Memento (2000)
Very good movie, but be ready for it.
My summary may seem a bit cryptic, but so is this movie. The film style is innovative, albeit a derivative of the completely original plot. The narrative style is sincere in the attempt to portray a man who is searching for a murderer while suffering from an inability to form lasting memories. Be warned, however, this movie is not the bland intellectual stimulation, on par with end stage syphilis, that Hollywood is fond of creating these days. This film takes a bit of active thought. I saw it on a flight to London and must admit I switched to the music video selections after a few drinks. The more sober mind, however, found the movie to be both entertaining and thought provoking.
Thirty Two Short Films About Glenn Gould (1993)
The genius of Glenn Gould
I enjoyed this film considerably, however, I am also a die hard Glenn Gould fan. The film captures the genius and eccentricity of Gould with vignettes scored with Gould's interpretations of Bach and Beethoven weaved with glimpses of his autistic, or Asperger's, personality. Some of the negative or neutral critics listed here are not completely inappropriate. The film tends to cater to the classical music devotee as opposed to developing a narrative for the casually disinterested viewer. However, anyone with superficial knowledge of Gould, but with an interest in Bach or Beethoven, will enjoy this film, if anything, for it's choices in musical scores.
The Omega Code (1999)
The WORST movie I have seen in a long time
What a stinker, this movie has no redeeming value. I saw it on video because the premise looked interesting. However, the acting was pathetic and the plot infantile. My wife was so disgusted by how bad this movie was she actually asked for her money back at Blockbuster. Save your time and money and avoid this dud.
