Propaganda Film that misguides the people!
30 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The film speaks about anti-corporate agenda in the line of films such as "Kaththi", "Boomi", "Hero". The film here talks against the water-packaging business in plastic cans, which is being done by private sectors.

The film misguides the people by pouring false/unproven data/information at various instances. As similar to films like "Boomi", "Hero" the villain speaks artificial evil dialogues to showcase corporate men in bad light.

And there are several illogical sequences where a spy walks casually into opponent's military camp (as similar as a morning walk), disguising/vanishing himself from the scene in a fraction of seconds. Leave the spy apart, even a 7 year kid walks casually into highly secured confidential area(s) and guides the hero in an intelligent way.

Karthi fits his dual role as police/spy where character of actress Laila is totally a cringe. Songs are adequate in this film.

Final word for "Sardar" - Make it a miss ! Better avoid this propaganda film and save your precious money !

Average Film with good action block and predictable Twists
5 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Storyline - Agent Vikram (Kamal) with his masked identity leads a masked gang, who have their own tragic story in their past because of a dreadly drug mafia. Agent Vikram fights against the drug mafia, headed by Santhanam (Vijay Sethupathi) with the help of an undercover agent Amar (Fahad Fasil) and Bejoy (Narein). How does he successfully defeat the gang of Santhanam, forms the rest of the story.

Performance wise, Kamal and Fahad Fasil have done their part good. If first half of the film is dominated by Fahad Fasil, second half of the film is dominated by Kamal Hassan. Vijay Sethupathi's villain role could have been better as comparing his role in "Master", the villain role in this film seems to be weak.

The film has surprise cameo roles connected with director's previous films. The film has got good production values but screenplay of the film is simple and many twists are quite predictable.

Direction wise, the film is not as good as edge of the seat thriller "Kaithi" nor it is not as bad as "Master". The film is an average commercial flick with good action block.

Rudrathandavam - Kudos to the makers for the Bold Attempt
23 October 2021
Well this is a good social drama film against the anti social elements, who make politics and unfair issues by using the loopholes in the judiciary system.

Kudos to the makers for their bold attempt to make a film by pointing out the anti-social elements in the society, where other makers dare to make such a film.

Comparing previous films, director Mohan has shown immense care in the script of "Rudra Thandavam". And the cast Richard, Gautham Menon, Radha Ravi, Thambi Ramayya have done their part good.

This is not a film for commercial film lovers, since director has not given any provision for commercial space in the film.

As shown in the preview clips of the film, there is nothing controversy about the film or the film is not intended to hurt any community people's feelings. But the maker has boldly slapped out the cheap politicians in the society. Maybe, the followers of such politicians are recommended to avoid this film.

Overall, director has successfully conveyed his message through this film. Just spare few moments and watch this social drama film.

"Dikkiloona"- Entertainment Guaranteed !
19 September 2021
"Dikkiloona" is a must watch "Comedy" film for all set of audiences and it is a surprise comedy package from Santhanam.

The film has an interesting comedy plot and without re-opinion, this film can be considered as best film of "Hero" Santhanam as on 2021. Rather than solely relying on "one-liner" dialogues, Santhanam has preferred a wise script.

Apart from Santhanam, many artists (Yogi Babu, Anandaraj, Munishkanth etc) are there to trigger your tickling bones.

The film humorously showcases the cultural demolition prevailing in our society, in the name of "Modernization".

Forget the logic and watch it as a full length "Comedy" entertainer rather than considering this as a "Sci-fiction" film, since the "Sci-fiction" factor itself has been trolled and parodied in many scenes of the film.

Personally, I recommend to watch this timepass entertainer along with your friends.

Theri (2016)

Watchable Commercial Entertainer
17 April 2016
If you are seeking for a commercial entertainer without the consideration of the logic or other things in mind, Yes "Theri" is the right choice for you.

The storyline is nothing new. It is a usual revenge plot. But director Atlee had managed to score in the screenplay. The film is a blend of every commercial essence like action, humour, romance, sentiments. Director Atlee had mixed it in the right proportion.

After an unsatisfactory performance in "Puli", Actor Vijay had managed to pull the audience with ease by his police character as well as in parent role. From Actor Vijay to Motta Rajendran, every characters in the film did their part well. Performance of Baby Nainika is noteworthy.

There are few negative aspects in the film too. A sense of "Deja Vu" would be felt throughout the film. The way, Atlee had delivered a social message in the film is praiseworthy. But he had blended scenes from many tamil films like Kshatriyan, Ghajini & Yennai Arindhaal. Plus, the film is so predictable.

Leaving the negatives, definitely there are some "Therrri" moments in the film. Overall it is the right commercial film that you have to spent with your family in theaters.

Vedalam (2015)

Strictly for Ajith Fans
10 November 2015
'Vedhalam' is a run-of-the-mill mass masala film which follows the 'Baashaa' template. But here the director had concentrated more on sister sentiment quotient.

The plot goes as below : Ganesh (Ajith Kumar), with his lovely sister (Lakshmi Menon) leads a simple life in Kolkotta. But Ganesh happens to target underworld dons with intention. What is the motive behind it and how he kills those scumbags follows the rest of the film.

Being a commercial genre film, the film provides few entertainment and mass moments throughout the film. Ajith Kumar's screen presence would be a treat for his fans. Lakshmi Menon has some space to perform in the film and she had justified her role.

Other than that, the film contains many negatives and logical loopholes. Surprisingly, Anirudh had failed to score good both in songs and background score.

Overall, this movie has been targeted for Ajith fans and the film had failed to impress the general audience.

Watchable Family Entertainer
31 May 2015
Plot Line : Things get wrong for a conman when he gets deceived by a ghost.

Shortly, "Masss" is totally a one man show performance delivered by Suriya. He is simply electrifying throughout the film. It is Suriya who engages the audience till the climax even though the script is half baked.

But director Venkat Prabhu deserves a applause for trying out a different dimension in Tamil Cinema. Overall, the director could have concentrated more on the screenplay part.

There are equal number of pros and cons in this film. Suriya's performance, Visuals, Twists and Background score are the major positives of the film. The negative part of the film is illogical scenes and old run of the mill concept which was followed in the second half of the film.

The content of the film is mainly intended for kids and family audience. Overall, forget the logics and take your family out to theaters. It could be a watchable entertainer for you.

Film that tests your patience
3 May 2015
'Uthama Villain' is a kind of experimental comedy emotional flick, which has been intended to satisfy Kamal's thirst of his passion, but not intended for the normal audience.

The film is about Manoranjan (Kamal Haasan), leading Tamil actor who is about to have his last breath. So finally he wanted to end his career by working in a comedy film with director Margadarsi (K.B. Balachander).

The positives of the film are its lead cast. The entire cast involving Kamal, K.B. Balachander, Urvasi, Nasser, M.S. Bhaskar have delivered realistic acting throughout the film. Apart from that, some excellent visuals and sets are the major assets of the film. Late director K.B. Balachander could not have a perfect ending tribute than this.

The most negative part of the film is its slow paced screenplay. Obviously the final moments of the film will leave the audience emotional, but audience have to patiently tolerate many boring moments in the film. The entire 'Uthaman Part' (which resembles 1960s comedy dramas), hardly tickles the audience' laugh bones and finally became a disastrous part among the audience. It is normal to wonder why the makers have opted to add outdated 1960s comedy style in this flick.

Normally Kamal is known for slow paced classical films like Nayagan, Kuruthipunal and Anbe Sivam. But, unfortunately 'Uthama Villain' does not belong to that category. The makers could have chopped many unwanted scenes in the film and make the film more engaging towards the audience.

Overall, the film is totally intended to satisfy Kamal's thirst of his passion, but the makers have left the audience' thoughts behind. Hold your patience and watch out the film.

Komban (2015)
7/10
A Pleasant Rural Drama Flick
5 April 2015
'Komban' is an engaging rural action drama flick which is set in the backdrops of Ramanathapuram district in Tamil Nadu.

The plot revolves around the primary character Kombaya Pandian aka Komban (Karthi), a tough angry man who develops grudge against a baddie Gundan Ramasamy (Super Subbarayan) by humiliating the baddie's prestigious image in the village. Gundan Ramasamy, along with his men seeks to take revenge against Komban by killing him. But due to circumstances his grudge extends over Komban's father in law Muthaiya (Raj Kiran) and Komban's wife (Lakshmi Menon). Can Komban manage to save himself and his family from Gundan Ramasamy and his men ?

The casting of the film is perfect and every lead characters did their role well. Lead Actor Karthi deserves a special mention. He rocked in his role, as Komban and he is tailor-made for the role. Songs of the film are well pictured and Velraj's Cinematography looked neat.

Coming to the negatives, there are few. One of the major flaws of the film is its lengthy climax, which brought the pulse of the audience down.

Even though there are flaws in the film, Komban would give the audience, a pleasant rural experience that worth your money.

Perfect Time Pass Entertainer
21 March 2015
Want to spend a 2 hours time by watching a perfect entertainer stuff ? Yes, this is the right film to watch.

The film is about a solar flare issue, which deactivates city's entire mobile network. The film revolves around 3 plots.

One plot is about Vasanth (Nakhul), a tech geek, who tries to restore city's entire mobile network. Second plot revolves around Mukhil (Dinesh), who is in search of his girl friend Simi (Bindu Madhavi), whose life is in danger. Third plot is around car driver Raja (Sathish), whose car has been planted with a deadly bomb.

The entire cast (Nakhul, Dinesh, Bindu Madhavi & Sathish) had delivered a neat performance. Unlike other films, comedian Sathish had a good role to perform in the film and he had delivered it good.

What worked out good in the film is, the way the director interrelates all the plots in the storyline. The director had mixed some bits of comedy and science elements in the thriller flick.

Overall, this is one of the best thriller flick I have seen in Tamil Cinema. This film is recommended for all sort of audience.

An Engaging Romance Thriller
16 February 2015
The movie revolves around a girl (Madhu), who remembers her previous births. In every era, there forms a love story between the lead pairs.

Director K.V. Anand had mixed the reincarnation concept with some commercial elements to satisfy the audience. The major positive of the film is its lead cast, the hype around the story and rich visuals.

Dhanush had delivered one of his best performance in the film. He was very good in his characters Murugappa and Kaali. And the surprise package is Amyra Dastur. In this film, the lead heroine had much scope for her performance in the film and she had done her job with ease.

Supporting actors, like Karthik, Ashish Vidhyarthi and Mukesh Tiwari have also done their part well. 'Danga Maari' song is the pick of the film and that would be a treat for the audience.

The negative sides are few. The flick resembles to be a modern version of yesteryear Tamil blockbuster film "Nenjam Marappathillai" and final moments of the film are quite predictable, alike all Tamil films.

Forget the negatives. Overall, the film gives you a little fantasy feel and unlike his previous flick, director K.V. Anand had concentrated well on the screenplay and mixed some moments of suspense to keep the audience engaged to this romance flick.

This movie is worth your money and time. Do watch it !

Yennai Arindhaal - A Treat for Action Movie Lovers
5 February 2015
The film is simply about Sathyadev - his ambitions, love and his take over gangsters.

The major loophole of the film is its pre-interval portions. The pre-interval portions of the film are narrated too slow with a sluggish screenplay. But the film takes over in the post-interval portions at a good pace.

The film has a strong cast, where Ajith Kumar & Arun Vijay had a good scope to perform in the film and they are perfect in their roles. The scenes involving Ajith & Arun Vijay are a treat for the audience. Action scenes are well choreographed by Stunt Silva.

Overall this is the movie which is a treat for action movie lovers. The film definitely worth your money.

Darling (III) (2015)

An Average Horror Comedy Flick
18 January 2015
'Darling' is an average horror comedy flick which works out good in few parts. Nowadays Kollywood audience are keen to watch horror comedy flicks. Keep your expectation level low and watch this flick at once.

The casting of the film looks good. G.V. Prakash as debut hero, was convenient in his role and had scored well in songs and background music. Nikki Galrani looked cute and bubbly. Karunas & Bala Saravanan did their supporting roles in a decent manner.

As a horror flick, this film has a weak storyline and does not have any scary quotient. But it has few comedy moments with some one-liners of Karunas & Bala Saravanan as a saving grace.

Overall, forget this film as a horror flick and watch it as a comedy film.

Romantic Love Story with an unexciting screenplay
16 January 2015
Director Shankar is famous for his excellent visuals and racy screenplay. In this film, Shankar had proved himself in the visuals part and failed miserably in the screenplay part.

Definitely, there are lot of good scenes in the film. What worked out big is fascinating chemistry of Vikram and Amy Jackson. Vikram has lived as Lingesan throughout the movie and he makes us cry in few scenes. Apart from glamor, Amy Jackson has also proved her in acting and she is lovely.

The major negative of the film is its predictable screenplay and director failed to make the audience edge-seated in the second half of the film. This is the film which definitely needs a trim. At the same time, this film cannot be avoided at ease.

This is the film which can be watched once for Vikram's performance and visuals.

Lingaa (2014)

Strictly only for Superstar Fans
13 December 2014
"Lingaa" is an action drama film, which is recommended for Superstar fans alone. This film is a treat for those who long to watch Superstar's screen presence back after his illness. Otherwise, definitely this is the movie to be deserved in your skip list.

The film is full and full dominated by Superstar's screen presence. Superstar Rajnikanth is simply electrifying throughout the movie. His screen presence is the major asset of the movie. Santhanam as his sidekick, also has done his supporting part well. Visuals by Rathnavelu in the period portions are noteworthy.

Coming to the negatives, there are plenty. The major drawback of the film is its slow paced screenplay, unlike other Superstar films. You wonder whether professionals like K.S. Ravikumar, A.R. Rahman and Lee Whittaker are part of this film. Songs and Background score are a big letdown and climax fight of the film became a cracking part in the theaters.

Overall this Kollywood film is packed with more 'Tollywood' masala essence. If you are a Superstar fan or if you are okay with illogical fight scene, you can watch the film at once.

Vijay is back with a Bang
22 October 2014
The film conveys a strong social message which depicts the current pity situation of farmers, where their resources are exploited by multinational companies.

Regarding the first half, the screenplay is much slow and dramatic which makes you unfocused off the movie. But the film takes on in the second half with racy screenplay.

Vijay's performance looked neat where he had emoted good in few scenes and avoided unnecessary punch dialogs. Actress Samantha is adequate in the movie. She is just used for filling the glamor quotient. Cinematography by George is appreciable.

What worked out in the film is, A.R. Murugadoss' bold attempt in depicting country's corruption as well as MNC's con moves by razor sharp dialogs.

Finally, actor Vijay has succeeded once again by joining with A.R. Murugadoss after 'Thupaaki'. After the failures of his previous flicks, Vijay had managed to rectify his mistakes and A.R. Murugadoss had well used the actor in the film.

Worst Horror Movie
29 September 2014
"Prema Katha Chitram" is a 'run-of-the-mill' horror film where the script is as similar as every horror film subjects. But the director had tried to show some difference in the film by mixing comedy elements in the film. Unfortunately, the comedy mix as well as horror part does not really work out.

The screenplay looked so childish and artificial that no where the film showed realism. Thereby, the film failed to scare the audience.

The whole cast really have doomed the film by their overacting, while the female lead Nandita Raj is the only saving grace (performance wise). Overall this is a film that you have to make it a miss !

Strictly Average Movie
17 August 2014
If you are looking for an outstanding action plot (or) a perfect time- pass flick, then definitely this is not the film you are looking for.

First of all, the story is itself not well scripted and executed with a very average screenplay. Obviously the film contains few mass scenes and interesting sequences. But that is not alone enough to lift a movie up.

The major assets of the movie are, Suriya, Vidhyut Jamwal, Santhosh Sivan & few sequences in the first half. Suriya, as usual had nailed his role perfectly. But the director had made his characterization badly. Vidhyut Jamwal had a different role in this movie and he had also perfectly done his role. Cinematographer Santhosh Sivan had pictured Mumbai in a better manner.

The major negatives of the film are unwanted scenes in the second half and unexciting screenplay. The film lost its track somewhere in the second half and till climax, the director failed to bring the audience's attention back to the film.

Overall, this movie may be a stuff for Suriya fans where they can enjoy Suriya's screen presence in every frame. But for others, definitely this is not a film they could enjoy.

Jilla (2014)

'Jilla' - Strictly for Die-hard fans of Mohanlal & Vijay !
15 January 2014
'Jilla' storyline is quite simple where Sakthi (Vijay) wants his father Sivan (Mohanlal) to withdraw all of his illegal activities in Madurai. Circumstances makes Sakthi to turn against his father who brought him up throughout his childhood.

It is well clear visible throughout the film that director Nesan had overall focused the 'First Day First Show' audiences alone, leaving the other audiences behind. The whole film is filled with several ingredients like action, romance, comedy, family sentiments. But those things have not worked anyway in the film.

In the midst, unwanted fight scenes makes the audience tiring and song sequences also did not work out except 'Kandangi Kandangi'. The interval block of the film seems somewhat promising and made the audience to expect something new and fire in the second half. But the second half also failed miserably. There is a twist near the end. Other than that, the climax was 100% predictable.

Much expected Mohanlal's performance is also not up to the hype. The actor seemed majestic in the scenes where he smokes. But the actor failed to give proper dialog delivery and expressions in important scenes. Vijay does overacting throughout the film and he is nowhere fit as a police officer. His artificial face expressions make the audience more irritating. Kajal Agarwal does not really have much screen-space in the film.

Cinematography looks decent in parts and editing by Don Max is below average.

The only saving grace of the film is some comedy bits of 'Parotta' Soori and Imman's background score. Overall, the film is just made for the audience to whistle in the 'FDFS' and the film had failed to impress the neutral audience.

The movie is strictly for die-hard fans of Mohanlal & Vijay who can enjoy their actor's screen presence in theaters. Remaining audience, just make it a miss for the film.
