Plain terrible

Whenever i see a movie like this, i realize that making a good movie is a real art, and that real art is quite rare. In this case, to say that it is not a good movie, is an understatement. Let's be honest, it is a bad movie, and it is actually plain terrible. The only nice thing to watch in it is the beautiful Montana landscape, but there are better options for that.

What struck me most is the very low quality acting, very unnatural and forced. This is parly due to the bad script, and partly due to the bad acting. The storyline is really simple and superficial too, which does not necessarily have to be a problem, but in this movie we are left with a very uninspired and unbelievable end product, that is embarrassing to watch.

Lockout (2012)

Great movie. Exciting and full of humor.

This movie was a joy to watch. An exciting story, full of action, humor and great acting. The visuals are stunning and there was never a dull moment. Guy Pearce is the perfect choice for the main hero and he gave a first class performance. Maggie Grace also did a great job as the female captive of a bunch of deranged escaped criminals on a space station. A perfect setting for a perfect action movie. I highly recommend it.

Asher (II) (2018)

Just Perfect

Good movies are rare, but "Asher" (2018) is definitely one of them. A simple but entertaining story, beautifully put together and with great actors who give their very best. Everything is just perfect and the low rating is absolutely unjustified. The script is great, the camera work is great and Ron Perlman and Famke Janssen are a perfect match. Ron Perlman is a hitman who accidently meets Famke Janssen and they slowly fall in love, although this is definitely not a romantic movie. It is a crime thriller with depth, and the characters are well developed. I loved watching it, because ... everything is just perfect!

Brightburn (2019)

Terrible movie

I just watched this movie in the theater and was happy that it was over. What a terrible movie. There was practically no story in this pointless sequence of events around an adopted boy who appears to be some kind of powerful demonic alien. No building up of tension, but cheap jump scares instead, that all follow the same formula: silence followed by sudden camera movement with a lot of noise.

Except for Elisabeth Banks, the acting was very bad, especially that of the little boy. Of course, it is very difficult to act well with such a shallow and unnatural script. I am really amazed by all the praising reviews. What happened to good taste? Please do not waste your money on this.

Olympus Has Fallen (2013)

Entertaining and exciting action movie

"Olympus Has Fallen" is an entertaining and exciting action movie. Good acting, good stunts and a story that ensures that you do not get bored. I think that the negative reviews are totally unjustified, and I wonder what these people expect from an action movie. Perhaps the scenario is not entirely credible, but I do not expect that at all from such a movie. I think that Antoine Fuqua has delivered a fine piece of work and I can recommend this movie to everyone.

Excellent movie

I was really impressed by this great movie and the low rating seems totally unjustified to me. Sometimes you see a painting where it is not the content that catches your eye, but the way that it is painted. I would say that i have that experience with this movie: a well crafted piece of art. The acting is superb, the sound, music and scenery fit well together and create the perfect atmosphere for this story. Not a complex or spectacular story, but intriguing, and beautifully painted. Absolutely a must see for those who appreciate quality.

21 Grams (2003)

An Absolute Masterpiece

Fourteen years after its appearance i just watched this movie for the first time, and i am certain: this is one of the best movies i have ever seen, probably in my top 3. I would say that everything about it is perfect, but i was especially impressed by the way the story is told. The fragmented scenes that jump back and forth in time, slowly build up the complete picture, making clear how everything relates together. Yet, the movie does not make a fragmented impression, it is a perfect mosaic of topmost artistic quality. The acting is phenomenal, with no exception, giving extra power to an original and gripping story. I was glued to the screen and could feel the emotions of the characters. Also a special note to the sound, that is done very well and plays an important role in the whole atmosphere that is created. With the changing of scenes the soundscape also changes, sometimes from noisy to total silence, or the other way around. And always in perfect sync with the visuals. A real piece of art, that certainly deserves a 10

Blindsided (2013)

A solid thriller with good acting

The current rating of 5.5 for this excellent movie is way too low. I just watched it and while some of the reviewers criticize it for its simplicity and lack of twists, i would say that is what gives the movie its power. These reviewers just missed the point. Indeed, there are no moments where you jump out of your chair or scream out in fear: that would make it a horror movie. This is a solid thriller with good acting. The story line is simple but effective, and the movie does not need any more complexity or double layers. It is just perfect as it is. Actually, i think the makers have done a great job in making the simple story line interesting enough to be glued to your seat all the time, wanting to know whats going to come next. And there is enough suspense to make it exciting all the way through.

Dead Man Down (2013)

Outstanding movie

Dead Man Down is an outstanding movie, with great performances of Colin Farrell and Noomi Rapace. Although the movie is set against the background of gang violence and revenge, this is not what the movie is about.

Dead Man Down is a combination of an interesting character study and an original story line, in which the lives of 2 emotionally wounded persons somehow get connected by different motives of revenge. Yes, there is also some intense violence in the movie, but at the same time it is a movie with a lot of depth. It is well paced and kept my attention all of the time.

I give it a well deserved rating of 8!

Great Movie

After seeing this movie on DVD tonight i am amazed that its IMDb rating is so low. I was absolutely impressed by it. The acting is great, the historic setting and scenery is convincing and beautifully shot and the movie has an interesting story line, going much further and deeper than the raw violence that is suggested by the poster. Yes there is violence in it, because it is a realistic movie, but it is not dominating. The main characters are developed in an interesting way and the viewer is drawn into the movie because he can identify with them. The music is also very nice and fits well to create an atmosphere that makes the 8th century England come alive

Enemy (2013)

Unfinished, incomplete and disappointing

Usually i read the "Loved it" user reviews, before i buy a new DVD. If they can inspire me, i might go for it. So i did with "Enemy" and the reviews really whetted my appetite. It seemed like this would be just the right movie for me: mysterious, thrilling and artfully composed.

After watching the movie yesterday, i must admit that none of my expectations came true. I was really disappointed with this pointless movie.

"Mysterious" is something else than "unclear". I am very open to movies that inspire my imagination, but not when the result is a big question mark. Well, the latter was the case. The movie is also not "thrilling" in any sense, it was actually quite boring. I have nothing against slow movies, they can be very good and build up suspense on a deep level, but i could not feel any suspense in this movie, neither on the surface, nor below it. I also do not see the "artfull" qualities of this movie. Art is about shaping a certain content in a creative way, but i could not find any coherent content in this movie. The story line is very shallow and nothing is really happening. The symbolism with the spiders also did not fit into the movie in any way, besides from the fact that it is totally unclear to me what is meant by it.

I like Jake Gyllenhaal as an actor, but the roles he played here are so superficial that his qualities did not come out.

I recently watched "Prisoners", also directed by Denis Villeneuve and featuring Jake Gyllenhaal, and i really liked it, so i am surprised about the poor quality of "Enemy". I will watch "Incendies" tonight, and i really hope it has much more to offer.

Hardwired (2009)

Great sci-fi thriller, with a realistic message

I just watched this great movie, and really cannot understand the 4.7 rating. Please do not take any of the bad reviews serious. The people who wrote these reviews probably have a problem swallowing good quality food also, because they are used to junk food. This original and exciting sci-fi action-thriller should at least have a rating of 7, so i gave it a 10. The movie portrays a scary future, where dark forces take partial control of human beings minds by means of chip implants. A future, that actually might not be that far away from us. Apart from being very entertaining and full of suspense, keeping my attention all of the time, this movie has an important message to all of us. It shows the horrible reality of a world where evil people that are driven by greed, take control of our minds. The theme is nicely worked out. The acting might not be top-notch, but overall, it is good enough. Cuba Gooding Jr. performs alright, but Val Kilmer is rather disappointing and unconvincing. Luckily, his role is very limited. The camera work, and visual effects are nice and the script is OK. Certainly a movie not to miss!
