Red Dwarf: Back to Earth (Part One) (2009)
They Shouldn't Have Bothered
I've been a Red Dwarf fan since I watched the very first episode on the BBC all those years ago. I even liked the later series, even if they weren't quite so good.
I was really looking forward to these three new episodes thanks to Dave, but I expecting to be disappointed. Unfortunately, I was. It would have been best if they'd not made them.
The problem for me is that I just didn't find them funny. It seems the Sci-Fi elements of here came first and the comedy second, this never used to be the case. Also, no Norman Lovett, he was always great.
Sorry guys, what a missed opportunity. Perhaps some things are best left alone.
The Strangers (2008)
A Very Short Film That Seems To Last Forever
At 75 minutes you'd have thought it would be pretty impossible to get bored. Wrong, it was the longest 75 minutes of my life.
Takes 20 minutes before anything remotely scary or even creepy happens then it follows the form book to fit in just about every horror film cliché. Could it have been any more predictable.
Liv Tyler must be desperate for film roles to take on this, did she even read the script (was there even one).
They have tried to leave it open for a sequel, please don't bother.
A totally pointless film, don't waste your time and money on it.
Rubbish.
Station X (1999)
Fascinating, one of the best documentaries made
This film tells the often neglected story of the amazing people of Bletchley Park who snipped a few years off WW2 and undoubtedly saved many thousands of lives in the process. If that's not a story worth telling I don't know what is.
This is the standard by which factual documentaries should be set.
I sat fascinated by each scene. This story went untold for too long.
I have recently been to Bletchley Park and would recommend a visit to anyone with an interest in Code Breaking or WW2 or computing in general. As Bletchley is the home of the very first programmable computer ever made. There are many volunteers who give their own time to keep this important piece of history alive and I commend them for all their effort. Please go and support them.
Apart from the technical details, given in detail and in lay mans terms, it is a very human story telling how many different types of people, and Americans worked together to a very important ends.
It also tells the tragic tale of Alan Turin, possibly the greatest mathematician of the 20th Century.
If you have the patience and intelligence to appreciate then you will be rewarded.
I hope a DVD version is soon released.
Office Space (1999)
"You've been missing a lot of work lately..." "Well I wouldn't say I was missing it...."
Without a doubt one of the funniest movies I have ever seen.
I was laughing out loud right from the very start.
I think anyone who has ever worked in an office should be made to see this movie and especially their bosses.
All the characters are very funny, the situations are very funny. The dialogue is very funny.
I love the scene where they take a printer into a field and bash the hell out of it.
If you don't find this movie hilarious then you probably liked Lost In Translation and more than likely didn't get any cake...
Lost in Translation (2003)
Watched Three Quaters Then Gave Up
I was really looking forward to seeing this movie, I love Bill Murray and the movie was marketed as a comedy so I was ready to have my sides split.
So, I'm sire it comes as no surprise to anyone that to say I was just a little bit disappointed is an understatement.
Arty shots of a city do not make a great film, let alone a film at all.
Would other reviewers here call 2001 a comedy? I would think not, so why this film? I was watching this with my girlfriend and she said after about an hour to forward to see if something interesting happens. It didn't. I was hoping they all died at the end.
I can see high scores for this film and the only reason I can think of is that people like to be miserable. I however don't.
Please Bill do some real comedy for us and don't sell out to drama in the same way Tom Hanks has.
One out of Ten (I've seen much more interesting student movies)
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
Over rated
The acting is adequate, the story is adequate, but why all the fuss?
It sometimes baffles me why some movies get such high ratings when they are really only run of the mill.
This is not that bad a film, just seen it all before.
