Uncharted (2022)
Disappointing
As a fan of the Uncharted series, I was excited to see this. Sadly, it was a just sub-par action film. The atrocious casting overall and particularly for beloved Sully, changing the story details from the games for no good reason, zero chemistry between the leads, lacklustre action and poorly written script with dialogue leads to a terribly disappointing experience. In my opinion, the games themselves, particularly the Uncharted 4 (A Thief's End) offer a far more superior cinematic experience than this lame movie thar did not need to be made, jusa like the equally awful Assassin's Creed movie.
Succession (2018)
Brilliant show
Brilliantly made absurdist tragicomedy, top notch acting from every single person in the perfectly-cast ensemble, relevant and insightful dialogue which makes you examine your biases and late capitalism; the show progressively gets better each season with the third season being the best so far! 👍
Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui (2021)
Transphobic
Wow a cisgender male Punjabi munda "accepts" a "trans girl". Let's give him a medal. Extremely problematic and normalising abuse by cisgender males towards transgender women. Also casting a cisgender woman to play the role of a transwomen? Bollywood do better. To be fair, even a inanimate mannequin might have been able to evoke more expression on its face than the extreme botox afflicted Vani Kapoor. Transwomen are not "mistakes" and deserve the same respect and rights as cisgender persons.
Tomb Raider (2018)
Awful
Really bizarre casting for the role of Lara Croft which was a massive downgrade from Angelina Jolie to the bland, blank faced, waif-like Alicia Vikander combined with a tedious story, horrible direction, crappy action sequences ... Avoid this movie if you can.
The White Lotus (2021)
Must watch
Gave it a perfect 10 since I couldn't find anything to fault it on. Very interesting show filled with fascinating, multilayered characters that were perfectly cast, and simultaneously both entertaining and thought-provoking with cutting social commentary which is never 'preachy'. Highly recommended.
Tales from the Loop (2020)
Very interesting watch
Though provoking and poignant anthology episodes showing how people's lives are intertwined and the ripple effect that one's choices may have on others, without knowing. The cinematography in the show captures the exquisite beauty in the ordinary.
Masters of the Universe: Revelation (2021)
Watch it and judge for yourself!
Strong characters, great voice acting, and solid animation keeping true to the original. All in all an excellent remake. On a side-note, it's hilarious to read all the cry-babies reviewing this!
Haseen Dillruba (2021)
Sorely disappointed
Had high expectations for a movie with Tapsee Pannu and Vikrant Massey and to be fair the acting wasn't half bad. However, the script is unconvincing, uneven in tone and worst of all romantacizes domestic violence and toxic, abusive relationships - Vikrant Massey's psychopathic character attempts / threatens to kill or cause grievous bodily harm to his wife (Tapsee's character) on 3 different occasions and she chooses to stay with him, chalking down his murderous attempts as 'love'.
Cruella (2021)
Highly entertaining - made me yearn for a Devil Wears Prada with Emma Thompson and Emma Stone!
Watch it for the brilliant and fabulous Emma Thompson and perfectly cast Emma Stone (who, imho, shines best in comedies). It is fast paced, has a great audio track throughout and passes the Bechdel test with flying colours! It kept me engaged till the very end. Reminded of the best movies from yesteryears without the preachy, infantalising elements.
The Family Man (2019)
Caricaturish drivel
Absurd, nonsensical plotlines, highly offensive brown-face given to actors, bigoted one-dimensional characterisation of antogonists (who just happen to be muslim, south-indian and/ female) deviod of any depth, understanding or nuance and shoving down the audience's throat the single-minded casteist agenda of selling the upper class north Indian hindu male as the ultimate saviour - are just some of the elements making up this utter trash.
Green Book (2018)
Worst Oscar 'Best Picture' winner since Crash!
Average film that is contrived and riddled with cringe-inducing clichés and stereotypes. An unauthentic movie that attempts to whitewash the topic of racism and the experiences of those who endured it to make it more palatable. Though I suppose such filmmaking shouldn't come as a suprise from the director of drivel such as the 2007 remake of 'The Heartbreak Kid' and Hall Pass and who's idea of "a joke" was to repeatedly flash people on his film sets.
