Definitely not what I expected
25 October 2012
I had to watch this film with subtitles as I'm not fluent in Dutch. I haven't seen the original version but after seeing this I intend to watch it to see how it compares.

I spent the entire film trying to guess who dunnit with my mind changing at every turn but never able to see the twist at the end. Yet on top of that twist there was another! I couldn't believe how well written it was. There were certain scenes that were filmed beautifully, there's a flashback scene of Mat where the camera does a 360 degree turn around him. You have to see it to truly appreciate it.

Overall it's definitely worth a watch, subtitles or no subtitles, a good film makes it easy to forget them. The characters are easy to pick up, yet complex enough to keep a good narrative going. You'll cringe, you'll laugh and you'll be hanging on the edge of your seat to find out who the murderer is.

A nice Happy-Go-Lucky film

There's no narrative to this film, and the closest I could go to describing one is saying we follow the optimistic Poppy in her day to day routine, her job as a primary teacher, her friends, family and her obscure driving instructor.

Poppy is nearly 30 and yet her positive view on life is almost contagious. The film begins with her getting her bike stolen, when she notices she laughs and then goes "oh no I didn't even get to say goodbye" then skips off home.

Mike Leigh has such an approach to film and this one is certainly hilarious and unique. A must see pick me up film.

Potential to be good, but that's all it has

Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed the beginning of this film I won't lie, but as it dragged on, the lack of a twist led the dull and obvious storyline to be one not to my liking.

I think the biggest let down for me was being a fan of Hathaway I thought she was wrongly cast for the role of Andy. She's a budding journalist who lands a job at a big fashion company and in order to fit in she feels she has to 'transform' into a fashionista. The big reveal was a disappointment, okay her previous clothes weren't cool, but somebody as hot as Anne doesn't need labels. Not only that but although some outfits (her blazer and wet look leggings look) were stunning, I found some were a let down. They also kept on about her weight which when she apparently dropped a dress size, was unnoticeable.

For me this film was a let down with even the romance narrative taking a backseat.

Won't be winning any Oscars but it might give you a few laughs

This film is just your typical Rom Com. An easy watch with a couple of punchlines to get you laughing. There's no effort to this film but one to chuck on when you don't feel like putting much thought into a film.

I also noticed that on second watch the film had a really good soundtrack. The storyline is obvious with two people getting married on a drunken night in Vegas and then regretting it. And there's obviously a Vegas win with money involved. Will the couple make it through the courts forcing them to live together? Well I think that answer is an obvious one, but with a fun journey on the way.

If you get a chance, watch it, but don't go out of your way.

Can't believe this show was cancelled
6 July 2012
When I watched the first episode of this show I had my doubts. The special effects let it down and when the two twins hugged the body double had hair that was a different colour. But by the end of the episode the storyline had me fully involved.

As the season progressed I got caught up in the whole thing, there were a few narrative strands that were a little dull but come the end of the season everything meant something in such a clever way. Each episode ended in a cliffhanger which had me watching episodes back to back. It was very addictive even in the weakest of episodes it would turn things around in the last five minutes.

I wish there was a season two of this as they ended the series with a variety of questions left. Due to the show getting axed I'm not sure whether I would recommend it because although you will most definitely enjoy all 22 episodes you're left wanting more, and there just isn't any more.

Don't get too disheartened if the beginning doesn't grab you, this film is great

When I first started watching this I didn't really think it was up to much. However as it progressed it certainly improved, making the storyline highly addictive. I did find that some points (mostly the agoraphobic scenes) were a little weird and could have been portrayed differently. But this didn't stray from such a strong narrative and perfect performance of Sigourney Weaver.

This film isn't a murder mystery, the murderer is clear from very near the beginning of the film, yet they still make the police hunt to finding him a real hook.

I would definitely recommend watching this film.

A good show, but not worth your time for just 16 episodes
30 June 2012
I watched this show for one reason and one reason only, Jason Dohring. It's not that I'm super fan girl over him, but heartbroken over the end of Veronica Mars he seemed the only character to go on to do another TV series. And what better than another private investigator one, even if this one does contain vampires.

I did find the story lines good and I easily got into the show looking forward to watching the next episode and seeing how things progress. However my biggest flaw to the show was the main love narrative. Can human and vampire really be together? I didn't hate this storyline because it's been done a hundred times, as every writer puts their own spin on it. No I disliked it because I didn't want the two main characters (Mick St. John and Beth Turner) to get together. The only way I can describe this as, is a bit like watching Twilight and being team Jacob. Although I personally did enjoy it other than the flaw I mention above I wouldn't recommend watching this as it was axed after 16 episodes so you get left half way through a season with unanswered questions and when the show felt like it was only just beginning.
