Cars 2 (2011)
What happened??
I am a huge fan of Cars. One of my all-time favorite films. Great storyline and overall just a fun movie to watch. There is an old cliché about sequels not being as good as the original and this movie lives up to that cliché.
I had heard about the story involving espionage and spies and all that but I had no idea that all of this overshadows much of what the first movie was about. Racing. There are so few racing scenes in the movie and the ones that are there are unfortunately overshadowed by thugs and gangs who have a master plan to sabotage the World Grand Prix. In fact I thought that there were some scenes that were a bit much in many cases involving character death. Death in G-Rated movie!? Come on Disney! This isn't 007, its Cars! I think they got far too carried away with the whole Spy Storyline and tried to turn it into a Jason Bourne or James Bond when it should have been Cars.
In addition to the spy story being a bit much, there are just a few scenes that I was a bit uncomfortable with. For example at the beginning of the movie Lightning yells at Mater and basically tells him to get lost. I'm sorry but that was just terrible. In fact the whole movie revolves around Mater basically being an idiot. Again I was a bit disappointed with all of that.
This sequel also seems to shun some of the Radiator Springs characters. Sally, Sarge, Fillmore, Flo, Ramone, etc. might as well have not been in the movie at all. They had such few lines, I thought some scenes had been cut out of the film for time purposes. And just like the first Cars movie there are some professional racing drivers in this movie. Jeff Gordon, Lewis Hamilton, Darrell Waltrip and David Hobbs are great but again not nearly enough lines for any of them. This, I guess, goes back to the lack of racing in this film.
This film does provide laughs and entertainment like the original but I'm sorry as a Race Fan and as a fan of the original Cars I was deeply disappointed.
The Last Airbender (2010)
Does not capture the same drama that the series did.
I just finished watching The Last Airbender and I have to say I was honestly very disappointed. I was so excited to see the movie but I now regret the fact I paid for a movie ticket. First all of the bending looks so much more difficult than it does in the cartoon. It takes every bender of every element about 10-15 seconds for them to start controlling their elements. In the series every bender could almost instantly control an element. Another thing is that they seem to under-use all of the bending. There are several scenes in which you remember similar scenes from the series and think that you are about to see an epic bending battle but instead the scene consists of fist fights. There are some great bending scenes but the director did not seem to use them as much as they could have. The biggest problem I have with the movie though is that it does not even come close to capturing the same drama and the emotion that the cartoon did. Those who have seen the cartoon will know what I mean when I say that the cartoon is so much more dramatic and the characters show much more emotion in the animated series. None of the actors from the movie capture the same drama and emotion as the characters did in the series. The fight scenes also seem to lack that same drama that the series had. One more thing that I was disappointed by was that in the series the creators of the show always showed Aang's flying bison Appa as one of the main characters and not just a flying vehicle. In the movie he is exactly that: a flying vehicle. Overall I have to say I was very disappointed with the movie. It does not at all capture the same emotion and drama that the series did. I know they will probably make a 2nd and 3rd movie but I will not be wasting my money on tickets for either of those. There are some who are fans of the show that may like the movie but chances are if you were a big fan of the show you will not like the movie.
Glenn Martin DDS (2009)
This show is sick!!!!
I watched an episode of this show on Nick and it was the most disgusting piece of garbage that I have ever seen on Nick. I can't believe that Nick would even show something like this. I don't even know where to start. The clay animation that is used for this show looks gross and it almost looks like that mess of a show Robot Chicken that Cartoon Network likes to air. Aside from that the content in this program is just awful. In an episode I saw a guy get stabbed in the eye with a knife and they showed blood spurting out of his eye. Then they show a guy get gasoline poured on him and he burns alive. Then a tiger swallows half his body while the other half is shown hanging out of the tiger's mouth. I also saw a boy stick his head in the butt of an elephant. Yes an elephant. While this goes on a crowd watches and they start to throw up. Vommit is clearly shown coming out of about 5 or 6 peoples mouthes. And while all of that was going on they even had the presence of mind to play a laugh track like something was supposed to be funny. None of it is funny, it's just sick. And it's on Nick. I would expect something like this to be shown on Adult Swim or something. The person who allowed this to be shown on Nick needs to be slapped. Nick has really gone downhill in the last couple of years but they have hit an all time low by showing this sick, pathetic excuse of a show!
iCarly (2007)
Provides few laughs and totally inappropriate.
The first time I watched this show it was OK. There were some funny moments and I laughed a couple of times but this show is getting worse and worse. Carly and Sam's web show is NOT the least bit funny. They play a stupid video from the internet, scream at the camera and make some very bad jokes. And then the laugh track goes off?! One problem with the show is that none of the main characters are funny. Carly is not funny. Miranda Cosgrove's acting is lackluster at best. Her acting in this show is nothing like her acting from Drake And Josh. Her friend Sam is very rude and crude and the show is written in a way that makes her look like some kind of hillbilly. I mean they make jokes about her mom driving a rusty old truck, her mom smashing an old TV with a bat, and then there's the jokes about Sam failing in school, getting detention all the time and running from cops. None of that is funny at all. Then there's Freddy who is a computer geek. He isn't too funny unless his Mom is treating him like a baby. The show's only somewhat funny full time character is Carly's brother Spencer. He makes some funny jokes and does some pretty funny things like pretending to drive a space ship while making spaceship noises, knocking over a girl scouts' cookie table for revenge as they did the same thing to him. His material is the only thing worth laughing at. Aside from the characters other things make the show bad too. Like the fact that a couple of kids doing a local web show from a Seattle apartment is a worldwide hit and got them a free trip to Tokyo? Another thing is that how can a 26 year old single guy with no real job can pay for a 2 level apartment in downtown Seattle and raise his 13 year old sister and pay for a room full of camera and sound equipment including a remote controlled projector and a green screen and an HD camera? This sounds like it was written by a 10 year old. The worst thing is that the show contains some pretty questionable content. There are a couple of times when Carly(remember a 13 year old girl) appears on her internet web show in a bikini top. WTF? Then I saw an episode where Freddy tells Carly and Sam that he "slept in JUST his socks the night before." I mean WTF? Then there's an episode where Carly's rival Nevel blackmails her by taking her website rights and agrees to give her the website back in exchange for a kiss. Creepy! And I just saw an episode where Carly meets a boy who just moved into their apartment building and he has some kind of back injury and he takes off his shirt and Carly stands there drooling over him. I can't believe Nick even lets them show that kind off stuff and I can't believe that this was created by the same guy responsible for Drake and Josh. This show is not appropriate for kids under the age of 12 and that's even questionable. iCarly is just another addition to the long list of awful Nick programming.
