The Finest Hour (1991)
Good movie with lots of action and romance!
Rob Lowe and Gale Hansen star in this action movie that touches on romance. Rob Lowe plays a fairly sleezy character while Gale Hansen manages to 'wow' us once again with his superb acting talent. Gale, from Dead Poets Society fame, finds himself in a rather unusual role playing a Navy SEAL.
Both men do a good job with their given roles, but it has to be said that Mr Hansen pulls off his character with both charisma and sensitivity as he falls in love with his best friends wife.
Top marks to his acting ability for this - i was totally mesmerised by his actions.
Just sad to say though, that he isn't in many movies - i could watch the man for days without a break :OD

Shaking the Tree (1990)
Great movie
I got this movie because i really liked Gale Hansen in Dead Poets Society. The guy is brilliant! Don't listen to other people when they say this is boring - it really isn't. Its funny, full of one-liners and well acted (at least by Gale!).
Its a touching story in places, very 80s/90s cusp and tells the story of four male friends who are branching out into their lives with different ideas on what life will/wont hold for them. Two of them are successful, one is trying to be (if he ever finishes his novel) and the fourth is a rich kid/dead beat with a gambling problem. We watch the four living through their problems and successes with women, work and life. The only thing keeping them all together is their friendship.
Its also a fun film in places too (especially the baseball game part - Gale you are so funny...you have me in stitches!.
Personally i was sad to see it end - i could have quite easily sat through another two hours of Sully's 'shenanigans' :OD
Enjoy!
The Boys Next Door (1996)
A lot better than some of you are giving credit for...
Firstly i have to admit that i have not seen the stage play of the movie and unless Robert Sean Leonard is going to be in it, i am unlikely to :OD
i happened across this movie one afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed it. so much so that Tony Goldwyn's character inspired me to write a short story (i am a writer).
I understand that while many of you have witnessed first hand the performances in the play whether as an audience or the cast, i feel its unfair to criticise the movie. i didnt feel that Robert Sean Leonard was hogging the movie (in fact like him or not, i'd have been happier seeing a whole lot more of him - the man being very easy on the eyes and a magnificent actor). Norman and his housemates were all very good too.
i enjoyed the movie so much that the next time it came on i taped it and n ow i've put in an order to purchase it.
By the way, my fave parts have to be (other than RSl and TG's performances), the 'catch it, kill it and flush it' scene, norman's head having to be 'moved' by Jack when norman sees the neighbours keys, and Jacks response to Barry's father when he asks, 'what are you? like a 'keeper'?' and he replies, 'no, i'm like a 'friend'.
superbly acted.....10/10

Dahmer (2002)
Amazing acting by Mr Renner
Despite others suggesting this movie is grotesque, i would actually suggest you watch it. it not only portrays the killer, Jeffery Dahmer, as a very sad, pathetic individual, it also give the audience an excellent chance to see the very talented Jeremy Renner doing what he clearly loves to do - act. I have to be honest and explain i only watched the movie because i saw Jeremy Renner in SWAT and wanted to see him in something else. Then i hired Dahmer and, at first, couldnt make head nor tail of it. The second time i watched it i was more interested and tried to understand what it was about as it is mostly in flashbacks (and even the flashbacks have flashbacks). The third time i watched it it made even more sense. All real-life murdeous terror aside, i was intrigued by Jeffery's inner sadness and actually began to feel more sorrow for him than of his victims. The movie is well cast, well made and suffice to say i no longer have to hire the movie as i bought my own copy! Don't dismiss it just because of some blood and gore - truly its not a slasher movie, but something waaay more subtle. Jeremy Renner is a fantastic actor. Watch the movie, if only for a beautiful actor with amazing abilities.
