Holiday (2014)
Akshay Kumar steals the show
Holiday - A Solider Never Off Duty, an Akshay Kumar show all the way...
On leave from the Indian Army, Virat Bakshi (Akshay Kumar) is bride hunting and meets Sahiba (Sonakshi Sinha). Along with his cop buddy (Sumeet Raghavan) he catches a terrorist who is part of a sleeper cell. From then on, he is engaged in a cat-and-mouse game with a terror mastermind (Freddy Daruwala).
Firstly thank god Akshay Kumar has not done his stereotypical over the top comic act here. Akshay Kumar is probably one of the best action stars Bollywood has ever seen and he reminds us again why he is on the top of list. His character in Holiday is serious, smart, calm & composed. Somewhere in the film he reminded me of Special 26's Arjun. He steals each & every moment of the film. It's a treat to watch him in this avatar. It's difficult to imagine anyone else in the role. He sinks deep into the character of an army man. It feels like the role was tailor made for him. With this film he shows how versatile as an actor he is. I wish he chooses these types of roles over those so called "entertaining" & "comic" ones.
Why on earth (read Bollywood) do we need a heroine in a film like this? Sonakshi Sinha is one big flaw in Holiday. She irritates the viewers at regular intervals just like Kajal Agarwal did in Special 26 or more than her. She is like those commercial breaks which come during a nail- bitting cricket match. The romantic track between her and Akshay Kumar & the songs could've easily been chopped off from the film. This would make Holiday more interesting to watch.
Debutant Freddy Daruwala tries hard to be Vidyut Jamwal of Force but doesn't create much of an impact.
Sumeet Raghavan plays his part perfectly. Govida's cameo was entertaining but was needless in the film.
Despite there being several loopholes in the script director A.R. Murgadoss manages to keep the audiences glued to their seats throughout the movie excluding songs & the romantic angle. The film's story is nice especially the second hour. Also the film could've easily edited by 15- 20 minutes.
The scene where Akshay Kumar rescues girl hostages is the highlight of the movie. A special mention for the action director Greg Powell for doing a wonderful job.
I'll rate it 7/10. Holiday has flaws but is an enjoyable flick. Akshay Kumar takes the film to another level. Even non Akshay Kumar fans will love him in this avatar. Holiday A Soldier Never Off Duty is for both, classes & masses.
Special Chabbis (2013)
Serious Stuff With A Touch Of Lovely Humor!
Special 26... An amazing movie with a marvelous climax. One of the best movies of recent times.
A team of four fake CBI officers are involved in several raids. But this time they're planning something big. Will they succeed? Or the real CBI officer will catch them? To know you have to watch Special 26.
It's one of the best films of Akshay Kumar. I loved his 'catch me if you can' attitude. He doesn't beat up people on a go, nor he does any mindless comedy. He will make you fall in love with him by his calm and cool act. And there is not a single doubt about his personality, charming looks and enthusiasm. 'Kisi ki nazar naa lage Akshay Kumar ko'!! Akshay Kumar haters.... Here comes a kickass Akki movie.... So beware of barking next time when you even think of any nonsense for him. We need more such films from you Akshay Kumar.
Anupam Kher is outstanding as Sharmaji. His character entertains us in two shades. One, when he's serious raiding and second where he is a bit fearful & hesitant.
Manoj Bajpayee is stunning as 'the real' CBI officer.
Jimmy Shergill & Divya Dutta play their roles perfectly.
Kajal Agarwal has no scope of showing her acting skills as her character in the film was needless.
The supporting cast is perfect.
Hats off to Neeraj Pandey for such a wonderful direction. The film is set in 1987 and believe me you won't even figure out whether you're watching a 1987 film or 2013's movie. He has brilliantly written the script. It's so tightly written that you'll get glued to you're seat start to end. The first half takes some time to build up the characters where the second half is pacey.
The first fifteen minutes are too good when they raid at a politician's house.
If you're thinking that it's a serious movie, then let me tell you that it has a lovely touch of humor too. I've not laughed this much in any comedy movie of recent times.
There are only two flaws in the movie. One: songs are out of place. Two: bad computer graphics especially in the second half.
The music is average. Dharpakad is my favorite from the album.
I'll rate it 8/10. I request each and everyone to watch this flick. 'Asli power script mein hoti hai'! Unmissable!!!
Gangs of Wasseypur (2012)
Excellent Stuff!!
Gangs Of Wasseypur 2 is an outstanding film like the previous one, actually I wanted to watch both the parts together and then review it...
Manoj Bajpai had done an excellent job in part one.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui was good in part one and brilliant in part two. He has done full justice to his role, his character is dark and devious, at the same time he's romantic and funny, Nawazuddin plays it perfectly.
Piyush Mishra is superb in both the parts.
Tigmanshu Dhulia (Ramadhir Singh) is marvelous, I didn't even realise that it's his debut film.
Richa Chadda was fab in part one but doesn't have much to do in part two.
Reemma Sen and Huma Qureshi have done a nice job.
Zeishan Quadri (Definite) has played his role very nicely.
Aditya Kumar (Perpendicular) is superb.
Jaideep Ahlawat (Shahid Khan) in part one had done a very nice work.
Pankaj Tripathi, Raj Kumar Yadav, Vineet Kumar, Satya Anand, Vipin Sharma and Anurita Jha have played their roles perfectly.
Part one gives some very nice comic relief, Part two also has many 'lol' scenes. Actually I haven't laughed so much even in comedy movies of recent times.
Anurag Kashyap proves that he's an outstanding director. He should definitely get opportunities to make big budget films.
The sound is awesome and the music is superb especially in part one, Hunter, Bihar Ke Lala, O Womaniya & Tain Tain To To are my favorites from part one and Chhi Cha Ledar, Kala Rey & Electric Piya from part two.
I'll rate it 9/10. It's a 'MUST WATCH', excellent flick...!!!!
Joker (2012)
Horrible!!
Joker is a pathetic movie! Yeah believe me guys,I'm saying it myself!!
Wondering 'WHY' Akshay Kumar is doing these type of movies?? You are a lotus in a dirt pond, Akki!
Sonakshi Sinha, Shreyas Talpade, Minissha Lamba I mean rest of all are wasted!
Thank god Akshay Kumar backed out from the promotion of Joker as he was cheated by the director Shirish Kunder.
I just hate Shirish Kunder after watching Joker. How can a man just make this type of a ridiculous movie! It was because of his wife that he got two biggest stars of Bollywood in his two films, but he doesn't deserve biggies anymore!!
I'll rate it 3/10, no need to tell but if you're still thinking to watch then go ahead Joker is your flick! :P
Barfi! (2012)
Barfi! Is Magical!!!
Great concept and amazing performances make Barfi Stunning!!
Ranbir is flawless! Once again he proves it that he's the master of acting, before Barfi was released Rockstar was Ranbir's best and now Barfi is Ranbir's best till date...
Priyanka Chopra is marvelous!! She has given her best performance so far.
Ileana D'cruz looks lovely and plays her part perfectly.
Saurabh Shukla and Ashish Vidyarthi have done a good job.
The direction is superb, Anurag Basu takes Barfi at another level.
The songs are meaningful and are set in right places.
The movie could've been edited a bit but I loved the way it was.
I'll rate it 9/10 one extra star for Ranbir. Truly Inspirational and undoubtedly 'UNMISSABLE'...!!!!
Heroine (2012)
Worth a watch!
Heroine... Another hard-hitting film by Madhur Bhandarkar.
Kareena Kapoor looks gorgeous and has done a marvelous job, she's the best choice for the role, it's her best till date as an actress. She shows the dark side of Mahi Arora in the film very well.
Arjun Rampal, Randeep Hooda, Ranvir Shorey and Divya Dutta are first rate.
Shahana Goswami, Helen, Mugda Godse, Sanjay Suri and Lillete Dubey have perfectly played their roles.
The direction is good but there's nothing in the movie that we've not seen before in Madhur Bhandarkar movies.
The first 15 minutes of the film are slow. The second half of the movie is much better than first half.
I'll rate it 6/10, it could have been better but it's sure shot worth a watch!!
OMG: Oh My God! (2012)
OMG - Oh My God!... Must Watch For All Ages.
OMG Oh My God! Is a wonderful film with an amazing message that everyone should apply in their lives!
Paresh Rawal delivers an outstanding performance, one of his best till date.
Akshay Kumar is top notch you can't think of anyone to do his role in the movie.
Mithun Chakraborty is fabulous as a fraud preacher.
Om Puri, Govind Namdeo, Mahesh Manjrekar and rest have played their roles perfectly.
There are some glitches in the movie like abrupt camera work but it has nothing to do with the story or screenplay.
Grip makes a movie perfect; That's what happens here, you'll get glued to your seats start to end!
I don't know how the play was, but I simply loved the movie.
After Watching OMG! My religion is OMG! Oh My God!
I'll rate it 8/10 Unmissable especially for "so called" religious people wasting time, money, milk and oil at temples.
Rowdy Rathore (2012)
Rowdy Rathore = Solid Entertainment...!!!!
Rowdy Rathore is a 'Dkhamakedar' masala movie.....
Akshay Kumar...... 'OUTSTANDING' he proves that he's the master of action.... With his dialogues he shatters the theater, Awesome. He has brilliantly played the role of Vikramsingh Rathore...
Sonakshi is good but doesn't have much to do.
Paresh Ganatra and the rest are good.
The movie starts slow but the Interval point is earth shattering...!!!!
Because of the slow start I'll rate it 7/10 or else I would've rated it 8/10.... This movie belongs only to Akshay Kumar, (Vikramsingh Rathore and Shiva....)
Housefull 2 (2012)
Housefull 2 = Entertainment...!!!!
Housefull 2 is a solid entertainment....
Akshay Kumar steals the show, he's back with a bang with his first movie of the year.... He's stunning, fabulous and his signature expression was outstanding, loved to see him in his original avtaar, of being 'kaminaaa'...!!!!
John is improving movie by movie...
Ritesh & Shreyas have done a good job...
Asin & Jacqueline were good, rest of the two don't have much to do...
The four fathers were brilliant...
Johnny Lever & Chunky Pandey were average...
Ranjeet's cameo was wow...
All the songs were good...
Akshay Kumar's entry was awesome..
This one is better than Housefull...
The scene with Python and Crocodile was stretched...
I would've rated it 6/10 but it's Akshay Kumar who changed my mood... He was mindblasting...
I'll rate it 6/10...
