Mei ren cao (2004)
Love story, Unique period and subject matter, Excellent cast
Sorry, but after reading the above review bashing the female. lead Qi Shu, I just had to comment. The ONLY reason I viewed this film is because Qi Shu was in it. I have been following her career since she was a popular model of age 17. She's a beautiful girl inside and out with a natural personality that everyone loves(accept the above reviewer of course, perhaps she's jealous?) Yes, she's from Taiwan and not from the native area of the movie's location. So what!, such things are not uncommon in films. The movie was quite enjoyable even with such flaws as although the story was supposed to have spanned over 30yrs, nobody aged? OK, aging making takes many hours to apply and is very expensive so they decided to skip it. The story and script was obvious, kinda Korny and lacking depth. This is often true with foreign films in my opinion. Being a major Qi Shu fan I was hoping for a little T&A since she is well known for nude modeling and was disappointed in that department. Oh well, I should expect that for a mainstream Chinese flick. For Qi Shu fans, she was adorable as ever so don't miss this film!
In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale (2007)
This movie filled the objective of providing entertainment
Much of what comes out of Hollywood these days is epic nonsense and this movie has also inherited from that trait however I was amazed at the number of user comments that horrifically bashed this film like a class of kids and wannabe critics. I agree there are many flaws that someone on a mission to criticize could sink their teeth into so if it is your intent to go to this movie for that purpose then I ask on behalf of the audience to keep your comments to yourself. It is apparent that the actors and crew on this film really did work hard and try to deliver a product of entertainment. The film was fine for TV but I would have expected more for one in the theater. The only character that was really bad was Duke Fallow who was extremely annoying but didn't ruin the whole film. I agree that it is not a great film but no where near as bad as many commenters have depicted it to be although I suspect it would have been that bad if not for the great cast. Overall I was entertained and if you're not a critic wannabe then go ahead and see it.
