The Collector (2009)
Ridiculas(may be spoilers,...such a bad movie)
1.who the hell was the collector? 2.what was his motive? 3.exactly why does he collect people?if only for his sadistic pleasure, then what is his selection procedure?because not everyone is worthy of his "collection"! 4.why does Arkin ever came back?would any sane person ever risk his own life and family over someone else's kid?anyway you could argue it was morally right,well..sure..but was it the best choice,i don't think so.... 5.why does no one listens to Arkin?whenever he tell someone not to do something they do exactly that leading to a twisted death, its frustrating but also if u think about it later its kind of hilarious. 6.in the first scene, tell me would you have opened a strange box that u found suddenly appeared in Ur house in middle of the night?specially if it is making noise......911,anyone? 7.when the collector is down why on earth does not Arkin makes sure he stays cold, why give him a chance, this i found to be a really done to death formula to keep the movie running 8.what is with the cliché ending?the last 10 or 15 horror movies i watched 90% of them had this f..cked up ending, evil prevails, and the efforts of the protagonist through out the movie prizes in his death or worse, why?who enjoys it,room for sequels? any takers?yeah, did'not think so...
Eoh-neu-nal-gap-ja-gi D-Day (2006)
Don't take other's word for it.
i found this movie to be absolutely intense, dark and interesting,
don't listen to the bad reviews, its just that not many have seen it and rated it,
it deserves a 7.5,creepy althroughout and ending is just superb, nail biting stuff.
if you like Asian horror, and if you can take unrelentingly intense film,go for it
you may keep in mind this is not typical gore fest or will be relying on shock value alone, this movie does so much more, the psychological part of the film is more gruesome, horror in this flick works on this level rather take a cheap way out like what the Hollywood is doing, and calling films like saw/hostel/midnight's mid train a horror film when what you are catered is pure gore and twisted sick bloody fest, although that has its own value as well this movie rather takes the subtler road.
watch it alone,at night,lights off
The Man from Earth (2007)
Brilliant, this movie will blow your mind
absolutely astounding, the script and the dialogs are of the highest class, story is something of an enigma, you have never seen anything like this.its very hard keep away from the spoilers as the movie is so thought provoking.but of course there are certain people who will not like it 1.people who watch movies for the Star actors 2.this movie does not have a single cgi effect 3.the scenery does not change at all 4.it is mainly about insightful thinking, not about much so called "action" 5.you have to be a bit aware of history and religions,of course the enjoyment does not rely completely upon that, but it will be an added advantage
so,there you go,But please keep in mind that you will be watching a brilliant thinking man's movie, not Transformers or Terminator
City Island (2009)
Wonderfully directed and Underhyped
I really wonder why is this movie so less known,i mean only 800 odd votes!thats bizarre, this is a brilliant movie.well directed and with some superb performances.especially from Andy Garcia.Im an Asian so it is understandable that most film goers are unaware of this movie as this brand of movies are less popular here and they do not get that much publicity, but what about other places?is it because perhaps it was poorly marketed?Because i strongly feel this movie deserves a much lager audience base.Characters are well portrayed and the story develops consistently towards an absolutely brilliant and worth anticipated climax. This is not what you can call a perfect example of a typical Hollywood brand of movie,it is different but it is refreshing, and is it certainly worth multiple viewing.
Inglourious Basterds (2009)
Brilliant,uncompromising,intense
First of all,i want to say there is a lot of film about WW2,but this is Quentin Tarantino's brilliant very own brainchild. In every frame you can feel his very own personal touch.he does not simply narrate,he tells a story,so vivid,so appalling that you will probably remember every scene, every minute expressions for years to come....yes it is that unforgettable.this is Quentin Tarantino's very own masterpiece. He is brutal when he has to be,but he is also sensitive.Unforgiving and stylish, trademark Quentin Tarantino.
And now for actors, hats off to each and every one of them, they are dramatically intense and also mysteriously humorous sometimes, the amazing thing about the them is you cannot label any single one of their performances as "average",they act out of their skin.A special mention must made for the performances of particularly Brad Pitt & Christoph Waltz, both of them are simply brilliant, you will be compelled re watch each and every scene they are in and I mean EVERY scene.
superb flow of storytelling, slapstick humour, amazing dialogues and bravery of the direction will keep you wanting more. This is a film you will remember a lifetime also tell your grandchildren to see in the years to come.
