World on Fire (2019)
Not traditional war movie. Far more interesting
How do ordinary people cope with life when their world is being blown apart by forces they have no say in, war and nazis. A fascinating look at a variety of people and lives across Europe - Poland, England, Paris, Berlin, Atlantic - mostly just trying to survive the horrors.
Some other reviewers seemed to think they were going to get a war documentary, and marked it down for the dramatic licence taken with some historical details. Or expected if to feature only brave white males, as though the "others" don't even exist in wars. If that's what you want in a movie, this isn't for you.
But for those who want an interestingly different take on WW2, this is very engaging, with high production values.
The Hunting (2019)
So uncomfortable, but so "necessary"
Wow, such an uncomfortable topic. You can see the damage that will come. And it keeps coming. And the injustices.
But so well told, beautifully acted by the young cast.
And, I'm no film critic, but the whole production, the atmosphere was excellent.
Zwartboek (2006)
Just so chilling.
When war comes, how do you know who are your real enemies and your real friends. Knowing is more than life or death.
