Only Murders in the Building (2021)
Disappointed
Just finished watching Season 1. I was excited seeing the high ratings and Steve Martin Short, but I was very disappointed. Neither funny nor thrilling. Selena Gomez was a total miscast. Her acting is terrible and voice irritating. Three check boxes ticked with the character of overweight black lesbian cop. And couple of scenes with her lesbian partner were totally unnecessary. Are New York cops this dumb to hand over evidence to some random podcasters? Jan talks like a serial killer even though she killed just one person. It would have made sense if she killed first chair basoonist who took her spot.
Better Call Saul: Plan and Execution (2022)
9.9 rating, Seriously?
9.9 rating, Seriously? What for? Shocking killing of Howard? As far as I remember, Howard wasn't really that bad guy. I don't understand why Jimmy and Kim went to extreme lengths to tarnish Howard's reputation. Jimmy and Kim are totally responsible for Howard's death. No good characters to root for. This season was interesting till Nacho Varga was alive.
Mare of Easttown: Sacrament (2021)
Shock value: YES, Believable: NO
Shock value: YES, Believable: NO. Zero contribution of Guy Pearce's character to the story. Character I liked most is Mare's mother.
Creamerie (2021)
Done with this....
After watching fifth episode I am done with this. In spite of interesting premise, first episode itself wasn't great, but I continued watching. 2nd and 3rd episodes were good, then again it went downhill. Most of the 4th episode is at some some sort of fair, 5th episode at dinner table. No edge of seat thrills because this is very low budget stuff. No funny moments. Hardly one or two jokes in an episode. Lone surviving male is hunted by a woman with a tranquilizer gun. That's how exciting it is.
The Last Hour (2021)
Slow and repetitive
Slow and repetitive. In the second episode itself it is known that Yama Nadu and Thapa are responsible for all the killings. But Arup (Police) and Dev cannot catch them. More people die. Dev lights the lamp, sleeps besides the dead person holding their hand and walks through their last hour and gets some clues in the process. Same thing repeating again and again. Yama Nadu and Thapa still on loose. Dev is an excellent archer, his skills are used only in the first episode. Why have great skills for the lead and not use them? All we see is him just practicing his archery skills. Why did the two policemen kill Dev's brother and Doma's father? No explanation for that. My guess is they want to pin Arzoo's murder on some random people and kill them and claim the reward money that Arzoo's father announced. In one scene, it is shown Dev as a kid was abducted from his parents by Yama Nadu and Amoo, but no follow up to that. Wasted enough time on this. Not watching Season 2.
Cinema Bandi (2021)
Small and Beautiful.
Its a small film with a very low budget and unknown faces. Don't let that fool you, it is a beautiful film. Acting is top notch, even though most of them are newcomers/amateurs. Film is about how people from a small village make a movie with a lost and found digital camera. For a country that is obsessed with movies, it is piece of cake. Auto rickshaw driver becomes producer cum director, wedding photographer becomes cinematographer, barber becomes hero, vegetable vendor becomes heroine, kid becomes script supervisor. Scenes where they try to find heroine for the movie are hilarious. And the heroine selling vegetables in shot gaps is too funny. Initially, villagers are reluctant about this movie making, but later on they all pitch in. I appreciate the director for avoiding the class divide that we find in many village based movies. Scenes between Veerababu and his wife are nicely done. Especially, the scene where she goes to work in fields to support her husband financially. They say a lot to each other without actually saying anything. Main plot point is unanswered, How did the bag get into auto rickshaw?
Utmark (2021)
It all starts with a dog killing a sheep
TV at its best. Quirky characters, solid acting, beautiful wilderness as setting. One can't ask for more. Its a modern western. With the main antagonist dead, they could have ended the series. I am doubtful if season 2 will be this engaging without Bilzi.
Mare of Easttown (2021)
Similarities with "Happy Valley"
Happy Valley keeps coming to my mind while watching this. Both had female cops of small town investigating disappearance/murder of young girl. With not so much help from mother/sister, raising grandson after suicide of son/daughter whereas grandson's mother/father is drug addict/criminal.
Vanquish (2021)
Awful is a small word for this garbage
Story takes place in one night and I am sure the movie was also shot in one night. Half of the movie is Ruby Rose riding bike. Chase scenes are laughable. I am curious, in this low budget movie how much was Morgan Freeman paid. Is he so desperate for money? Going ahead, I will remember Morgan Freeman for this movie for all the wrong reasons.
De Gaulle, l'éclat et le secret (2020)
Confusing............
I am not French, I have no knowledge of De Gaulle. I was curious to know about this French icon. This series didn't help much. It was confusing, moving forward and backward in timelines. I suggest the documentary "De Gaulle: histoire d'un géant" if you are interested in De Gaulle
Troc Mort (2017)
Too good till the end ..........
Too good till the end. Fitting 3 men in a coffin, one of them is fat, didn't convince me. Can be made into full length feature film
Un homme à abattre (1967)
Final act messed up
The movie is pretty good during the surveillance part. After observing their target for years, finally when they decide to kill him, they mess it up. Target comes alone unarmed and 4 of them hide in the cellar waiting for him. Result, target escapes killing/injuring 2 of them. Later, on of them says they should have attacked him instead of hiding in the cellar.
Murder at 1600 (1997)
Diane Lane is gorgeous
Diane Lane is gorgeous, movie is okay Sorry, your review is too short.
Horrible Bosses (2011)
Morons
These morons deserve the way they are treated by their bosses. How can these idiots even have a job in the first place. Actually, I liked the bosses more. Their characters are more interesting.
Just Like Heaven (2005)
Good one
I am not a big fan of romantic movies, but I loved it. How did I miss this all these years.
The Goldbergs (2013)
Monotonous
I am watching season 5 now, I like the first 2 seasons, after that it felt kind of monotonous. Every episode is the same. Episode starts with everyone hating everyone and ends with everyone loving everyone. Only good parts are when they are referring to 80's pop culture
Coriolanus (2011)
not mine own cuppeth of tea
After 10 minutes, I forwarded the movie at 16X speed. I couldn't understand the dialogues, even with English subtitles. Plot looked interesting, but the dialogues killed the movie for me.
Black Panther (2018)
Not your typical Marvel movie
Its slow, preachy. No big action sequences, including climax. No LOL moments, may be 1 or 2 chuckles. Except for Andy Serkis, rest of the actors are boring. Bottom line, not your typical Marvel movie
Need for Speed (2014)
Pathetic
Now that message boards are closed, I had to write my first review. Pathetic movie. Aaron Paul is miscast. No story and laughable dialogues. Michael Keaton is the most irritating character followed by Imogen Poots and Scott Mescudi. Dominic Cooper is the only likable character even though he is the bad guy. The most ridiculous scene I ever saw in movies is refueling the car on the move. Cant they stop for 2 minutes to refuel?
