The Walking Dead: Some Guy (2017)
People are way too hard on this show.
Before you say this review didn't help you because it's a 10/10, hear me out. Ever since people became angered over the season 6 finale cliffhanger and the excess violence of the season 7 premiere, they haven't been able to give this show a chance again. Just because they made some bold decisions in recent seasons doesn't mean they need to be criticized for making great content in the current season. I see that people have already given this episode so many subpar reviews before even finishing it as it was already rated only 7.7 stars before the episode ended. A thousand bucks says this episode tonight would get at least a 9 star rating if it was released in season 6 or before. Anyways, this episode had it all. There was phenomenal drama, tons of badass action sequences, and lots of tragedy as well. They even brought back the opening flashback sequences they used to use perfectly in the very early seasons. To avoid spoiling the whole entire thing, I won't give a full out synopsis of absolutely all that takes place but I'll point out some of the best examples of why this was one of the best episodes we've had in a long time. For one thing, the action sequences are phenomenal. They aren't over the top and overly excessive either. They are perfectly scattered throughout (examples of action: Jerry fighting off zombies like a badass with his axe, Carol gunning down saviors to save the ammo, Rick and Daryl saving the ammo from the fleeting Savior truck). The episode also included a lot of tragedy. For one thing, almost everyone from Ezekiel's crew dying basically leaves several families without their loved ones back at the Kingdom. Also, Khari Payton does an amazing job displaying realistically agonized and terrified reactions to the deaths of all of his soldiers. He later is saved from a group of several walkers by Shiva who is then brutally killed, which is a tearjerking but perfect finish to her character as she saved Ezekiel's life just as he had saved hers at the start of the apocalypse when he was a zookeeper. Overall, the episode jolts us from the hopeful vibe emitted from the first three episodes of the season and reminds us that Negan and the saviors are still a humongous threat. This really shakes things up and personally has me a lot more excited and uncertain of what to expect in the near future. Expect more action and tragedy in ensuing episodes. And to those who are mindlessly giving fantastic episodes like this bad ratings before they are even finished, please stop. Give this show a chance again.
The Walking Dead: Hearts Still Beating (2016)
Awesome episode!! (SPOILER WARNING)
The Walking Dead really stepped up their game this episode. I personally didn't have too many problems with this season so far. For example, I actually enjoyed that Tara episode that got awful reviews and I only thought they could've done a bit better with episodes 4 and 5. I was cool with the slow development because I had a feeling the slow pace would pay off and lead us to some action-packed stuff. Here's where the action begins. The episode started pretty slowly but I liked how they caught up with all the small groups (Rick/Aaron, Carol/Morgan, Alexandria, Michonne, etc.) The beginning dinner sequence was pretty comical with Negan asking Carl to pass the rolls to lead us to credits. Anyways, one plot line was Daryl escaping with the help of Jesus. I thought they could've spent some more time on this but it was still satisfying to see Daryl get out and take down a Savior in the process too. I thought the Hilltop had enough scenes to make that story-line effective. Not too much time was spent there but there was some interesting dialogue between Maggie/Gregory and Sasha/Enid. Then we have Aaron and Rick in the lake. I thought this scene was done well and some may wonder why they switched boats midway through I'm pretty sure it was because the canoe they were in wasn't sturdy and was going to sink because it was old with bullet holes and so forth. Anyways the Aaron dialogue about staying alive in this world was well done and my hunch as to who the mysterious figure watching Rick and Aaron from afar was the owner of the boat. Rick even mentioned that the guy on the boat had everything but ammo so the guy who lives there was probably just scavenging for ammo and that's why he would follow Rick and Aaron back to Alexandria so he could get his stuff back. Anyways the last few small story lines follow Michonne and Carol/Morgan. The dialogues between Carol Morgan and Richard (Kingdom soldier) was a pretty compelling conversation. I like Richard and I feel like his character is going to do some big things next half of the season. He's trying to convince Morgan and Carol to fight and fighting the saviors will be a theme of the next half of the season. For now though Morgan and Carol don't agree with the interesting Kingdom soldier. Michonne on the road had some interesting sequences too. She got the Savior woman to bring her to Negan's base where Michonne realizes there's too many saviors for Alexandria to have a chance at the moment. So the sword-wielding ninja shoots the Savior and disposes of the car, returning to Alexandria later in the episode. OK so here's the main plot which is basically where all the crazy stuff goes down. The d-bag Spencer is trying to convince Negan to let him take over Alexandria, basically implying that Rick needs to be rid of. Negan is pretty annoyed that Spencer is bitching about Rick instead of going out there and gathering supplies for him while Rick is doing the dirty work even though he hates Negan. So he tells Spencer Ricks got guts for swallowing his hate and gathering for Negan and Spencer is basically asking Negan to kill Rick and do the dirty work for him so Negan declares Spencer has no guts and stabs him in the stomach, and Spencer's guts fall onto the floor. Rosita then shoots at Negan and hits Lucille, Negan's bat, instead. Negan is angry and realizes the bullet is made from scratch after closely examining it. He orders for one of the Saviors to kill someone after Rosita refuses to tell who actually made the bullet. A Savior shoots Olivia in the head and that's when Rick stumbles upon the situation in disgust. After Tara lies and says she made the bullet, Eugene confesses to his action and they take him away, probably to use him for making bullets back at their compound. After Negan leaves Rick offs a zombie Spencer with anger. Later Michonne has returned and talks to Rick about how they need to be on the same page about fighting and not giving up at the hands of Negan. Rick has finally turned the corner again into his old awesome self and agrees with the plan to fight Negan now. The end of the episode, which is one of the best scenes this season in my opinion, sees Rick Carl Michonne and others from Alexandria visit Maggie at the hilltop. Rick explains to Maggie that she was right all along about having to fight Negan and the Saviors. Then to cap it off Daryl and Jesus pop up, having made their way back to Hilltop off screen. Rick has an emotional hug with Daryl and the episode ends with the group in a hopeful mood and best of all, Rick gets his f*ckin gun back. Daryl snagged the Python from the Savior, Fat Joey, who he killed getting out earlier in the episode. This scene was epic and really caps off the half season perfectly. It's a nice surprise as we end 2016 on a pretty positive and uplifting note. And I've got a great feeling that 2017 is gonna be one bad ass half season. +Rick's back +Perfect pacing +3 deaths with some sick effects +High intensity and great acting +War is coming +Awesome ending reunion between the group and Daryl/Rick -None except maybe more on Daryl's escape but that didn't really bother me much Rate: 9.6/10
Fear the Walking Dead (2015)
Lots of potential
I don't see why everyone is giving this show so much hate. Yes, the show is somewhat boring at times, but I feel that it is building up and Season 2 should be much better than Season 1. I thought the Season 1 finale was by far the best episode of the season which is good because it keeps you wondering what will happen next season. There is a ship at the end of the season the characters will most likely board to try and get to some place of safety. This opens up so many possibilities and gives us chance to see what's going on in other parts of the world. Oh and they're filming Season 2 in Mexico right now so that will be interesting. All I can say is it's a good start to the show even if it's a little slow and the acting is pretty on par, and I would say the actor who plays as Nick is the best on the show and has done an amazing job. Also his character is the most interesting in my opinion. Also the main roles Travis and Madison have great actors portraying them as well. Some of the supporting roles don't have the greatest acting but the same can be said for some characters in the actual Walkng Dead. All I know is this show has lots of potential and I'm giving the first season a solid 8/10 especially because of the suspenseful finale and where it left us. Oh and one more thing that makes the show pretty good is how you know what's going on before they do so it kind of creates some suspense and like gets you into the show and wanting the characters to find out what's going on. Also I would say we will see a cameo from the original show sometime in the future. That would be awesome. Verdict: 8/10 stars.
The Walking Dead: Start to Finish (2015)
Walkers flood in through the now broken Alexandria wall in a suspenseful episode that kept me on the edge of my seat.
WARNING: SPOILERS- I really did think this was a good episode. The only problem for me was that the latest episodes seemed more slow and looking to build up to an epic mid season finale. Instead, the episode was extremely nerve wracking and tense and went by just like that, but it didn't deliver as well as I wished it had. Many things could've happened different and could've been fleshed out more like the Ron VS Carl incident and Carol VS Morgan battle. The wolf leaving with the doctor lady was kind of anticlimactic for me and only one death happening with Deanna and all was a bit surprising, though I did enjoy that Deanna storyline. Still, I feel like much more could've happened and the fact that Glenn showed like once and no RPGs were used and the return of Daryl's group didn't happen was a bummer in my opinion plus it was such a cliffhanger they left us at. I feel like I'm not giving it a super super high rating only because I was expecting so much more from this episode. I have a feeling the second half of the season is gonna be really good though. Don't get me wrong this first half was really good too I just was a little bummed out with the slight lack of action and closure on loose ends in this episode. Oh yeah and I almost forgot something. Ron's an asshole. Verdict: 8.3/10
Tarantula (1955)
This is a classic sci-fi horror monster flick from the 50's about a giant tarantula that terrorizes a rural desert community.
One of my favorite classic sci-fi horror flicks of all time. My dad and I have watched it probably about 200 times. The somewhat cheesy acting of John agar combined with the more serious tone of Leo g Carroll makes for an awesome satisfying blend. The characters and the plot in itself make for a great watch as a scientist (Carroll) named professor Deemer is using some kind of serum to grow animals in his lab that have grown well above their usual size and grow at a faster pace. Of course the tarantula is injected with this and escapes as one of Deemer's students who injected himself with it for some reason and is totally mutated fights with Deemer and knocks him out and injects him with the serum then dies. Deemerwakes up and slowly becomes mutated throughout the flick. Of course there is also a love interest between a woman who is staying at Deemer's lab as a student (Corday) and the main hero (Agar) who ends up saving her from the tarantula who kills Deemer towards the end by knocking down his house. Many random deaths ensue as the spider wreaks havoc until finally the Air Force comes in and destroys the monster after several attempts including sticks of dynamite are used to try and kill the monster. One aspect of the movie that makes all the more better is that the seemingly evil professor actually is a tragic character who didn't mean for his colleagues to suffer from the serum and didn't want all of this to happen and just wanted to increase growth of animals and food. Overall the plot and acting is great for a movie of this type/genre and of this decade of horror movies and goes down as one of my favorites and one that I would recommend for any people who love classic horror/sci-fi flicks and are looking for an entertaining watch.
