The Block Island Sound (2020)
Take notice and learn how its done!
This is one of the best horro genre movies of late. Gripping, with enough mystery, great acting, suspence and semi-revealed ending.
Keeps on your toes and with a magnificent ending. Well done.
The Power of the Dog (2021)
Booooring!
I guess its a subtle art to make a 2h movie where nothing happens.
This is movie about cowboys, suppressed homosexuality, ahcoholism, murder and phsycopath killer. It has amazing actors in it so it was true challenge to make it so boring.
Doctor Who: Flux: Chapter Five - Survivors of the Flux (2021)
Welcome back Doctor!
I have been lately very disapointed with doctor, the script since Jodie took over was not up to the standard. The show has become so bad I even considered dropping it, but this season has really managed to surprise me.
Yes this is a little bit different then what The Doctor used to be and they did a major expansion of the universe but you have to do something when the show has been running for so long.
I love the continues plot instead of the single episodes, love the new storytelling, love that the show has become a lot more secretive and you dont completely understand whats going on.
So overall well done and once again I love watching the show and expect new episodes with thrill. A am also very curious where they will take things now, although they must be very carefull not loose originality of the character and with such major changes to keep the show close to what fans like.
Good job and Good luck!
Castlevania (2017)
The Best
Another one bites the dust. A great show, great characters, their development, writing and everything. So sad it was cancelled.
Mulan (2020)
Wrong in every way
I had such high hopes for this movie. I knew it could not come close to the original but still. However this was just the worst way they could have gone.
1. Story - when I heard they decided to take Mushu out of the picture I thought they were going on a more realistic path maybe this adaptation would be close to the actual legend, but if yotu take Mushu out so that it is more realistic than don't add a witch and not the cool kind of witch but the kind that turns into birds with terrible special effects.
2. Special effects - horrible, not good at all, it looked like old chinese movies.
3. Feminism - I get the subtle massage in the movies, when alongside a good script and great story they put in some inspirational thought, however this one was not executed well at all. When you have a strong well established female protagonist in the story, maybe don't force another female antagonist with the lamest story of all and the lamest ending. The character of the witch was just not needed.
4. Action - boring, almost unwatchable, all the best moments taken out.
Few good things:
1. The line "I am blessed with two daughters"
2. scenery, the wide shots were amazing
3. Soundtrack, new version is cool
That's it.
My advice, watch the trailer its quite good, listen to the music sound amazing, keep up the hipe, don't ruin the nostalgia.
The Personal History of David Copperfield (2019)
What the hell was that!!!
Classic story, one of the best casts any movie has ever had, but one of the worst movies I have ever seen.
First of all the casting doesn't make any sense at all. I understand involving diversity even at the cost of throwing out historic accuracy but this just didn't make any sense at all and was weird and confusing on top of which it destroyed the point they were trying to make.
The story was if you could believe it uninteresting, the presentation in the form of weird effects did not work at all.
The only positive thing I could say was the acting since it had amazing people in it but that all got lost in the horrible movie itself.
When will they learn if you are making a movie just keep some resemblance of logic and don't try to jam every modern active issue into it, this never works.
Wounds (2019)
Nothing
If someone will explain what this was supposed to be I vow to give them 10 good horror films that are worth watching.
3 stars for tricking me into watching this.
Watchmen (2019)
This is how you do it!!!
Now I will say from the beginning I never read the comics so I am not sure how accurate this is. My only knowledge of the watchmen is from the movie which to be fare was not the best.
However this show has great writing, riveting story, great acting, enough twists to make it interesting and above all else twists you didn't see coming.
One more thing I loved...too many movies nowadays try to give a political massage but they fail because they get lost in the massage itself and forget to care about the story. Not this one, this is how you do it..deliver a powerful massage hidden behind an interesting story.
Also the cinematography behind this was amazing, images and scenes are shot perfectly, soundtracks are great, its not too stretched, characters are interesting and it has just enough mysterious vibe to it.
So yea, highly recommended, watch it and enjoy. I hope it will not be ruined in the future seasons.
The Hunt (2020)
Careful!!!
I think this film intended to have a great massage. and it could it really could, but it didn't deliver.
Plot: some liberals are chatting, one of them is hacked, it appears they joked in the group chat about killing the non-liberal people, it leaks, of course some people pick it up and start ranting on the internet (as usual), the liberals get fired because of it, they are angry, so they actually kidnap those people and start hunting them. Everybody dies except of one person who was not even supposed to be there, she got kidnapped by mistake.
The idea is great, this could have been a great, great film with a powerful massage. BUT!!!
When you are making a movie like this the important part is to try not to oversell it. The difference between this people as sooooooo overly obvious, I mean to give an example they where making sure that one of the people they killed was African american to ensure diversity and while dragging the bloody corps through the floor they were discussing women's rights, on the other side one person was posting photos with killed animals, another had a conservative podcast ranting conspiracies.
COME ON GUYS! this could have been great, but when the hidden massage isn't really hidden, when the characters are so fucking obvious, when there is nooo character development whatsoever, the plot has too many holes, actors even though good ones are not really acting.
So no I did not like the film, but please someone take this idea and turn into a good film or even a TV Show. This has the potential of being great!
Vivarium (2019)
Great Concept, Good Execution, No Stroy!
So I will say right now this is the movie you watch for the execution itself. Acting, Metaphors, Ideas and the view. You will not be satisfied with the ending, you will not get what they wanted to tell you overall, you will like it while you are watching but when its over you will feel like you've wasted your time.
The story begins but an ordinary couple trying to find a new home, they go to this weird salesman who takes them to the suburbs where every house is similar and just leaves them there. In the vast space and lots of houses they seem to be the only people living, they also get a child of sorts in a box and are asked to raise it. In the end they both die. That's it.
However I did like the movie while I was watching it, it was very nicely done and I expected to get answers in the end which I really was curious about but you do not get any answers:
1. Who was the girl who advised them to get this house?
2. Who are the things that created this place?
3. What is this child?
4. What was the point of this?
Aliens, robots, AI we never learn.
I thing somebody just wrote a script about two people confined in a space forced to raise a child, but didn't have the ending, couldn't figure it out and still went with it.
Overall, the movie is worth watching!
El hoyo (2019)
One of the best modern films!
Its a well crafted allegory, great concept and decent acting. I will not spoil, since I think films like this one should be watched and interpreted on you own accords.
However, I will say that since the trailer I have been waiting for this film and it didn't disappoint. Watch it, think about it and try to take this idea for the everyday life.
The only reason why it has a 9 and not a ten is because I thought at times the film's run-time was a little stretched.
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
Loved it
Yes I know I was not around when the original films came out and since I am not the ORIGINAL fan I don't know any better and have no right to have an opinion, but I loved this film.
First I take into account the fact that its impossible to come up with something as original as the original films, however unlike popular opinion I do not think they should stop making films in this universe because of it.
Agreed several terrible choices in the film:
1. Palpatine is alive - it diminished Anakin's sacrifice
2. Rey is Palpatine's grand daughter - just absurd
3. Rey's and Ben's healing powers - not really in line with how the force works
But the first one sort of could make sense since it has been outlined in the prequels that Sith have such powers, the third one's thought process could have been that Rey and Ben both have a touch of dark side so...
Now what I loved ... all these maybe because I have never had any expectation for these movies to have the originality and depth of the original trilogy, but still:
1. Fight scenes - the whole film is set almost entirely of the fight scenes of some kind which was really cool
2. Parallels to the other films - several times in these film we have seen some kind of scene that has reminded me of the old films
3. The final battle - this film has outlined very strongly that the Sith are over, the balance has been brought, so it was a nice ending to what has started in the original films.
In this sense, for me this trilogy and the last film itself was kind of a small shot of Star Wars to make me remember that adrenaline once more. Not an in depth Star Wars movie but still great to watch.
I had fun, I enjoyed and that's all I had expected so I am satisfied. Surely this will not remain a classic as the original films did and the attempt to create new Leia, Luke and Han in Rey, Fin and Poe will not work, but enjoyed this and will watch if they make another one as long there are light-sabers and that soundtrack.
Oh, and one last thing I was worried about since it had to be done for obvious reasons I think it was a perfect way for Leia's ending to happen for connecting to her son and saving a new hope of the galaxy.
La influencia (2019)
Not even a single good thing
Okay you know how you watch a film that's really bad but at least you get a few good moments out of it, or anything you enjoy.
Well this movie doesn't have that. I think they just put all the cliche things of horror movies into this one movie and the result is none scary, boring film with no plot. Even actors were bad.
Short description of the movie so you don't waste your time. A family moves back to the wife's childhood home because she has to take care of her mother with her sister since she is in a coma. It appears she was a witch, which they knew, for a fact so there should not have been any confusion. Even if she was not a witch it appears she used to cut her children, take out there teeth and cut of a finger of her nephew. Why was this woman even aloud out of the asylum or jail? no clue. She was not send to the hospital cos of her will but why did her daughters take care of her is unclear either. the movie goes on to scare us with things like lights going out, someone standing behind a glass and etc. half the movie is so dark you cant even see anything.
And finally a totally boring movie tries to end with so many things happening in the end at once you can't even keep up.
Dont watch it really.
The Dead Don't Die (2019)
This must be a hoax
So the cast: Bill Murray, Adam Driver, Tilda Swinton, Danny Glover and etc. Basically an all star cast so I thought this movie was a no-brainer, but I have never seen a more boring, uneventful, absolutely foolish film.
I actually have no idea why these people agreed to star in it. The only smile I cracked through the whole thing was at the very end when Bill Murray says he hasn't read the script because I thought nobody had and that was the reason why they agreed to participate.
The biggest regret is it should have worked, the movie has everything good director, an all star amazing cast, environmental massage, zombies, breaking of the fourth wall, its supposed to be a comedy... but everything was done horribly wrong. I refuse to acknowledge the movie had any satirical value cos it just didn't.
Now the story:
It all starts with the information that because of some commercial work by the energy companies in the arctic circle the earth's rotation has changed and because of it daylight is longer which for some reason leads to zombies. what???
We are watching events in the small town where two policeman just walk around extremely slowly, talk extremely slowly and act even slower.
You cannot even enjoy the twists in the movie because nobody and I mean nobody in the movie is affected by anything
I think it took lots and lots of work from the director to make these great actors act so badly. Well done!!! :D
Simply put don't waste your time, this movie is literally nothing, I honestly believe all these people just laughed at us and made up a hoax that they made a movie!!!
Horrible script, Horrible acting, Stupid ending, Not a single interesting or funny moment whatsoever. Just not worth the time spent!
The Canyons (2013)
It's Crap
Okay. I haven't seen a movie this horrible for a long time now. The plot is stupid and trivial, the ending is kind of idiotic and if you will be able to watch it without rewinding you deserve some sort of a medal. But the worst part about the movie was how horrible the actors were. I mean I couldn't find one single actor who was good in that movie. I really think James Deen should go back to porn and take the whole cast with him. And about Lindsey Lohan I don't know what she did to herself but she looked like a mummy in this movie. First of all she didn't do well as an actress but I think her plastic surgeries went really wrong. One of her eye was always shutting down, her eyebrows were always on a wrong place and moving really strangely and she looked terrible. So, horrible plot, horrible acting, I guess the conclusion is the movie is just HORRIBLE! Don't watch it if you value your time!
