Really? Howard Hawks?
4 May 2022
Howard Hawks has blessed us with many great films, ... this is surely not one of them. A plethora of bad acting, simplistic story line, cartoonish-type evil and a visual mess. The night scenes were lit brighter than the day scenes. Howard, I thought I knew ya.

Theme song

I'd love to see reruns of this show if nothing more than to hear "Illegal Smile", the theme song written and sang by the late great John Prine. Having my favorite character actor and my favorite song writer together somehow seems mighty fitting.

Gunsmoke: The River: Part 2 (1972)
Season 18, Episode 2

My, I do love Gunsmoke.

I've seen close to every Gunsmoke made from 55' to 75', both at the time they were released and through reruns. Yes I'm an old sucker.

This particular episode contains 3 out of 4 of the all time great character actors of all time. Namely, Jack Elam, Slim Pickens and Miriam Colon. Had Anthony Zerbre been there I could have died and went to wherever I'm headed.

This tongue-in-cheek, two part production had so much to offer; comedy, drama, excellent acting and more.......comedy.

Jack Elam as a Frenchie?......Too much! Slim Pickens as one evil character?.....Not a chance
