interesting to see a couple of famous actors and it feels like they are doing this unprepared and almost like u experienced actors. So there must be more than this to get great results than just hiring great actors (well , the famous ones are great, the other ones are really inexperienced). Maybe it's the script, maybe it's the director, but although everything looked great, it didn't got you involved as a viewer. The two main characters didn't got my sympathy at all and best is to compare this with something like Harry Potter or Wednesday, where you instantly get connected to the characters.
Disney Insider (2020)
So much better than One Day at Disney
Although the concept is the same, 5 minutes behind the scenes, Disney Insider focuses more on all the departments and companies connected with Disney and not so much 'a day in the life of', as One Day At Disney.
I got to see departments and processes, you don't normally get to see some footage of. Like the inking department, Disney ornaments design, mapping department at National Geographic, Dancing with the stars or Star Wars action figures design.
It could have been presented per item instead of 3 items per episode. I don't see the connection here.
Besides that, I really hope they'll come up with a second season.
Fire of Love (2022)
Voice over gone wrong
So first the documentary itself. It's skillfully done and smooth to the end. The pace is perfect and every 10 minutes there are these small intermezzos of fun between Katia and Maurice. In all these short quotes of them, you can sense there commitment to each other and to their work.
Speaking about work. Respect for this team. These are all recordings of other people you have to work with and create a story out of all these hours of scenes that look the same but are from different times and different locations.
The foley work is a little bit to exaggerated. All these footsteps and noise sounds. You can almost picture someone stepping into some gravel with a microphone next to it.
About the voice over. Unbelievable this wasn't redone. It feels like the text was sent to Miranda July without any video material and she recorded everything with her phone in a bedroom. Why Sara Dosa approved this or anyone else, is a mystery. It really makes the film more dull than it really is.
Gekijô-ban Kimetsu no Yaiba Mugen Ressha-hen (2020)
Just 2 episodes as one
This movie takes of where season one of the series stops and it is just that, 2 episodes stitched together. So if you didn't see the series, you need at least watch a recap before watching this. Although I've seen a lot of anime movies and I know Japanese animation has a different approach than western animation, I was very underwhelmed by this one and not moved at all.
- when characters start crying in this kind of anime, they open the flood gates, visually and auditory. But that doesn't mean you will understand or feel their pain. So you're watching just some crazy emotional stuff and it doesn't move you at all. It almost made me burst in laughter when someone fell down to earth and started crying like crazy.
- most characters are very superficial, although the storyline pretends they have a lot of emotional bagage to deal with.
- the storyline doesn't hold much: a train has been taken over by a demon who needs to be killed
- 80% of the movie is just fighting with no build up. So after a while, this gets boring and when you think it's done, there is another 20 min fight. It looks stunning though
Only watch this movie when you love the series.
48 Christmas Wishes (2017)
Terrible acting
I don't mind lowering my standards for a cheesy christmas movie, but with this level of acting, it's very hard to do.
Dog Days (2018)
Dogs actually
Love's Actually dog version. Starts of pretty lame, but gets better to the end.
