The Night Manager (2023)
Best (if you have not seen the original??)
Just before writing the review, I looked at some of the reviews depicting and comparing the original version which I did not watch yet. With that I have nothing to compare with and I found the series best watched of late based on the genre.
Either producer and director have the best leadership quality or everyone in the cast given their best or they are just the best. Even the kid did wonderful job. All of them got into the skin of the character and delivered. My favorites are Brij Pal (Saswata Chatterjee) and Kaveri (Sobhita Dhulipala). The writer and the actors put so much juices into these two characters that you love it and hate him at the same time.
Hates off!!
Btw, I watched the Farzi the weekend before and I did not like it as much, maybe because I loved Breaking Bad to be my best show ever till now :-)
Thai Massage (2022)
This movie tells us to open our eyes when dealing with an elderly person...
The great thing about the movie is that it did not reflect any vulgar side of physical intimacy. If we leave behind the kissing scene (slightly longer than I thought it would be), we should be watching it together with the entire family. This movie rings a wake up call for all orthodox side of us that a senior or elderly person can not explore what he/she feels within themselves.
I really appreciate the writer and the director who without maligning the culture and tradition perfectly projected how someone still live life the way someone wants.
How rightly he said to the young lad that you should not do this as you are married.
Hates off to all around, including that Russian girl :-)
Never Have I Ever: ...lived the dream (2022)
Quite an amazing way to end the season
How the emotions flowing, the bonding, cameraderie between school mates, everything kind of so touchy and fun.
The emotional scenes of Paxton's dad hugs Paxton, Nalini remembering her dad before they visit Colorado and the last scene bring tears to the eyes.
So well crafted script and wholesome entertainment.
I think there one character which which looks odd but very realistic is Trent. His acting being a weird guy stands out.
Fabiola, Eleanor are amazing in their own way. Eleanor has that extra thing though her love for Trent was a bit weird.
I loved the character of Pati, being an Indian I can relate to her. A grandmom who could be very loving but at the same time strict.
The Family Man (2019)
Season finale could have been better
There is no doubt that the series have all the elements needed to be hooked or binge watch. Samantha as Raji did justice to her role. She could able to bring in that anger or intelligence through her body language and eyes.
Manoj Bajpai as the lead did his part great.
Worth mentioning about Chellam Sir :-), Seema as PM, Muthu, Jebraja. Dhruti did way beyond as a teenager.
Only thing I was disappointed as the season finale.. There were too may things, too many running around and eventually turned into a predicable plot.
I feel finale had been rushed through.
Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana (2017)
Very refreshing and realistic
After a long time I watched a movie which have all aspects of a middle class family. The depiction was so surreal you would feel it could happen to anyone.
It also tells you a lesson that don't hurt a man's ego wrongfully and communication is a key.
Rajkumar Rao as usual a star performer. Kriti did her job well. Big contribution from Nayani Dikshit.
Go and watch!
Jab Harry Met Sejal (2017)
More an European tour less story....
A mediocre movie with a bland story. With back to back 2/3 mediocre movies from SRK, I was expecting something different this time. Almost entire time I left I was on a European tour rather than engaging on what might bring something interesting. First half had few witty lines from SRK. Anushka's gujju ascent fell apart periodically, otherwise she did her part. Song sequences were odd to come along with the flow of the story.
My rating between 5 and 6.
Jagga Jasoos (2017)
Go only if you are not up for anything this weekend!
First of all musical theme was totally unexpected. I don't know most of us would like a Bollywood musical. On the positive side, cinematography was good but CGI was flawed. Africa and Manipur were quite picturesque but we were expecting beyond those.
Actingwise Ranbir was good.
Housefull 3 (2016)
Just have fun....
Don't come with too high expectations. Remember its a Bollywood comedy movie, you might see some trite moments. So seat back, relax and sure you'll laugh. Everyone delivered what best they could do based on the story-line. Akki with split personality was very good. Ritesh was wonderful. AB was nice too. Boman, no question about it. Girls, I would say only Jacqueline was looking mesmerizing and convincing in her role. Other girls were so so. Jackie had a nice and short stint but played well his part. Couple of good numbers. Nice photography and choreography.
Overall a nice entertainer. Go watch it.
Katti Batti (2015)
Incredible waste of time
Awfully scripted, badly acted, lame comedic and pathetic musicality. These are what you would see in this movie. Watch promos/trailers instead. I had high expectations from Kangana before the release. But after seeing couple of reviews, I brought myself down to a level to avoid total disappointment. But it did not help.
I can totally understand why people walked out of the theater midway. Felt bad about Imran because of this consistent bad choice of movies. He lost another chance. Kangana would be surely grounded now. Its been a while she was in the air.
My Rating: Acting: 3, Direction : 3, Script: 3, Cinematography: 6, Music: 3
Ek Villain (2014)
An average movie...and a lost opportunity..
I felt the story was pretty typical, plot was not really unknown.
The plus point of the movie was length, couple of good songs and Riteish Deshmukh.
I also felt that this was an lost opportunity for Siddharth and Shraddha... Because of intensity of the situation, Siddharth could have delivered a awesome performance but he did not. His emotions fell short. His expression while fighting with the goons in the boat was more like forced himself into acting.... Shraddha's comic parts could have been better and real.
Aamna Sharif did full justice to her role as Riteish's nagging wife.
My rating just below 6....
Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014)
Only for heavy action lovers
In a nutshell, this is a movie completely for those who are crazy about actions sequences. I don't remember when did I watch last a Hollywood flick which was covered with around 80-85% of actions scenes, at least when the movie is close to 3 hours running time.
Positive side of the movie is introduction of new characters (and famous), addition of Dinobots, some of the super-slow motion action sequences of Autobots. Also some humorous scenes between father and daughter.
If you are planning for a late night show and a bit sleepy and you don't enjoy continuous heavy actions, you might end up with a headache.
6.5 out of 10.
