Monkey Man (2024)

Such good action, solid story and keeps you in it
4 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Got a sneak review just two hours ago and this movie was good. Dev put his bones to work on the action and the story which has themes of revenge, PTSD and power of needing those who broke your soul to pay. There were a few scenes I wish had subtitles simply because the character spoke low and I have a bit of a hearing issue. The power that "Bobby" felt to lay vengeance over what was done in his past shows someone who will not rest until blood is spilled. It is clearly a feeling which has broken something inside him and there can only be one way to find his peace. No spoilers but I had a feeling on how the path would go and the conclusion left a bit of a question but it was still good. Strong action scenes with some brutal taking out of the bad guys but Dev's Bobby also took a lot of bumps along the way. Hope to see more from this young director in the future.

Enjoyable fun time
9 March 2024
Watched it just now and it was enjoyable with some good fight scenes and good visuals. Elonie has a heck of a time rescuing herself from this vengeful dragon which has a good reason for its ways. The dragon was pretty fearful and liked taunting Elonie as she's being hunted. When the truth slowly draws forward, this story takes the sharp turn and it makes you understand the whys for the dragon and the story. So great to see Angela Bassett and Robin Wright playing such interesting characters. Bobbi shows some good moments of pain, battling and coming to understand what the whole deal is and then going from a damsel to a bad ass warrior.

Wham! (2023)

It's lovely to hear them both talk about Wham!
6 July 2023
After a long day at work I needed something to watch and this came up since I had added it to my list.

It was nice to listen to George and Andrew go through the beginning of their friendship to the inspiration and growth of their music careers. You could see the ache Yog had for becoming that artist he always wished to be. These two young men had such an incredible experience and near the end when you could feel George becoming the solo star he was meant to be, it became a bit heartbreaking but you could see that was necessary. George was a powerhouse and yet he began a quiet, gentle soul. Made me teary at the end but truly enjoyed it.

Sneak peek tonight - quite good
19 April 2023
When I first saw the commercial, I was intrigued to watch this movie. One of my friend won a preview today at 7:30p, which was pretty packed with folks. The movie is quite good, made me teary and there were moments which really made one admire how it must have been for a talented young man who lived during such difficult times. Though I am glad I managed a sneak preview, I would definitely suggest buying a ticket, sitting back and listening to the lovely music played. While I do enjoy some classical music, learning of Joseph's life and his musical talent needs to have more focus on it and hopefully this movie can help bring that to light.

Very good
24 December 2022
Such a good movie with a cast of characters which just shine. The twists and turns are well written and Daniel Craig playing that accent is fabulous. The mystery was tight but there was one scene which I caught that pulled the wool from my eyes. If you are in the theatre, you might not catch it, but I was paying attention and spotted it which led me to the correct conclusion, but that pivot was great. It truly was woven in nicely and makes you reconsider so much. Think I read that a third film written by Rian Johnson and acted by Daniel Craig in the same vein as these past two is in the works and it makes me excited.

Learned something new and got to appreciate their friendship
26 July 2022
I have never seen a Kabuki before and now I see how early storytelling happened in Japan. Seeing the friendship between Toma Ikuta and Matsuya Onoe was really cool as well. They have that level of companionship which comes after many years of knowing each other almost to the point of brotherhood. I am now actually watching the actual Kabuki which is also featured on Netflix so I am happy to view it as an audience member rather than the snippets of the behind the scenes this provided.

This episode is a total mind warp

Wow. So much going on. Funny moments, mind bending scenes, pieces that make you wonder what the heck is going on and then those last two minutes which had me cracking up like a crazy woman. Loved this episode.

Made me cry more than once
18 December 2021
After so much anticipation and fear of it being spoiled, I finally got my viewing of the latest movie.

So much happened and the way the story flowed was great. Lots of action, good emotional moments and that ending.

Knowing there will be three more coming from Sony is exciting to see where the adventure goes next.

Eternals (2021)

Weaving a new story into MCU future
6 November 2021
I did not grow up reading Eternals so all that I have learned has been via looking them up online. Putting a new phase into an established MCU timeline is not easy yet this movie did quite a lot with the 2.5 hours we are given. New characters are introduced, fresh stories are put out there and the fans have something new to delve into.

I enjoyed this movie and the direction we are now going. It is building new paths, giving us new adventures with amazing scenarios, stories and conflicts.

Well done, gritty and makes you learn something
14 October 2021
Got to see an early screening and it was one of those movies that makes you learn some nasty things about human nature. Medieval times were not kind to women, or I should say, life is not kind to many women, then and now. Back in that time, we were thought of as property and some folks don't realize this.

The story takes three voices: the two male and one female involved and it shows you the twist of how the truth is distorted by whom is telling the tale. The battle scenes are brutal and realistic in showing the nasty side of wars; the actors all gave great performances and the details to the scenery and costumes is wonderful.

Shang-Chi brings on the action, heart and excitement
3 September 2021
What a fun ride with some emotionally touching scenes. Tony Leung Chiu-wai worked hard at making his character a different kind of villain who is not stereotypical and the way he loses connection and wallows in grief is deep. You can see what is causing him to act as he does.

Simu Liu carries this movie alongside Tony Leung and it's got a lot of father/son conflict which is touching to see on screen.

The fight scenes are really good, the action is top notch and I liked the friendship running along in the story. Stay for the two end scenes which tease so much!

Wow!
24 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I woke up this morning and bounced out of bed to turn on the TV, working while watching this episode.

So many emotional moments and I teared up twice. When Isiah is shaking while hugging Sam, Sam's speech at the end and when the last title reads Captain America and the Winter Soldier *sob* Loved this series!

Wonderful end to the saga
20 December 2019
I remember being in line for the original Star Wars and truly enjoying it. There were several misses and lots of hits from then on. This final chapter to the Skywalker saga was quite well made. There were plots resolved, characters we've seen develop finally meeting their destiny and the goodbye to some favorite heroes and villains. It's got lots of action, good scenes and some which made me tear up from so much sadness but I have enjoyed the ride and am grateful for these last three movies.

This is how it's done
16 September 2019
Oh yes, thank you to Netflix for putting down the money and to the Henson company for picking up the same dream Jim had and creating the prequel of the Dark Crystal exactly like the original. The magic of the puppetry is just as fascinating today as it was in the original but now some CGI is thrown in an makes it just sparkle. Can't wait for the second season!

Bleak, gritty but good fun
2 September 2019
What a bleak and gritty world this series deals. It's very realistic in it portrays fear of the unknown and those who are different. This first one was well written with twists and turns to keep you on your toes. Wikipedia states Amazon has okay'ed a second season. Let's see what the next one brings!

The Lion King (2019)

Good movie, it's hard to live up to a classic animated movie
20 July 2019
Oh how far the CGI has come. There are some scenes which you expect David Attenborough's narration to come through, "Here in the deepest part of..." The CGI is really spectacular on many of the eyes of the characters for example on Rafiki's baboon close up's those eyes are so detailed and expressive it was just incredible to see. Some of the lion's expressions were less so which was a bit of a let down. Felt as if they could have gone a bit more facially cognizant to present more feeling. Once again, Pumbaa and Timon do some great scenes and just make you crack a smile. Glover was great, Beyonce did a good job but hearing James Earl Jones once more as Mufasa is the true deal. There was a bit cheer in the beginning of the movie and another one at the end so the folks enjoyed it (yes, there were some crying children in between scenes but it's a Disney movie).

And so the XMen ends it's run... until they return again
8 June 2019
I really enjoy the casting of this batch of XMen characters with them really hitting the nail on the head with all of them. Just wish they had been given more solid stories to work with. This movie missed several really good spots to shine on.. explain more of what the Phoenix force is, the alien invasion angle was a bit meh.

Solid movie
27 April 2019
No spoilers. I have watched every movie in the MCU and Avengers:Endgame is such a great movie to top off all these characters fighting for Earth and the universe. The Russo's have made a solid story, merged so many tales and lives and brought these characters from the pages of a comic book into breathing, feeling life. Thank you for such a great culmination of so many twists and turns.

Very good movie and great tie ins
9 March 2019
Went in super excited and came out even hungrier for the final chapter of this story. Carol Danvers story is really well put together and how she is shown growing into her powers and her abilities is good. The battle with the Skrulls and Kree throws some interesting jabs at you and how it all comes together is cool. My only grievance is how that big battle scene is a bit dark per the environment it was in but I would have enjoyed it a bit lighter to see more of the scenes.

Holy yes!
24 December 2018
This movie was such a great bundle of fun, it's colorful, crazy active and so funny. It moves like a living comic book at times with so much action and laughs thrown in. Loved how the story flowed, the characters all had great personalities and the build to the climax will keep you on the edge. Can't wait to own this one.

Wonderfully fun and satisfyingly crafted
24 October 2018
It's two seasons of fun, laughing, learning, caring for the characters and getting tangled up in trying to figure out how this will all end. The jokes were really well written, making me crackle sometimes with enough life lessons thrown in which made it also a heartwarming show. You really do learn to care about Koro-Sensei and his students who are trying to kill him but are gaining life lessons I wish all kids could get from a good teacher. There are twisted along the way which keep you wanting to get the next episode going.

Quirky, funny and good for the new season
9 October 2018
I've watched Dr Who sporadically throughout time, truly enjoying some versions of the character than others. Truly enjoyed this episode, the introduction and the quick pacing of the show. Am excited to see Jodie in the character and think she did an awesome job!

This fabulous, wonderful, uplifting show.. ugh, I can't even!
18 September 2018
I adored the first run of QE with the original crew but this new team is truly majestic. Now, at first Jonathan was a bit much with the overt femininity he presented with but I saw his realness and true self and he has won me over. I have not known many gay men who are at that level and I blame that for the initial hesitance. Now after several episodes and listening to his podcast (Getting curious) I see and understand his side of life. Antoni is a bunch of hot cuteness but he is pulls his worth in the kitchen, helping out the ones spice up their life (yes, intended pun LOL). Bobby has such good taste in how he sets up the interiors of places and I have yet to dislike any of the rebuilds, want to buy all his stuff. Tan breaks out a sassy English/Pakistani representation and scrapes the clouds with his never wilted pompadour cut, his style is as sharp as his intelligence. Karamo is a gift, yes, he's sexy but what's even better... he's smart, compassionate and throwing down the psychotherapist realness in the talks with folks, teaching without making anyone feel down. May this show be on for many seasons... there are lots of folks out there that need a touch of wonderful and caring in their lives and QE brings it!

So much potential.. but they didn't follow through
11 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I recall seeing this episode when it first came on tv and, with bated breathe, I was hopeful that STV would go down a path with Janeway and Chakotay's characters: have the gumption to do a strong romantic connection build between them and see what developed down the line. Some of the story lines could have been done so much better. I personally didn't like Jeri Ryan's character because they too easily went down the path of bringing in the statuesque eye candy blonde when they could have focused on working Janeway's battle between work and love, like so many real strong career women do.... and figured a way to show how it worked.. while continuing to build character development and threading it all together.

Funny and silly, a bit long but still not too bad
5 August 2018
So the friendship pairing of Mila and Kate was good. They held their own and had good comedic and gal pal emotional moments which is something I enjoy watching in movies. Sam was quite good too and it pleased me to see him acting in this movie, pretty good fighting moments here and there. There was a time the movie felt a tad bit long but they had a decent amount of action, comedy and twists so it kept you in the movie.
