Dude Bro Party Massacre III (2015)
The Best Movie You've Never Heard Of
I was lucky enough to stumble across this movie at the LA Film Festival back in '15 and loved the concept immediately. I've shown it at a coupe movie nights and, even as an existing fan, I get surprised by how well the movie does in a crowd. Don't take the movie too seriously - it's over-the-top silly fun, but has a ton of cleverness to it too. Visually, they really capture the look of an '80s horror Sleepaway Camp style slasher movie. Super funny & very re-watchable!
The Triangle (2016)
Creepy Slow Burn Mystery - Very Worth the Watch
I felt compelled to throw in my two cents as the review on the main page seems to miss the point. Listen, this movie may not be for everyone, but it is a quality piece of eerie mystery filmmaking. Fans of Ari Aster (Hereditary & especially Sommerset) or Robert Eggers (The Witch, The Lighthouse) will like this film. It is documentary-style and they create a great world where you feel that there's something just under the surface that is a little off. Check it out, but if you're in the mood for a slasher or a more in-your-face horror movie, maybe it's not for you.
Anything Else (2003)
The best Woody Allen film in years, strong acting & writing
For once a Woods Allen film where he isn't the main character. True, he did not star in 1998's "Celebrity" either, but Kenneth Branaugh did do a Woody Allen impression for 113 minutes. This film was much less indulgent for Allen who only appears as the comic relief in a supporting role. Jason Biggs does a tremendous job in the leading role of the 'love blinded male' often found in Allen films, however, in this film he is likable and relatable to people who aren't neurotic. Ricci does a fantastic job in the role of the out-of-her-head girlfriend, and DeVito's acting as the desperate manager for Biggs is truly one of the best written and acted minor roles in quite some time. Jimmy Fallon's understated cameo exemplifies why this movie works so well while many of Allen's recent films haven't - less is more. This is a fun film to watch on your own or on a date.
