Inheritance (2020)
Not. even. interesting.
I agree with the negative critiques others have voiced here, and the plot holes - they are very spot-on. My exasperation with this story is that the father left no information to his daughter about her "inheritance", so she didn't know what she was dealing with. AND it turns out that her fancy-pants mother knew all about this monster? How stupid is that, really. "So, here's your million bucks and, by the way..." The mother should have been the one tasked to deal with this family "problem", not the clueless daughter. I still don't understand the BS that everyone kept repeating that her father was very proud of her, because she really got shafted by himz.
Pieces of Her (2022)
My aching head! Painful to watch.
Love Toni Collette. I do agree with those reviewers who said that everyone, and I mean everyone, was so dulling expressionless. Andy Oliver - the daughter - was one dimensional. The men casted were very handsome. I don't know who they are, but they all looked alike to me. I was mixing up one for the other. Nice to see Terry O'Quinn.
Babamin Kemani (2022)
I laughed, I cried, I enjoyed
I unapologetically loved this movie. The actors were believable without being over-the-top. The music was incredible. Of course, the scenes of the neighborhoods of Istanbul were breathtaking. After having watched many Turkish series and movies, I have to say there is something so heartwarming about Turkish child actors. Someone suggested to me it that may be that the atmosphere on the set is one of a "family" so that the children don't feel as if they're acting, that it feels familiar and natural. Whatever it is, I truly like it. I did not once get distracted and fast forward through scenes, I wanted to watch every emotion, listen to every bit of music.
Neoneun Naeui Bom (2021)
What happened to the plot?
What I thought was an interesting plot took a turn in midstream and never came back. I am so disappointed. As a viewer, you go down the rosy path the writers have taken you, introducing you along the way to attractive actors and good acting, with the incidental subplots being their relationships. But these "subplots" take over the show. The mystery you thought you were watching turns into a cutsie relationship soap opera. Again, I am so disappointed.
Zone blanche (2017)
Save me from Season 3
I pride myself on finishing what I start. I could not wait for Season 1 to finish. To my dismay, Season 2 awaited me. Having just viewed two other French forest-themed shows, La Fôret (The Forest) and The Chalet and finding these so compelling, with a plot one could follow, I found Zone Blanche's story meandered. The cinematography, to my unprofessional eye, was horrible. Scenes were dark, even with lights on in an office or home. All of it was shot in a blue-gray-black tinge making it difficult to make out what was on the screen. Heck, I mostly saw my own image on the iPad! When suspenseful music would play loudly, signaling there was something to see here - there was nothing to see. I ended up skipping ahead, except when the prosecutor character, Siriani, was on the screen. He was excellent! I was wishing the characters would get out of the perpetual mud and rain and also wished the Major would wash and brush through her stringy hair. The police force was total grunge - which one would perhaps expect from undercover cops, but not this police force. Oh, and I absolutely adored "Teddy Bear".
La forêt (2017)
Awfully good. I want more!
I found the twists and turns in this story drawing me in. Even when taking a break from the show, I was thinking about it, trying to solve the mystery. But, as I found out, there was more than one mystery that this idyllic village held. I felt, as did at least one other reviewer, that the acting/writing of the female cop "Virginie" was too much. I do think her boss should have taken her off the case.
For me, there was a loose end in the backstory of Manoa. Or maybe that's all there was - a loner mountain man.
Hatirla Gönül (2015)
Brought out a range of emotions
Watch out, as whoever wrote this story has intimate knowledge of or experience with an abusive sociopathic relationship, either as a victim or a counselor. I had just watched another, my first, Turkish series and really enjoyed it, so I thought I would try another. This one was definitely "darker". At times it was really, really hard to sit through and gut wrenching. Great casting and acting, I wanted to smack the doctor (Tekin) more than once. I wanted to shake Gönül to her senses. I loved the screen times of Mahmood and Hilmi. The ending suggests perhaps a Series 2?
Unforgettable: Throwing Shade (2014)
Eliot made this story.
Although I have become hooked on "Unforgettable" and the show's highlighting Carrie's remarkable talent for memory recall and how then the "mystery" is solved (I know at this point you want to scream at me, "it's 'Unforgettable' stupid!"), this is now my favorite episode yet. It truly moved me and held my attention and it was all because of Eliot. I really enjoyed seeing more of him. I don't recall him being the focus of any other episode. I was taken with his demeanor, his style and especially his dry wit. I saw a larger range of his personality and private life. His sensitivity with his wife at the end was an especially touching scene, sharing the pie on the stoop, looking for a fresh start. I would like to see more of his character developed in upcoming shows. Encore to the writers. Maybe in the future we will know a bit more of the M.E.'s (Jane Curtin) background too?
