The Haunting of Hill House (2018)
This Is Us meets American Horror Story Murder House
Wow!
I only just finished the series last night but man, I can NOT get it out of my head! This was a PHENOMENAL hit by Netflix and Mike Flanagan. I have not read Shirley Jackson's book but I do know that this was not an exact reenactment. This show has soooo much heart, devastation, love, and scares are added to keep us engaged. I have read so many people here saying that they came into this expecting horror, and left in tears and I couldn't agree more. After episode 5, I found myself with this ache in my heart that hasn't left yet (if you've watched the show, you'll know what I'm referring to). I am an avid fan of This Is Us and this show reminded me so much of it. The family drama and tragedy that PULLS at your heartstrings, the love between siblings despite drama/tragedy, and the undying love parents have for their children. I definitely recommend this show for ANYONE looking for a Halloween season binge, and to those that are looking for a good show to watch, because believe me, you will not be disappointed.
The Fault in Our Stars (2014)
I'm glad I chose to get hurt by this movie
*SOME SPOILERS*
This was definitely by far one of my favourite book to movie adaptations. I left the theatre feeling the same way I felt when I finished the book. Everything was so well done! I loved the acting, directing and writing of this movie!
I was skeptical when I found out the Ansel Elgort was going to play Augustus.. I had watched Carrie, and I loved the character he played in that movie, and I thought he was quiet cute.. I also watched Divergent, but personally, I don't like the character, so I didn't think much of his role in the movie. In the book, Augustus was described to be incredibly hot and breath takingly beautiful. Though I thought Ansel was good looking, I was still worried. However, I was not disappointed AT ALL by Ansel's portrayal and the director's choice. I could not have imagined a better person to play Augustus! He did such an amazing job playing the role! I fell in love with Augustus Waters all over again because of Ansel :) I knew that Shailene was going to do an amazing job! I have seen her previous movies/TV shows (The Descendants, The Spectacular Now, Divergent, The Secret Life of an American Teenager) and I already loved her as an actress! I was not at all shocked at her beautiful performance! Supporting cast did a remarkable job, glad to see Willem Dafoe in this movie!
The screenplay, locations and direction of this movie completely satisfied me as a book fan. Everything did complete justice to me as a fan. Though there were scenes that were taken out, I was no disappointed, though a little shocked. The way they portrayed the feelings and emotions of the book to the movie was SPECTACULARLY beautiful! The essence of the story and book was not missed! The same lessons were taught, the same emotions were felt and the same ache and tears came through half of the movie. The way the dealt with the tragedy was amazing.. I was so glad that they made us fall in love with Augustus the same way as John Green made us fall in love with him! The worst part for me to deal with was the pre funeral scene mostly, but mostly half of the movie left me in tears!
Excellent job done, and I could have not been happier as a book fan :) Thank you Josh Boone, Scott Neustadter, John Green, Shailene Woodley, Ansel Elgort, Nat Wolff, and all other cast for making this experience the best possible for me!
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 (2011)
Best Twilight Movie Yet!
For people that are not Twi-Hards this movie would seem really bad and dull. But for those that are Twi-Hards, like me, they would LOVE this movie! It was almost exactly the same as the book, though there were some scenes added and replaced/removed. I'm glad that there were some scenes(such as Bella getting 2 cars from Edward) that they didn't show. Some scenes from the book just seemed so pointless.
I absolutely LOVED what they did with the wedding! It was really heart touching and it was so much better than the book's wedding scene. I loved how Bill Condon added the wedding speeches (especially Charlie's and Jessica's). The speeches brought a lighthearted humor towards the scene.
The honeymoon was a bit graphic, but was pretty close to how the book described everything.
I absolutely loved the transition from a lighthearted movie, to an extremely dark and somewhat horror like film. I think that Kristen Stewart did an amazing job acting in this movie, so much better than in the other three. The make-up they did on her and the special effects put on her were really good and she seemed really fragile, like she could break and die at any minute, as it was meant to be. Very effective!
The wolf scene where Jacob confronted Sam was a bit of a stretch, I have to say, but the CGI on the wolves was pretty awesome, they seemed pretty real. I absolutely LOVE Seth's character, he's such a cutie! The birth scene was so intense, and, even though I have read the book and knew what was going to happen, I still cried seeing how hard Edward and Jacob were trying to save Bella. Jacob crying was absolutely intolerable, I could not stop crying, since I absolutely love the character and Taylor Lautner's acting in the films.
I have got to say, the effects that they did on Renesmee were a bit off, but she was such a cute baby! The whole future that they showed with Jacob and Renesmee was pretty awesome, I loved how they showed their future and who Renesmee would become afterwards, and how Jacob would do anything for her.
The fight between the wolves and the Cullens was not in the book and was not meant to happen, so I thought it was kind of unnecessary, but it was nice how Jacob stopped the wolves from attacking Renesmee. It was also nice how Edward seemed so unsurprised/angry when he found out and told the others of how Jacob had imprinted on Renesmee and that it was the worst thing to do if you killed a pack members imprintee. Cullens about the law the wolves have that they can't kill another wolves imprintee. I thought he would be a bit more furious that he imprinted on his daughter, but I liked this part of Edward.
The ending (not going to reveal what it was) was a good shock, but that was also the same way that I had imagined it would end, that kind of cliffhanger worked really well for those people that read the books and for those who hadn't.
OK, for those of you who haven't watched it yet, DO NOT leave right when the credits start rolling. There is a special little scene after a few minutes of the credits. I regret not staying and I had to watch it on YouTube later that day.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 (2010)
Best Harry Potter movie yet!
This was by far my favourite movie of all 7 so far! It was a COMPLETE success and I loved it!
I believe that there were some scenes that could have been improved like the wedding and the dursley's departing scene which in my opinion was way to short. I was a bit ticked off when they didn't add Harry's birthday, but everything else that was really well done covered up for everything.
Scenes that I thought were REALLY well done would be: the café scene, the whole godric's hallow scene, malfoy manor, The Three Peverell Brother's story, Ron destroying the locket scene and when Dobby died. Even though I've read all the books and I knew that Dobby was going to die, I still cried. It was a really good and emotional scene.
I can't wait for Part 2, and I know as a fact that Part 2 is going to be as good as this part was!
The Vampire Diaries: Brave New World (2010)
Blood thirsty, but amazing!
This was an amazing episode! I love how they showed Caroline turning into a vampire! Candice Accola did an amazing job as her character! I think that how they showed that Caroline wakes up and gets all blood thirsty and she drinks the blood from the blood tube was really good.
I don't like that Elena is being so mean to Damon, since I love his character! I really enjoyed how Caroline started to threaten Damon and how she told him that she remembers all the stuff that he did when she was human! I loved the second last scene between Matt and Caroline! It was really sweet of Matt to reveal his feelings to her, and how she controlled her thirst by breathing in and out a few times. This really shows that she loves Matt, and that she doesn't want to kill him.
The last scene between Stefan and Elena was really cute and sweet, but they had to break the romance by saying the last couple of lines. I think that the fight between Mason and the other guy was really neat and very action filled. I loved how Mason's eye color changed, showing that he was really angry.
I really enjoyed this episode, and I can't wait till this weeks episode. It looks really good
The Vampire Diaries (2009)
Vampires never seen better!
I am a great fan of the twilight series, but I think that the Vampire Diaries is MUCH better! They do an amazing job with the cast, dialogues, special effects etc. I know that they don't exactly follow the books, but who really cares? I believe that the TV series is MUCH better than the books.
Everyone thinks that the Vampire Diaries copied Twilight, but if you've noticed, the books for the Vampire Diaries came out 15 years before Twilight, so obviously Twilight is the one that copied.
The Vampire Diaries shows many good things about vampires, that Twilight doesn't. The Vampire Diaries shows that the vampires can actually kiss their girlfriend without wanting to kill them. They can also go around in the sun, as long as they are wearing their ring. And whoever came up with the whole idea with shining in the sunlight, is very dumb...most stories about vampires are that they burn in the sunlight, not shine. I believe that the Vampire Diaries will go on for a long time, and I am very excited for the second season.
