Laxmii (2020)
A very poor copy of south Indian movie
It is a well known fact by now that Bollywood lacks creativity, a lot. They have endured a quick method of making tons of money with minimum of effort put into it.
The method is: pick a South Indian movie, add your agenda and propaganda to appease foreign viewers, make few scenes look cheap and at the end, add any pervert item song. This movie is not an exception to this formula either. But at least make a decent copy for once.
There is lot of overacting by all the actors and several flaw in logic.
Do not want to give away the spoilers, but this movie is certainly not worth the time.
To sum it all, if you want to torture yourself, watch Ajay Devgn's Himmatwala but leave this, because you can live by that but this is beyond anything,
Veere Di Wedding (2018)
Why was this movie even made?!
I fail to understand what was the motive of this movie? Feminism? Does not look like that. Because the lead actresses did not do or showcase any such scene where feminism took the front seat. The abuses used in dialogues also look misplaced and unnatural. When Richa Chaddha abused in Gangs of Wasseypur, it looked natural, but none of the actresses' abuses in Veere di wedding looked natural.
This movie looked like an attempt of female version of Zindagi na milegi dobara, but it failed there too.
It was all about product placement - Air India, Bikaji, HSBC, Videocon etc.
The supposedly best performer in this movie - Sumit Vyas was not given a proper length in this movie.
All in all, a totally pathetic movie.
Bollywood has nowadays totally lost it.
Firaaq (2008)
Good movie but totally biased
When a movie is made based on real incident, an attempt should be made to make it as true as possible; little bit of artistic freedom is allowed to make it commercial, but since this movie was not supposed to be a commercial movie, the narration should have stick to truth.. That's not the case here. This is a completely dishonest movie.
The 2002 Godhra riots happened and this movie is about the aftermath. But the director has projected that the Hindus were sole reason that this riot happened. The movie started from dead bodies being picked up and put in a truck with lotus on grill, trying to impart the idea who was behind it. In that case, they should have showed how the train was burnt and many families were locked inside by Muslims and they all died.
There are also many stereotypes drawn to show common Gujarati participated in the riots and indulged in rape and arsonry instead of the fringe elements responsible.
It also conveniently detaches itself from how Muslims were also equally involved in Hindu killings.
The movie could have been made better had there been unbias in it.
Acting by Naseeruddin Shah, Paresh Rawal, his brother-in-law and Deepti Naval is worth mentioning. Couple of dialogues and scenes are touchy.
Spyder (2017)
It's a good movie but...
I will not write much about it, just that it's a good movie, properly acted by Mahesh Babu and S Justin Surya but ***SPOILER*** it's also a copy of Dark Knight and somewhat of Snowden. This is was not expected from Murugadoss. When a movie like Dark Knight is copied, please give the credits as well. The movie will show signs of Dark Knight within an 1 hour of the movie and then everything becomes predictable.
Those who've watched Dark Knight will definitely like it.
Captain Fantastic (2016)
A venture by the bests in the game
While I was skimming over the list of movies for Oscars of 2017, I came across this movie. I always go over the reviews and trailers to determine whether the movie is as per my taste or not and boy, was I not thrilled to watch it.
The movie gives you a feeling of how we have been surrounding ourselves with false sense of achievement with the increased materialism and losing their original essence. The movie has highlighted some of the nuances of current society. The schooling, the social interactions and priorities etc. It's a conflict between the parental guidance and philosophy; whether you should let your kids know everything when they have a question then and there or wait till they come of age. It'll leave you feeling stuck with the idea of this movie and certainly happy. This movie has captivating story telling, acting and cinematography.
Don't want to give away scenes and/or spoilers; this movie is definitely a must-watch.
