Minority Report (2002)
A thriller, a mystery, and a tearjerker that excels in all three aspects
Minority Report is one of the best movies I have ever seen. It incorporates state of the art special effects with a thought provoking look at the future and how far the law should go to protect its citizens. Tom Cruise portrays a character that is one of the most dynamic characters in all of cinema. His role as the Washington D.C. Pre-Crime division Chief of Police is made all the more believable when combined with the genuine love he has for his son. I honestly believed that he would do ANYTHING for one more chance to get his son back. The movie works in all aspects, whether it be action, suspense, or just emotional commitment to the characters. Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise reminded me why I love movies so much. This movie will continue to be one of my favorites for years to come. I recommend it to anyone.
One Good Cop (1991)
A great movie about a good person trying to do good things in a bad world.
This is an excellent movie that surprised me at every turn. It felt like watching someones real life, with up and downs and real decisions. One Good Cop is an uplifting story about a good person with difficult decisions to make. After the death of his partner Keaton and his wife (Rene Russo) are given custody of his three girls. Keaton cannot afford three kids and foster care will split the kids up. The decision that Keaton makes is brutal but for people who are desperate sometimes something brutal is the only solution. I had never heard of this movie before but it has become one of my favorites. Michael Keaton gives a great performance the entire way through. This is a 4 for 4 star movie.
Gallipoli (1981)
A sobering and brilliant vision into war, and the path two friends take getting there.
Gallipoli is a film that sends a message about war straight to the viewers heart. It doesn't talk about the politics of war, it simply tells a story of two young men going to war. The film is completely unbiased in its opinion of war. The end is true and tragically real. This film is an emotional journey that is laced with sincerity in every scene. I love this movie not only for its message but also for its story and characters.
GATTACA (1997)
The best confirmation of human life ever.
This a movie about how an ordinary man can triumph over the highest obstacles. In a Nazi like society where the best race is that of a pre-determined birth. One man, Vincent, is born a natural birth. Despite the limitations society puts on Vincent he is still able to achieve something that no one else is able to achieve. When a person's potential is being measured before birth, Vincent proves that a human comes from the soul, not the DNA.
