Don Juan DeMarco (1994)
A beautiful fantasy
I want to live in Don Juan's world. Johnny Depp at 32(?) is quite believable as a 19 year old. He is also even more sexy than usual. I love him as Don Juan, but I think the most touching scene is when he is being interviewed by the judge and is "just a kid" and admitting to his real story. I cried when Marlon Brando asks Faye Dunaway what she wants to do and she says "I thought you'd never ask." I missed these characters after the movie was over. I could watch it over and over.
What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993)
A touching film
I don't generally care much for DeCaprio, but in this he did an excellent job. It is hard to believe it is the same person. But the real star of the movie is Johnny Depp. I really felt for his character, Gilbert. The other characters seemed to just be there to explain Gilbert's situation.
Benny & Joon (1993)
Johnny Depp is awesome
This is one of my all time favorite movies. The acting was excellent, especially Johnny Depp. The characters where believable. The setting was beautiful. It shows Joon as being mentally ill (she hears voices), but she is smart and well educated. And she is functioning at a higher level than she does because Benny has always sheltered her. It shows Sam as being sane and intelligent, but totally uneducated. Everything he knows he has figured out for himself (ie: making grilled cheese by using an iron). They balance each other. Mary Stewart Masterson did a frighteningly good job of portraying a crazy person. Johnny Depp is the master at conveying emotion and thought thru facial expressions.
