The Last Ship: Valkyrie (2015)
Hole
Overall a good episode, sad to see some people go but what can you do?
My biggest issue with this episode was how they just completely skipped over the main event of the episode. The rhib team from the beach were heading to the oil rig to help fight off the attacking civilian boat. The
helicopter arrived but was told to not to pick them up because of the danger posed by the gas leaks, they noticed that the gas leak came from the main valve and there were some explosions shown from far away and then it just faded to black.
Out of nowhere the helicopter that was told it was too dangerous to pick them up had picked them up, people were dying of unknown injuries that weren't ever shown on screen and everybody was just magically back on the ship including the rhib team. It just felt weird that the most impactful event of the entire episode happened completely off screen. Aside from that it was a solid episode.
Ozark: A Hard Way to Go (2022)
Rushed
Wow, I had a feeling the ending was going to be underwhelming for the last half of the season but I didn't expect this. It just felt rushed and like a cheap cop out, kill off some key people for no reason.
Have all the characters do uncharacteristic stuff and then just end it with no conclusions to anything. This whole show has been a solid 8.5-9/10 for me, such a shame that it had to get a 1/10 ending. Just another addition to the "Amazing series with horribly written ending" pile.
The Green Knight (2021)
Visually stunning nonsense
Very beautiful film, the acting was good and so on. Nothing much more than that I'm afraid. Seemingly the whole budget went to visual effects and making it look good in general and everything else got left behind in the dust. What was the point of it?
Everything that happened was semi-implicit in the sense that nothing was ever explained, it just happened and we were (were we?) supposed to just understand what everything was about.
It was nice to look at but it really didin't offer anything else, in my opinion an overly ambitious attempt at something profound that just fell flat.
Off with its head.
Old (2021)
Good concept, bad execution
As most movies nowadays I feel like it had potential but for some reason they decided to do absolutely nothing with it.
The idea is good and there are several interesting paths and angles to explore but they didn't, the kids aged and the adults deteriorated, end of story.
Now I know it's based on a novel but while watching the movie I just got the feeling that he had this great idea and all of a sudden they were on location and started shooting but no script was written and they just sort of improvised the whole thing and tried to quickly tie it up with the revelation of the scientists at the end. The acting sort of felt detached somehow, like they were all drunk or in some way not all there, dazed maybe? Maybe it was intentionally written that way but they didn't feel like real people, sort of how everyone acted in Killing of a Sacred Deer almost. Weird can be good but not when it's just weird for the sake of being weird.
Running with the Devil (2019)
Yikes
It was an alright movie with some interesting things and developments here and there but ultimately the ending ruined it all. Yes drugs are bad, everyone knows that.
You know what's also bad? Corrupt cops. You don't want to see none of them win but since the whole movie was based around the drug dealers and their methods of producing and smuggling their goods you'd think it was going to have more than that. No.
You get 1 hour 30 minutes of random drug smuggling scenes and 10 seconds at the end with a cop who wasn't good enough at her job so she just decided to kill someone instead. You have tons of movies where everything just goes bad for everyone, no one wins and they manage to make it good. This was not one of those movies. Cage was good though, pretty much the only plus this movie has.
6 Underground (2019)
Interesting plot, absolutely horrendous music
Interesting movie with a fun plot but it was completely ruined by that god awful "music" that just made it feel like some dumb youtube compilation video.
Bird Box (2018)
The only good thing
..about this movie was that sarah paulson was offed quickly, I can't stand her.
The American Meme (2018)
Self pity-palooza
This whole thing was just filled to the brim with "poor me" people who were complaining about having to take the consequences of their actions.
Everything was soo hard and their egos were constantly bruised but not a single one (except Paris Hilton surprisingly) had enough self awareness to step down from it all and actively try to make their "problems" go away.
An abundance of narcissism and a disconnect from reality, not to mention the title of the documentary that managed to completely misunderstand what a meme is.
River Runs Red (2018)
Absolutely horrible
First off, worst movie I've seen in a long time.
Bad editing, even worse dialogue. Scattered storyline, and just plain nonsense.
The gun he placed by CJ in the beginning isn't even the same gun they showed in the pictures later. I mean how hard is that to get right?
The message? If you don't like what someone did, kill them! Your opinion is enough justification to do whatever you want apparently.
I can't believe how this got to a score of 7,3, honestly I would give it a 0,3 but the star rating system only gives me the option of giving one and that's incredibly generous for this movie. Complete waste of time.
Hereditary (2018)
Horrible
Boring, plain and weak are the best words to describe this movie.
The fake reviews are around yet again I see, the only thing that could put this into the horror category is how horrifyingly dumb and bad this thing was...
The Bad Batch (2016)
What happened here?
This seems like the result of some bad planning, they put all their money into hiring actors and building the post-apocalyptic setting and totally forgot about writing a script. Basically nothing happened, the numerous questions that were posed remained unanswered throughout the film, they walked and they walked but never got there. Is that the meaning of the film? Never getting there? 0,5 out of 10, complete waste of time.
