Bitterblue (2007)
Another Poorly Acted Christian Film
They should have a warning that it is a Christian film so it can be avoided by those that do not want that agenda pushed down their throats. All these type of films tend to use people and money from their own church with weak or little plots and terrible acting. A waste of time.
Elsewhere (2019)
Disappointing ending
The movie started off very well. His best friend Felix was developed after the fact. Not very good tactic. Parker Posey was an excellent choice for the new girlfriend. But the ending with him going ... somewhere on the ferry. Maybe to find her? Was not clear in the rough draft she sent him of her book, if that is what that was. No closure. Poor choice to be artsy with this type of ending.
Tulsa (2020)
Another bible thumper flick
All these born-again Christian films are so terribly acted with a next to zero plot used to promote their religious beliefs rather than tell an actual story. This was a total waste of time. When I saw the producer's name at the beginning starring in the film I suspected it was this genre. They always go over the top promoting Jesus like this is the only religion on the planet and every line drips of it. You can see all the ratings coming from their friends in their church giving 10s and the normal audience giving 1s and 2s. Sorry, but this was a poor project.
Out of Time (2020)
Horrible accent, and stunt choreography.
A fairly good plot idea, but was lost as you cannot understand 70% of what the kid is saying because of his very poor English accent. Dad was not much better. The fight choreography was terrible and so fake. The bully falling off the short wall on to the soft grass and lay unconscious was a bit of a reach. The kid crawling out of the 1st floor window onto his sloped roof causing everyone to panic as if he was on the ledge of a 15 floor building pretending to jump should have been omitted. What was this director thinking? The boy is 11, dad had gone to prison for a vague reason for 8 years and the kid acting like he was gone for only a month was unreal as well. The kid would not remember him. Please don't direct until you get some lessons.
Breakthrough (2019)
Another Born Again Christian Film
Why is it that these Born Again Christians constantly make films without using good actors? They mostly use people from their church following and shove their religion down the throats of innocent movie goers. The actors were below average, story was not not so great, and has a religious agenda.
Lost Highway (1997)
A waste of time, talent and money
One of the worst films I have ever struggled to sit through. I didn't know who the director was when I sat for this viewing, nor had ever heard of the film. I saw Bill Pullman and a few other names so gave it a try. This was a total bomb, as evidenced at the box office. Right off, one could tell the director was trying very hard for an obvious artsy appeal and lost big time. $15 million was wasted on this project and director. When I think of all the good stories and entertainment that struggled to get funding and something like this makes it to the screen, it makes me very disappointed in Hollywood. A very sad and ridiculous film.
Le grand bleu (1988)
Fantastic directing, cinematography, musical score and acting!
Besson did a superb job on "The Big Blue." Directing and writing was spot on and everything gelled perfectly. Very good use of hidden text.
Varini captured awesome camera angles with many difficult shots. He and Besson were able to make use of the under-water scenes to give the haunting effect needed for the story line.
As for the music, well Bill Conti, can I say any more? It moved the story forward at the right pace.
Reno did probably his best acting. Besson and Reno also teamed up in "Leon" bringing out the same lonely character bent upon perfection of his art.
Barr, his quiet presence, dominated the emotional scenes and acquired the effect desired upon the audience.
Arquette was beautiful and entertaining. She brought the audience to fall in love with Barr at the same time.
The ending leaves you wondering and looking for something that so many of us seek, but few of us ever find. I never tire of watching this masterpiece.
Bravo! Chris Prochownik
