We Still Kill the Old Way (2014)
Surprising good!
A gang of mindless scroats kill an old miscreant' brother. The ex-eastender gangster and his chums take revenge, in the old fashioned way.
I am currently watching this for the second time, largely to see if the scroats were as stupid as I remember the first time I watched it. They are! How anyone, whilst tied up and under 'duress' can issue threats of death to the old fellas, if they don't let them go, is beyond me. Just demonstrates how utterly stupid and arrogant young miscreants are.
I DO love it when the low-lifes get their comeuppance. Ian Ogilvy is splendid in his role and should be doing more since 'The Saint".
I seldom write reviews ( this is my second ) except when praise ( in this case ) or derision is necessary.
Absolutely Anything (2015)
Hugely enjoyable.
Maybe I'm easily pleased ( compared to some reviews ) but, I found this film hugely entertaining! Corollaries with this and 'Bruce Almighty' are, in my opinion, misplaced. It's much funnier.
I confess, I am a major Simon Pegg fan and he doesn't disappoint! The anthropomorphism of the dog, 'Dennis' is a superb 'observation' by the writer. Biscuits, sex and someone at the door, are priceless.
It's fast moving and never dull! The aliens, voiced by some of the Monty Python team, are really good, especially the choice of names when they start speaking in English.
I was slightly disappointed that 'Neil' never recognised that 'Catherine' liked him for who he was, there were plenty of clues!
I laughed a lot and will definitely see it again.
Your Highness (2011)
A cross between 'Krull' & 'The Inbetweeners'!
An interesting, comedic twist on the 'Fantasy Quest' genre! Lot's of 'schoolboy' humour and a large number of expletives, kept me entertained anyway!
It's a sort of 'Krull' meets 'The Inbetweeners' and I found myself laughing occasionally and smiling throughout! How they managed to get a pretty impressive cast, I don't know but, it all worked well, in my humble opinion.
It was Danny MacBride's previous incarnations which enticed me to watch the movie and he didn't disappoint! Almost as politically incorrect as many of his other roles albeit with a slightly anglicised accent, added to the fun.
It's likely to be panned by the critics but, if you want a light hearted romp for 105 minutes, don't mind gratuitous references to unnatural sexual acts, unexpected 21st Century expletives in a Medieval environment and Natalie Portman saying the odd 'F' word, then you may well enjoy this.
I have only written one previous review, for a film which had good reviews and I thought was crap! 'Your Highness' is the complete opposite, in my opinion and, as such has prompted my second review.
I will watch it again, not with my youngest daughter who is an ordained minister but with my eldest who is an A & E Nurse. Say no more.
Escape from Darwin (2008)
Interesting plot, decent cinematography but, dreadful acting from most.
The plot is quite novel and the cinematography is decent however, the acting from most of the cast ranges from 'wooden' to 'over the top'.
'Archie', the sociopathic, long-haired lout is quite ridiculous and not at all convincing! His 'over the top' portrayal of the gang leader is, in my humble opinion, just laughable, as are the two 'Men in Black'.
'Crackhead Joe' was a half decent performance but, considering he was supposed to be of Native American decent, he must have hailed from Quebec as I'm sure he had a French accent.
The constant use of the word 'stranger' was reminiscent of 'B' westerns from the 50's and 60's. I started to count the number of times it was used but got fed-up by the time it reached c.20.
I watched it right to the end only to see if it improved or had a twist in the ending. Nope!
Don't waste 84 minutes.
