The Little Mermaid (2023)
Halle Bailey
Halle has the voice of an angel. Her singing gave me chills and brought tears to my eyes.
I liked the little changes that were made throughout the movie. It was nice to see Ariel exploring the island and dancing with Eric. Also, the slight change to the lyrics of "Kiss the Girl" was a nice choice. Overall, I really enjoyed this movie. I would also love to see spin-offs about Ariel's sisters.
I took off one star because of the voice of Sebastian. I don't understand why they wouldn't just cast a Jamaican man instead of hiring a bunch of dialect coaches for Diggs. I'm also not the biggest fan of Awkwafina, lol. I've been seeing a lot of people criticize Melissa McCarthy but I thought that she made a good Ursula. I was actually surprised by her singing voice.
Don't let the bad reviews deter you from watching this movie. Halle deserves all of her flowers for this role.
Fractured (2019)
Solid movie! Don't listen to the rating.
Wow! What a twist! This movie could have been shown in theaters. My family and I really enjoyed it. You'll be frustrated for most of the film, but stay until the end.
The Invitation (2015)
Slow burn
Be prepared to be bored for the first hour. Nothing really happens until there are 30 minutes left of the film! I've literally never seen a slower movie.
Also, it kind of doesn't make sense for a suicide cult to want to take others down with them. What was their motive? If they wanted to "join" their deceased loved ones, they could have done so without killing so many others. We also never find out what happened to the lady who left the house early on. Was she killed too? And why was no one besides the main character alarmed by the fact that the homeowners could lock people IN the house? David gave a sorry excuse about there being break ins in that area, but the point of locks should be to keep people OUT. *Sigh* the more you think about this film, the worse it gets. I left 2 stars because I made it through the whole film..although I kind of wish that I hadn't.
The Lion King (2019)
Beautiful film
Great movie! It's very similar to the original, but not identical. That's great if you're like me and can recite the whole dialogue. Whoever was responsible for casting needs a raise! Everyone was a perfect fit for their role. The music was great, and the animals were beautiful. Go see this film!
The Real Housewives of Potomac (2016)
Entertaining
I rated this based on how well it keeps my attention, not on the quality of the content. This is your typical trash TV, but it's definitely not boring. Most of the ladies on this show are annoying. After watching all of season 1 and part of season 2, I can say that Gizelle is delusional and insecure, Karen is a hypocrite who always touts etiquette, Charrisse is just all around horrible, Katie is a desperate, annoying airhead, and Ashley married for money and was desperate for Karen's approval. Robyn is definitely the only likeable woman on the show (I don't know much about Monique yet). You'll like this show if you like any of the other Real Housewives, Basketball Wives, etc. If you're not into that kind of thing, don't bother tuning in.
Little (2019)
Not Good...
Little was predictable and just unfunny. Like, really unfunny. There were maybe 2 funny moments in the whole film. The storyline was blah, and rushed, and just didn't make sense. For example, no school has talent show auditions 2 days before the talent show. And did they think we wouldn't notice that they used the same actress to play Jordan's bully as a child and when she's trapped in her child body? It's a shame because I love Issa, Regina, and Marsai. Watch this movie if you want to support them, not if you're looking for quality.
On My Block (2018)
Great Show!
I love this show because it doesn't fit into one box. It's not just romance, just comedy, just drama, or just suspense/mystery. It's all of the above. Some people don't like that, but I think that's what makes it (1) great and (2) relatable. No one's life fits into just one category. It's a series of ups and downs, laughs and sobs. You get all of that in On My Block. There's something in this show for everyone. Watch it! You won't regret it!
The Perfect Date (2019)
It's pretty bad.
Netflix, you can't just throw Noah Centineo into a subpar movie and expect no one to notice. This movie was seriously rushed. Some of the characters' actions just didn't make sense. Who kisses someone literally 3 seconds after a public breakup, and asks them to a dance even though they've met like 3 times? No one! And would it kill Noah to put forth some effort? You can't play the same role in every film. Also, there was no character development for anyone except Brooks, a sorry excuse for a plot, and no chemistry between the male and female leads. Throw the whole movie away. It only got 4 stars because I managed to sit through the whole thing.
Krystal (2017)
Surprisingly Good
I put this movie on for background noise while I cooked, and ended up enjoying it. I took of two stars because Nick Robinson's southern accent is horrible, and the devil thing was pretty weird.
