Hollow Man (2000)
10/10
Dutch Pride: Paul Verhoeven
16 March 2003
Our Paul Verhoeven is one of the best in science fiction (think Robocop, Total Recall, Starship Troopers) and Hollow Man is his latest entertaining masterpiece. Kevin Bacon is always good in mystery-films, either sf, horror or thriller (Tremors, the River Wild, Wild Things, Stir of Echoes) so there just had to be a film with those two together. Therefore my opinion is that Nobody could have made a better modern version of The Invisible Man than Verhoeven en nobody could have done the role of the crazy but genius doctor than Bacon. See you around, or not...

Spin City (1996–2002)
too bad Michael had to leave
9 March 2003
When I realized that 'friends' was drowning in it's own success, I started watching NewsRadio and Spin City, realizing that these are even better. It's too bad that Big Mike had to quit, and nobody can replace him, but Charlie is filling the void better than any other actor could. they should have given him the same personality as mike, because, despite some differences, it's almost as if there are two Stuarts now.

It (1990)
1/10
bad, worse, it
9 March 2003
Warning: Spoilers
the book has thrilled me for many evenings and nights, so I wanted to watch the movie. But; what is this? This is horrible! One of Kings most gruesome books has been transformed to a story for children (rated 12+, I think it's PG)!! this will not stand!! That stupid clown is nothing compared to what It is in the book, and making It look like a giant spider at the end is just too bad for words, creating a monster that looks like a spider is plain dumb cashing in on an old human fear and not worthy a King-film. They lost most of the good scenes, reduced good scenes to bad or dull scenes and the 'deep thinking' of the book (It being an alien that landed thousands of years ago, other good aliens (the giant turtle), the cruel history of the town) are completely gone. If you liked the book, I don't think you should watch this piece of crap.

Mars Attacks! (1996)
10/10
short but everything you have to know
9 February 2003
This is the best science-fiction comedy and one of Burton's best movies. The only one's who mustn't see this movie are people who hate pure-celebrity movies and people who don't have any sense of humor. Need I say more?

Dinotopia (II) (2002)
10/10
I have never been more jubilant about mini-series (or a four-hour movie, whatever you prefer)
28 December 2002
I saw the first part of Dinotopia on television. In advance, I knew nothing about it, and I thought it would be just another cheap movie with horrible effects and only a few dinosaur scenes. I have never been that wrong! Dinotopia is a gripping story with splendid animation, I have immediately bought it on video! The movie contains marvellous landscapes, introduces some new ideas about dinosaurs (the ability to speak, intelligence, the way they survived extinction), is filled with magnificent music and contains fascinating ways of human-dinosaur interaction. A must-see for almost everyone, since there are no gruesome blood-scenes. My points of comment:1) a total of four seconds bad acting, and 2) a couple of gaps in the script (however, very small). In contrast to Jurassic Park, this movie has very little scenes with flesh-eating dinosaurs. Dinotopia can count itself to the best dinosaur-movies ever (which is, even now, a disappointing small group), and is a movie I want to watch over and over again! Only he who is blind or deaf, doesn't like dinosaurs or adventure and/or wants to have killing action every second of a movie has to ignore this masterpiece.
