Dinner with the Parents (2024)
Disappointed!
I'm an Anglophile and I love British TV. One of my favorite shows is the UK gem, Friday Night Dinner, which this show is supposedly based on. When I heard about this show, I was truly excited to see it. Let me just say now, after watching it, that excitement is now totally gone. It's really disappointing when an American version of a show, completely misses the nuance of the original UK versions. Not sure why TV producers and writers don't realize what it really is about the UK show that they enjoyed so much, that they wanted to remake the show in the first place. Maybe they should just shelve the idea for this show.
Finch (2021)
My New Favorite Movie
My new favorite movie!!! Granted, a heavy theme, but fantastic acting by Tom Hanks. And you can't but help loving Jeff. I did keep thinking through the movie, how the role of Jeff would have been perfect for the late Robin Williams, though. Will definitely watch this many times.
Gentleman's Agreement (1947)
Short and to the Point
I'll make this review short and to the point. I'm 55 and I've watched this movie for the first time. All I can say is it really opened my eyes. I'm not Jewish, but this quote from the movie really makes a lot of sense and can be used today for any race, religion, or sexual orientation. Professor Fred Lieberman: "Millions of people nowadays are religious only in the vaguest sense. I've often wondered why the Jews among them still go on calling themselves Jews...Because the world still makes it an advantage not to be one. Thus it becomes a matter of pride to go on calling ourselves Jews." I would highly recommend this movie.
Lost Sitcoms (2016)
Be Prepared to Laugh
This was one of the greatest and funniest things I've seen in a long, long while. I laughed my butt off!
The Repair Shop (2017)
This Show is Amazing!
Ran across this series quite by accident (thanks to Netflix), and I was completely sucked in within the first 10 minutes. These artisans are simply amazing, the way they repair heirlooms so perfectly. If God had had their help, He would only have needed 5 days to create the universe. Bravo!
Cloverfield (2008)
Meh
The first 20 minutes was excruciating to get through. And the Blair Witch shaky camera only took away from the film..
Downhill (2020)
What Did I Just Watch?
I'm not even sure what happened during that hour and 20 minutes... Despite the big names and talent, this is a total waste of time and film.
