Dune (2021)
Well done to all involved.
Excellent.
As a friend said, they did miss out a few good things which were in the book but what they left in was very well done.
The universe Frank Herbert crafted was vast and intricate. It must be difficult to condense this into a film. Perhaps a long series would have done it more justice. What we have, though, was close and very entertaining. I didn't think I would like my favourite character, Jessica as much as I did in the original film but Rebecca Ferguson did a terrific job. I look forward to seeing more of her.
I read all of the books back when I was a teenager (16 of them) and they had a profound impact on me thanks to my love and fascination of the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood (witches). The sixth book was all about them. It described that one of their main abilities was Minutiae Scrutinae. A training which allowed them to see every minute detail of their surroundings, a room or indeed of a person. They could see the slightest twitch or movement of a face and so became known as Truthsayers as they could see through lies. They observed everything.
I used to read in the street whilst walking to and from work. I was in Brighton whilst reading this series. One day, nose firmly stuck in this book, I suddenly noticed, atop the door of a pub I had walked by hundreds of times, the statue of a knight. This large knight held a shield to its chest and a sword thrust over the door.
My gast was well and truly flabbered. I had never noticed this statue. Here I was, reading about those who were trained to see all and I realised that, like most people, I was walking on auto pilot, with blinkers on.
From that day on, I practiced and ensured that I would always be observant.
So, Frank Herbert changed me.
As a friend said, I too am now looking forward to the Director's Cut of this film (potentially six hours apparently) and very much to part two.
Highly recommended.

Way Down (2021)
Entertaining.
Nothing particularly new or unexpected but entertaining throughout. No slow spots.
Recommended.

Torden (2020)
A slow burn which then became rather good but was let down with an abrupt, disappointing ending.

Jolt (2021)
Another one I didn't expect much from.
Well....
I loved it!
Kate Beckinsale is fantastic as always. It was nice to see the handsome Jai Courtney again and of course, the gorgeous Bobby Canavale.
The story was fun, funny and engaging.
Best line: "If he had a bigger Adam's apple this would really be working for me".
Worst bad funny bit: babies!
Hacks (2021)
Brilliant, engaging, creative, insightful entertainment.
It's official. I can't stop an episode from ending no matter how hard I think at the telly. :(
What an absolute gem of a show. I loved it. Bravo to all involved, especially #JeanSmart.
I'm ready for season two now, please!

Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)
I was thoroughly entertained.
Terminator: Dark Fate - I just finished the new film. I don't know why it received such negativity. Sure, it got a little bit cheesy once Arnold appeared but otherwise, I thought it was terrific. It had interesting characters (including our old favourite, Sarah), fantastic effects and some unprecedented fight scenes.

Thank you, James Cameron.

See (2019)
So disappointing. Requires that you shut down your logic and common sense rather than just suspend disbelief.
I gave it a try since I like Jason Momoa but it required not just a suspension of disbelief but switching off of logic and common sense.
There is no explanation as to how a virus not only made the surviving humans blind but their descendants for centuries afterwards. What sort of virus can manipulate DNA to such a degree?
Even though everyone is blind, they are waging wars and fighting in melee combat yet nobody is hitting their own kin.
One tribe uses horses and dogs despite silence being their greatest ally when blind fight the blind.
They can all run through forests without crashing into trees, one another or tripping.
Why are they fighting in the first place? With only 2M people left on the planet, there is ample for all.
Their attire. Wow. All very well put together with different colours, even crisp, clean white. How do they know about colours? How do they coordinate them? How do they stay so clean?
Their hair is all done well. They use jewellery and crowns despite nobody being able to see them. They even put on war paint. Why?
Their buildings are all symmetrical and perfectly built when they aren't squatting in caves.
Why aren't they living in the cities of before? Why the need to abandon all knowledge and technology and regress so far? They don't even believe in the sun, moon and stars any longer because, well, I've no idea.
Somehow, they've not only survived all predatory animals but even build and set down bear traps without killing themselves.
There was no crop growing shown. How are they able to feed themselves? How could they hunt?
A man builds a bridge spanning a chasm. By himself. In secret next to a tribe who have lived there for centuries.
The two 12-year-old special kids are quite obviously much older than 12.
They convey complex messages, even somehow by birds to far-off places, by putting knots in strips of leather. This also, somehow, teaches the two special kids how to read pre-apocalypse books.
There is no character development.
The scenery was gorgeous, yes. That was all.
So disappointing.
Bad Samaritan (2018)
Should have just been called Bad.
It might have been good if there hadn't been so many mistakes. :(
The Dark Lurking (2009)
Decent effects, terrible dialogue
I wish I hadn't paid the on-demand fee for this one.
As my title states, the effects were decent for a low budget film.
The worst element, however, was the ridiculous dialogue, particularly from one of the rescuees who whined and complained about everything rather than showing any fear or nervousness which would be entirely natural given the circumstances. I only kept watching so that I could see her get her come uppance.
I agree with the other comments about it blending aspects of Aliens and Resident Evil. Unfortunately, since it is so obvious it only serves to highlight how much this film is lacking.
Skip it.
