Reviews
Devour (2005)
OK, this is not the best, but its OK.
This film looses something. Its not the acting, thats good and about the only thing that keeps you watching, but there's just something lacking. The sound track keeps springing to mind. You start off with this really intense rock music and end up with something you'd hear in a lift and its very bland or missing completely. Spoils the atmosphere.
Also they seem to have skipped some plot bits. The flashbacks can be confusing and Shannyn Sossamon gets on my nerves. Jensen Ackles is good in what I think is his first title role.
If you're a fan of Jensens, you'll love this film, he's in nearly all the scenes. Also Martin Cummmins his Dark Angel co-star is in it.
In all its entertaining and worth a watch. I would recommend it, but don't expect anything earth shattering.
Hawk the Slayer (1980)
The Cheesiest of the Cheese!
Ahhhh! Hawk the Slayer. What can I say, that hasn't already been said. Its just one of those films that can only be called a classic, because its so bad. It just goes to show that 2 rights can make a wrong.
Its awful, the acting it diabolical and the special effects, even for the 80's, are dreadful, but it has to be seen. Don't even mention the soundtrack! Its a must see. I love this film so much.
Look out for the earliest robot ever in the form of an elf. His line delivery makes my fridge look positively animated. It defies description.
9 out of 10 just for the sheer campness and bad acting.
Kingdom of Heaven (2005)
Very Enjoyable. Well Worth Watching
OK, I enjoyed this film a great deal. People keep comparing this film to Gladiator. Its not! If you can take off the Gladiator/Russell Crowe tinted glasses and just watch the film, trust me you will enjoy it. Its not earth shattering, but its a good film, that handled itself well.
Orlando Bloom as the lead is putting some people off, but he does a good job and hes lost the boyish looks of LOTR and such. He does have some problems, but give the bloke a chance, it is his first big lead role. I think he just needs to learn to let some of his own character and confidence to come through. If he does that he'll become a very good actor.
The rest of the cast is a star studded array of talent, that all bring their own flair to their roles.
I would recommend this film, but if you're not going to see it without the tinted glasses, I wouldn't bother.
Equilibrium (2002)
Brilliant
I thought this film was brilliant. I know a lot of people slated this film, they expected to see another Matrix, and it's not. This film has a little more depth which requires the brain to be used. I believe that in one of the comments before, puts it's finger on the problem. Anything to do with martial arts, guns or futuristic is being held up against the Matrix, which is unfair. If you give this film a chance to stand on it's own, then it is enjoyable, the fight scenes are fantastic and some of it is quite touching.
Christian Bale gives a wonderful performance and portrays a grown man finding his feelings for the first time with great depth. Give yourself a treat, do what the cover says - Forget the Matrix and enjoy a good film.
10/10 from me!!
The Prophecy (1995)
Worth a watch
I have watched this film several times and have enjoyed it every time. Christopher Walken is excellent as Gabriel, as he has a presence on screen that just cannot be beaten. The theological side of the story is much more interesting than angels being fluffy creatures most people believe in, and are closer to the angels described in older scripts and texts. You can enjoy this film without being pulled in by beliefs and religion so don't be frightened of it, enjoy the film and another sterling performance by Walken.
Fire and Ice (1983)
Unforgettable
I saw this film not long after it came out, and loved it. If there is one film that I would recommend to see if you love Fantasy/Fiction or Animation, then this is it. I was very pleased that they have now released it on DVD, if you would like to know where to get it from please feel free to contact me. Definately one to see and unforgettable
