Loveland (2022)
Why does this movie need to exist?
I rarely write review for films but, as an Australian filmmaker, I had to. Someone has to be honest and call it out when one of our Australian films, for a lack of better word, sucks.
In summary, it was bad. It gave nothing for the audience to hang onto, maybe except for some mediocre low budget VFX visuals. So with the slow pace and nothing to go for, it was excruciating to sit through the film keeping an open mind that it might get better, which it didn't. I was cringing as they whisper talked to each-other through the whole film, as if that would give their dialogue more depth. But there was not depth in the content of the dialogue.
While in Australia it is celebrated as another great work of Ivan Sen (actually he is a very good filmmaker), there are many flaws that should have been seen even in the screenplay, especially by those who gave the funding and support to the film. The biggest flaw was; why would the audience care for Jack? He is loser, not relatable, and he kills random people for a living, and he's not very good at it either. I could care less if he died from his condition (whatever his condition was).
I could go on and on, but I want to wrap it up with one question; 'Why does this movie need to exist?'. And the answer is it doesn't.
With all that negative, I know the director is fund of sci-fi genre, so I hope this was a great practice so his next sci-fi film will not suffer the same flaws.
Innuendo (2017)
Good story but the zero budget shows
Innuendo is a low/zero budget independent film that can keep you entertained throughout the whole film if you are ok with films with low production value. This is thanks to its well written story which is its strength. But then it is let down by the moments that really show the lack of budget, and these moments are enough to take you out of the film.
The film is cast of some practicing actors and some amateurs, and while this can work well on some films, in this case the good performances of the leading cast are overshadowed by the lacklustre performances of the supporting cast and the extras.
All low budgets independent films are a mammoth task to complete, so what this film has achieved with the low budgets is commendable. I'm surely if the key creatives had more time and budgets they could've done much better. And I look forward to their next project.
The Message (1976)
what's the complain for?
Many complain that this movie doesn't depict as much as it should, or isn't brave enough to show us more of Mohammad than it already has or etc.
Well, firstly i think that this movie is the best way of introducing Islam to those who stereotypically think of it as a religion of violence.
Secondly, the script and the story went under huge study by scholars to make sure that it does not violate Islamic rules in any manner. i don't think there will be a braver person who can make another movie like this or even close to this without awakening the extremists and causing big fights between them.
We should congratulate the director and consider this as a huge achievement by the Muslim director who managed to get this film produced with such a high standard in Hollywood (where most of the movies are now against Islam).
so 10/10 for the movie and what it achieves and the amount of effort and risk they took to get it produced.
