Eraserhead (1977)
Either you like or you dislike it
I watched the movie with a friend of mine. After half of the film he stood up and went away. He didn't like the film, he found it too boring, not exciting and it was just too weird for him. That's what I want to say, Eraserhead is no entertaining movie, it is not funny (apart from one scene) and it is not very thrilling. If you are the kind of a guy who just loves entertaining, amusing motion pictures, don't watch Eraserhead because you ain't gonna like it.
But if you are a guy who likes movies that make him think, movies that are impressive, movies that have plenty of emotional clever shots ... then you'll probably like Eraserhead. This film doesn't tell a straight story, it rather catches the viewer. There are no obvious scenes, all the pictures that you see are wrapped in mystery. You have to decode the impressions and the shots to get a message out of the film. But of course there is not a sole message, there are plenty of messages dependent on what kind of point of view you try to decode the impressions the movie gave you.
Just enjoy the movie and let the pictures affect you.
The Matrix Revolutions (2003)
It's all the same
After I had seen the second part of Matrix (Matrix Reloaded) I wondered why the script originally was designed for three parts - The first Matrix told its own tale, it was a nice, exciting movie with lots of good ideas and characters that fit into the film. But the sequel seemed to be attached to the first part and I didn't have the impression that Matrix was originally intended for three episodes.
In Matrix Reloaded you get all the things you already got in the original one - there is Agent Smith, not one but hundreds, there are Morpeus, Trinity, Neo, the oracle, the sentinels. But there is Zion, yeahh, one new invention.
After the poor second part I hoped that Matrix Revolutions would astonish us all, but I was wrong. Even the third part only seems to be attached to the first one. There are again all the same leading characters and on the other hand there are also plenty of new characters who just don't fit in. We have some Love Stories which are simply senseless and boring. There is agent Smith again, this time not hundreds but even thousands of him - what a brilliant idea.
The fights are also the same, you won't guess who is fighting whom. The sentinels, the machine city and the fields of humans which were already introduced at the beginning of the trilogy are also in the third part - come on Wachowsky brothers I want new creatures, new exciting shots, new ideas and new pictures. And by the way, the end is as predictable as it seems to be.
For me, it seems, that Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolutions are just poor copies of the first, original one and I just can't believe that the script was designed for three parts, because the ideas, incursions and vagaries are only enough for one movie.
Syostry (2001)
Very touching, true and well directed film!
I think this is a very good movie because it expresses the soul of Russia, the way I'm imagining Russia. There are not very long dialogs in the film, only very short and pointed conversations between people exists. Furthermore people very rarely laugh, the mood seems to be authentic Russian, with a little bit depression in it all the time.
The shots Sergej Budrov makes are also excellent, they are very impressive and get you in something like a state of trance. The acting is also good, from the cool Russian Mafia gangster to the two young sisters all actors play their roles convincing and no one is overacting.
So if you have about an hour time, go watch this fine Russian movie.
- In remembrance of Sergej Budrov -
Bad Boys (1995)
Boring movie with bad actors
I just watched the Bad Boys and I must say that I expected more. I hoped to see an exciting, thrilling action movie with good leading actors but my wishes didn't come true. The acting of Martin Lawrence is awful. During the whole film he is overacting and a pain in the neck. Will Smith is not much better, he tries to be the super cool, charming black hero who can get every woman.
The story is all the way predictable, after the first 5 minutes you know how the movie will end. So the story is not exciting, it doesn't astonish the audience, it is just boring and you always can easily guess what will happen next.
If you want to watch a senseless action movie better watch XXX because even this crap is better than Bad Boys. XXX has much better action scenes and no tedious leading actors.
