Mean Streets (1973)
Mean Italian Streets of NYC
Breakthrough film for Scorsese, DeNiro, and Keitel is gritty urban slice of life. Keitel is a guilt-racked petty racketeer trying to protect crazy, reckless friend DeNiro from loansharks. Film has edgy nervous energy, great acting, and terrific use of pop music, all the trademarks of a Scorsese flick. Rated R.

Terry Noonan returns to Manhattan's Hell's Kitchen as a NYPD narc to bring down some good friends gone bad, more specific a grimy Irish-American street gang led by Ed Harris and Gary Oldman. Explosive performances, excellent musical score, and superb location photography make this a winner. Rated R for violence, profanity, and nudity.
