Mama's Family: The Big Nap (1990)
Season 6, Episode 15
4/10
Pretty Bland
29 July 2010
Sometimes sitcoms like to have fun with themselves, and "The Big Nap" is the worst example of this.

Mama starts having a fascination with detective movies, when suddenly she falls asleep and dreams she is a high brow detective herself!

The jokes don't work, the acting is obnoxious, especially Dorothy Lyman's high pitched version of a blonde moll. But, Vicki Lawrence is still here, and she steals the episode as usual with her comic timing, and her wit. It seems like she's the only one who gets the joke she's doing a parody. Beverly Archer is also good, but not great, in her sexy part.

Bottom line: one of the lesser episodes of the series.

Mama's Family: Positive Thinking (1983)
Season 1, Episode 12
8/10
Carol Burnett steals the episode
29 July 2010
"Postivie Thinking" really brings back the days of the original skit, starring Carol Burnett, and here's she back as her fame seeking, annoying Eunice.

She receives some positive thinking tapes from Buzz, and decides she has to get her life in order. Which brings her to her lifelong dream of being an actress, so she gets a very small part in a local play. Mama comes along with her to an audition, which is completely wonderful, as it shows the drama of the backstage, as the lead actress tries to steal all of Eunice's scenes.

A wonderful and funny episode that is a total flashback to the old days of the skits on The Carol Burtnett Show.

Better Then The Original, But That's Not Really Saying Much
26 July 2010
The first Rest Stop is cinema at it's worst, so when the sequel came along, I expected the same thing, horror trying to be art. Well, to say least, I was a little surprised.

The story follows the brother of the man killed in the first part, he decides to go to California to look for his brother and his girlfriend. He brings his girlfriend and geeky friend. Soon, the come upon the rest stop where the two people perished, and soon the same supernatural crap that happened in the first one starts happening to them.

First of all, this film actually wallows in the supernatural crap, so it's not annoying or confusing like in the first. The acting is nothing to scream about, it's not horrible. And while the story is still stupid and confusing (not to mention full of plot holes) it's still entertaining to a certain degree.

In the end, you can skip it, unless you REALLY loved the first.

The Golden Girls: Scared Straight (1988)
Season 4, Episode 9
10/10
Very Risky and Very Good
26 July 2010
The Golden Girls was known as a series that took no boundaries in their subject matter, and "Scared Straight" certainly shows they didn't care what they discussed.

Blanche's brother comes to visit, and she tries to set him up on a couple of dates. But, he reveals to Rose he is gay, and he doesn't know how to reveal it to Blanche. Then, complications ensue when her brother claims Rose and he slept together.

A really funny, brave episode that tackles the subject of homosexuality effortlessly, and fearlessly. There's also another storyline that is pointless; Sophia thinks she is going to die in 2 days, and no one takes her seriously. It is pointless and not very funny, but you can look over it.

Halloween (2007)

Unnecessary and Not The Good
12 July 2010
I am completely against remakes unless the original film was not very good, but could have been. Which brings me to Halloween (1978), a perfect film in every sense of the word. So, what would bring today's filmmakers to make a "re-imagining" of it? MONEY.

It takes the original story, adds a horrible back-story that involves stripping and spousal abuse, and then completely forces us through the movie with graphic, unnecessary deaths, including a brutal attack on a poor nurse. At least in the old films, the characters had an agenda, they weren't innocent middle aged people who couldn't harm a fly.

Rob Zombie should have also cast some people, who ya know, could act...instead of the local theatre amateurs, who curse there way through the film. But, the film was badly written and lighted as it was, so does it matter that much?

Mama's Family: Black Belt Mama (1984)
Season 2, Episode 12
3/10
Lesser Entertainment
12 July 2010
It's obvious the first 2 seasons of Mama's Family where less then satisfying, but Black Belt Mama was a tired excuse for an episode.

Mama gets robbed of her purse while walking down the street, and it just so happens Naomi has just become a karate expert, so she suggests to Mama, to take karate classes.

The entire episode is on one note. How Mama will be able to fight people in a ridiculous manner. Especially when she sees her attacker and that whole scene feels like a ball of hot air. Vicki Lawrence, who usually steals every episode, is not very good here. But, not as bad as Karin Argould, who was terrible...as usual.

GREAT episode!
5 July 2010
Another fantastic episode with the Girls!

Blanche's estranged daughter Rebecca comes to visit, and shocks her mother by telling her she wants to have a baby via artificial insemination. Blanche becomes angry at her daughter, and stays angry even when her and the girls go and visit a sperm bank.

The comedy in this episode is brilliant. Rue McClanahan steals the episode with her uproarious shocked mother, but the other girls also get some great lines as well, particularly Sophia. Bea Arthur and Betty White have some great moments as well!

Definitely a must see for any Golden Girl fan!

Great Episode
4 July 2010
Fantastic episode! Mama is the Church Lady president, and her term is about to come to an end. So, she decides to do anything to get her church ladies to elect her again, but soon Iola becomes a nominee, and the two start feuding, and debating.

A really fantastic episode!

Very funny, and very well written. Like most of the episodes, Vicki Lawrence, once again, steals the show with her quick wit and funny "old lady" humor. But, Beverly Archer also gets to shine more then usual, finding a harsh side to Iola. It's also very nice to see the two of them going at it over such things as "Las Vegas Night"...very funny!

Mama's Family: Alien Marriage (1983)
Season 1, Episode 11

Sort Of Good
29 June 2010
Even though the idiot producers clearly made a mistake and aired this AFTER Naomi married Vint, it's still a good episode.

Vint gets swaggered into a deal to marry a foreign woman, just so she can become a US citizen. Naturally, things don't go down well with Mama.

The story here is sort of all over the place, but the acting here is surprisingly good, especially by the saver of the show, Vicki Lawrence. The woman who plays the green cared wanting woman, is quite funny and works well with Lawrence. Except for some amateur histrionics delivered by Karen Arigold, the show is fine.

Mama's Family: Vint and the Kids Move In (1983)
Season 1, Episode 1

Not very great for a first episode
27 June 2010
The best was yet to come for Mama's Family is all I can say for the first 2 seasons. The program was somewhat out of wack, with unnecessary characters and unfunny plot lines.

The first episode shows that Thelma Harper's spinster sister Fran has been living with her for awhile. Soon, it becomes obvious that her son Vint is going to move in with his two children, because they have lost their home from having no money. Also, Naomi, the next door neighbor shows up to talk with Vint about old times. AND, Betty White makes a surprise visit as Ellen, Thelma's daughter, to help her clean out a messy room.

Yeah, the first episode is nothing to scream about, but Vicki Lawrence is great in the first episode, perfectly establishing her character for the best is yet to come.

The first great episode
27 June 2010
While the first episode of The Golden Girls is a bit confused, the second episode really is a winner.

The episode follows Dorothy's daughter as she is about to get married. Soon, her daughter announces she wants her dad/Dorothy's ex husband to be at her wedding. Which eventually Dorothy causes to have anxiety since this is her first time seeing her ex-husband ever since they divorced.

The comedy in this episode is great, and the real standout here is Bea Arthur. She really steals every scene she is in, with her bottled up anger she has against Stan.

A terrific episode!

Ridiculous and Boring
26 June 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Why this movie was made is really unexplainable. It adds nothing to the world of film, other then if you're standing outside, you will more then likely be shot.

Mel Gibson has as much acting ability as your nearest broom, and the rest of the actors are so cliché, it becomes more camp then drama. What exactly is this movie wanting me to believe? A woman who is supposed to be a terrorist, but everything is a lie, but suddenly becomes the truth? Makes absolutely no sense, any of this movie. Including a character the keeps appearing out of nowhere, who is a cross between a spy and a faith healer.

Also, it seems like a rip-off of Taken (2009)...a much better movie.

Why Did I Force Myself Through This?
17 June 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Well, I can answer my own question: Lita Ford. Being a huge Lita fan, you can imagine my shock when the movie barely even mentions her. I mean, seriously. She is merely reduced to the background, and when she does get to speak up it's complaining and whiny. And I just urge people not to think Lita was anything like this. I do have to say the young actress, Scout Taylor Compton did impress me as Lita, as she does resemble her.

So, the movie. Well, it's incredibly fast paced for the Twilight generation who can't take a scene lasting more then a minute. Michael Shannon is incredibly over the top. Kristen Stewart needs to take up another profession, as her performance here really shows the girl has zippo talent. Dakota Fanning is very good, but most her acting relays on how much she can look blind sighted. But, mostly the movie wants us to look at two teenage actresses naked or looking provocative for 2 hours. I mean, was the scene where Jett is naked in the tub reading a book really necessary? So, I may be a bit biased since the woman I consider to be one of the best singers/guitarists of all time was completely shunned out of a story that was somewhat about her, but Lita didn't want to be apart of such a project anyways. And can you blame her? After watching this trash, I can't.

Worst Episode Of The Series
14 June 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Where were the writers going with this crap? I'll try to review it: A detective shows up and says Sophia is being accused of burning down Shady Pines many, many years ago. First of all, they have absolutely no evidence, just a death bed confession. So anyone with a brain can figure out, that's not legal.

So, anyways, a lawyer comes to ask the girls questions, then we get 2 hours of absentminded clips that have already been covered in Golden Moments in Three On The Couch.

The writing is simply incredibly stupid. At one point, Sophia tells everyone she is going to run away to Sicily...cut to pointless flashback! The actors have nothing to work with, so their performances suffer.

Basically, skip this episode of this perfect series!

Pointless
11 June 2010
Warning: Spoilers
What the heck was the point of this movie? Don't let your husband go off the navy because your life afterwords will be horrible? First, the good: Jayne Mansfield. She's not amazing in the movie, but she carries the movie and her material. I also think she had a bubbly personality which was present in most of her scenes. Again, nothing amazing.

Now, the horrible: For 75% of this movie, we find ourselves trapped in a bad Twilight Zone episode where we learn the bad material problems of an ugly couple named Flo and Charlie. Some of the worst storyline and acting I've seen. Especially from the woman, who even wears a pillow under her shirt for "old fat woman" cliché. Oh and what causes most of their problems? Charlie doesn't want to be a fisherman like his old lady Flo. Oh the humanity...

Skip this one, unless you love Jayne Mansfield....a lot.

What Exactly Was The Point?
1 June 2010
So, I just got done watching this unending movie, and was just wondering what was the point? Many pointless scenes just thrown together and make absolutely no sense. Sam Rockwell does a good job, but his unneeded accent got on my nerves. Little Mischa Barton is just as bad as a kid, she needed a good acting coach even then. And don't even get my started on the story...it's literally all over the place! If you like pointless movies about weird people, then this is for you. It has potential, but ruins it with the story and incredibly weird scenes. I mean, what's the deal with Angie Harmon in this? So we could see her naked? PLEASE! So, if all you "fans" could explain it to me, I'm here.

The Golden Girls: The Engagement (1985)
Season 1, Episode 1

Golden Girls Off With A Hit!
17 April 2010
The most brilliant comedy series in history, The Golden Girls, starts off with an impressive and hilarious first episode.

The very first episode deals with Blanche, and her engagement to a suspicious man. However, it's really Dorothy, Rose, and the introduction of Sophia that steal the episode.

This first episode is crucial, because it makes us realize who these women are. Dorothy is intelligent and sarcastic, Rose is dimwitted, Blanche is sexy, and Sophia is grumpy. All are explored in this classic first episode.

The only complaint is Coco, who thankfully was written out of the series after this episode. His character goes nowhere, and is borderline offensive.

The WORST Movie Ever Made
25 March 2010
Warning: Spoilers
You may hear this a lot, but this truly is the WORST movie ever made. EVERYTHING about it, is just plain awful. First of all, they got all the facts wrong with the story. Number two, they filmed it with what looks like a cell phone camera because the cinematography is awful. The acting is like watching your friends drunk. And don't even get me started on how horrible the direction is, which feels like, again, your friends drunk. I've never seen a movie before that was just plain awful in every aspect. Oh and by the way, anyone familiar with this story, or just has a brain, will realize now rats where used in the killings, which sounds stupid just saying.

INCREDIBLE Movie
25 March 2010
Mysterious Skin, is simply, an incredible film. From the acting, to the direction, to the writing, to the cinematography, to the music, this movie is perfect. The story follows two 18 year old boys, with two different lives, who finally come together to experience they have met in the past. Joseph Gordon Levitt gives one of the best performances ever put on screen. There is always something going on behind his eyes, and we know this, and the results are for an incredible performance. Brady Corbet, Michelle Tracthenburg, Elizabeth Shue, Jeff Lincoln, and Mary Lynn Rasjub, in a very small role, give incredibly solid work as well. Greg Araki's direction is amazing, as he always keeps an eye on everyone. A disturbing movie to be sure, but one of the best of all time.

Pink Angels (1971)
10/10
Entertaining, Hidden Gem
2 March 2010
The Pink Angels is a very strange movie. I'm guessing that the filmmakers of this movie probably wanted to make some sort of satire based off of Easy Rider.

But, The Pink Angels is completely original, and very strange. The story revolves around six bikers who are on their way to Los Angles. We don't know why they are going, but we do know they are a typical biker gang. Soon, they have a food fight, and we learn that they are...gay, and they are on their way to a drag ball in LA.

The Pink Angels works as a comedy. It is funny, and the more dramatic parts (like the ending) work fine on their own, but like I said earlier, I think the producers wanted to make some parody movie of Easy Rider, because in a way, it's just like it.

But, there are a lot of good things about the movie. The acting is top, the production values are surprisingly good, and the folk music that plays sounds like Don McLean's less talented little brother, but it still fits in fine with the atmosphere for the movie. I like that Pink Angels, took a risk and did something different, showing a group of gay bikers and how the "man" is coming down on them.

Cops (1989–2023)

The Best Reality Show Ever
28 December 2009
Quite easily the best reality, and realistic show ever to be shown on television.

"Cops" will give you a good idea of what the tough life of America is actually like. I remember one episode where a woman is falsely accused and it reminds me of how flawed this country's law is actually is.

But, it's funny, dramatic, and exciting. You never know who you're going to see! So, it's not for the close-minded, but it's still a brilliant reality series that will remain a staple in pop culture.

By the way, my favorite episode ever was where the cops are called when a crack dealer doesn't get her money.

Incredible show!

The Forgotten (1973)

Quirky Strange Fun!
25 December 2009
Young, ambitious nurse Ms. Charlotee (Rosie Holotik) is sent to work at a mental asylum out in the middle of nowhere. During the course of 3 days, she encounters strange happenings, even a patient in her bedroom watching her, yet she still stays. The mental patients are all a little eye rolling (espically by the Judge), but my favorite was the old crazy biddy (Rhea MacAdams). The storyline is okay at best, and the acting is surprisingly alright, but after awhile it's gets to be a little much. But, still it's fun, quirky, strange, and original.

Note: The thing inside the basement is hardly horrifying, so the title is a little bananas.

Another Overrated Mess
25 December 2009
I'd really love to see a "professional" critic, give a good film a good review. Up In The Air is a...mess. In every definition of the word.

The story is borderline pointless, the acting is terrible, and the direction is amateur.

I'll stick with the acting. George Clooney literally is sleepwalking in this movie. Does he even bother to change his accent or mannerisms for a role, or does he think we'll believe anything his horrible self does? Vera Famiga is doing the only good acting in the film. But, her role is pretty worthless, and she gets forgettable in the black hole that is this movie.

And finally, Anna Kendrick. She is HORRIBLE. Her performance is so BAAD, she deserves a Razzie this year. Her accent is uneven (one scene she sounds like she's from Canada), when she cries she looks ridiculous, and finally she doesn't even seem smart enough to play something like this.

Just please, do yourself a favor and don't believe the hype that is this movie.

Pulp Fiction (1994)

Could Be Most Overrated Movie Of All Time
25 December 2009
Pulp Fiction is often considered the coolest and greatest film of all time. But, the people who usually say this are pretentious film snobs and people who think this is something extraordinary. Excuse me, it isn't.

First of all the film has NO plot. If a film has no plot, then why should we care about the unlikeable characters? Second, the diagloue is so....BAD. Does the director think people actually talk like this, because, well they don't.

Third, the grossly, glamorous violence, is disgusting. This isn't a horror film, so why do we need such violence popping in and out of the movie? So, I urge everyone to avoid the hype of this pretentious, terrible mess.

A failure
24 December 2009
If you are going to make a film about 9/11, you need to at least focus on the actual even then rather showing stock footage for 2 minutes, then the building suddenly falls. For the next 2 hours, we get to see Nicholas Cage (one of the worst actors in history) scream and wail in darkness.

Oliver Stone has obviously wanted to make some fast dough on the tragedy that is 9/11, and this is a complete failure from the get go.

There is no reasoning to why these firefighters are being spotlighted on, and it seems kinda pointless to do the movie in complete darkness. I mean, the film goes on and on and on and on and on and on, until you just can't take it anymore!

No plot, no substance. And this movie even links 9/11 to Iraq!!

So, please, skip it.
