Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
Game of Thrones in Space - NOT 'Star Trek'
Somewhere there's a richter scale going off the charts as Gene Roddenberry spins in his grave. This is NOT 'Star Trek'. This cheap cash grab does everything in it's power to ruin and bastardize this beloved franchise. But hey... at least we have 'The Orville'. :)
Extinction (2018)
Sci-fi at it's best!
In my opinion, I'd suggest avoiding any reviews... and just watch the film. This is one of those (rare) films that I immediately looked forward to viewing again, sometime soon, once the credits started rolling. Like I said... this is (social) science-fiction at it's best!!
Bright (2017)
Critics say "F*@# magic"?? I don't know. I still think it's kinda cool!
Not really anything I can say that hasn't been said already. Critics seemed to hate it & fans seem to really like. Woah... there's a shocker!!
When it comes down to it, you either watch a movie... or you don't. IMHO this is definitely worth a watch. It certainly borrowed heavily from things I've seen in the past (Alien Nation + Training Day w/ a splash of World of Warcraft)... yet it managed to feel "original". While watching, I wanted to know more about this world they lived in... and when it was over, it left me wanting to see more too. This is one of those occasions where they could (& should) have made a series out of Bright. *fingers*crossed*
Future Man (2017)
Time-travel done right!! (No rules, just fun!!)
With all the *bad* "kid ends up in a 'real life' video game"-type movies out there, I was hesitant after watching one of the early trailers. But with Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg attached, I figured I'd at least try one episode.
Needless to say... it's 6 hours later and I'm sad that I only have one episode left to watch. :'-( This might not be for everyone, but it's definitely a fun ride for anyone who loves sci-fi/time-travel movies, 'geek' culture, and/or 80's/90's nostalgia. Ridiculously fun performances by everyone involved and a story that has you eagerly ready to play the next episode before the credits appear. I was originally disappointed that the episodes were only 30min long, but they made the most of every second and it makes for great pacing.
Definitely binge-worthy, but now I'm wishing that I was the one who could time-travel... so I don't have to wait another year for Season 2!!
