The Pirates of Dark Water (1991)
Awesome.
I forgot all about this show untilll I saw it on Boomerang. Then I remembered the greatness. THe show was about this guy named Ren, and his two friends who are trying to find 6 treasures that will let them stop these evil stop called darkwater (kinda like intellegent oil). It had morals, and all that. Shame it was never resolved. A revival would be awesome... But if you want to see an ending, track down one of the copies of POD the video game, for either SNES, or Sega Genesis. I would say the Genesis one is better.
In Search of (2002)
I don't believe in half of the stuff on this show, and I think the rest is cool
This is your usualy paranormal, supernatural, government conspiracy show, but I found that this one deals with some things that are very interesting, and (scary thing) very true. They deal with the usual witchcraft, wicca, ghosts, devil being pure evil kind of thing. While they also deal with some other things I didn't even know existed. They were talking one time about two lions that were killing railroad workers in Africa (the Tsavo maneaters). Another time they were saying "Did Nikolae Tesla invent a death ray?" and they showed a laser the US military has devoloped. One thing that creeped me out was when they were talking about this artist from the middle ages (I think) who would take dead semi-decayed bodies, and bath them in melted wax. When the wax would harden, they would be perfectly preserved in that state, veins, artiries, organs, and all. Another creepy segment was "Can Science Bring Dead Things Back to Life?"(I personally don't think so). But they were talking about cloning, and how you will take someone's DNA, kill them, and then clone them. creepy. I don't believe in half of the shi* they talk about on this show (UFO's, zombies, curses) but the other parts (lasers, bringing dead things back to life, Tsavo maneaters) are pretty cool. Mitch Pileggi hosts, whose semi-creepy voice is perfect for the shows creepy atmosphere
The Savage Nation (2003)
Sa-vage! Sa-vage! Sa-vage! Sa-vage! Sa-vage! Sa-vage!
This show kicks more but than you could ever show. Michael Savage give political opinions about the world around us, and every word of what he says is right. I especially enjoy is "hollywood idiot of the week". This show needs to be on every day! Dr. Savage is a GENIUS.
Sairento mebiusu (1998)
I don't like anime, and I enjoy this show.
(spoilers) Silent Mobius has a simple story line. In the near future, there are weird monster esque things called Lucifer Hawks that are basically giving humanity a hard time. Tokyo forms the mystical something or other, a unique unit of police officers, all women, who also have weird powers. The show was one of those shows that tells a story, and ends after a certain time, not when show runs out of ratings. The animation is top notch, the character design is great, the writing is perfect, and the characters have more depth then any other animated show that I have seen. What is bad is that they stopped showing episodes of this truly great show on Tech TVs Anime Unleashed. If you can, watch this show. It has English on DVD, so those who don't know Japaneese can enjoy as well.
Captain Planet and the Planeteers (1990)
Trying to sabotage America's youth.
I remember watching this show (I was 4 last time, now 14), and found that... I saw a re-run a little while ago, and the entire point of the show came forward: this show was trying to destroy America. Americans are all portrayed as stupid, lugging, we-hate-the-enviorment slob types. It shows America as the enviorment's number 1 enemy, while everyone else in the world was trying to help it. I also agree with the person who commented on the paganistic undertoning of the show. I've been a Christian for most of my life, but become a born again Christian last September. Seeing a pegan goddess in this really disgusted me. They should strap POW's that know stuff into chairs and force them to watch this garbage.
Night of the Living Dead (1968)
Better than most of the horror junk of today.
I found this little jewel in a used video store for about $2. The story is about (spoilers) several people who are trapped in a farmhouse that is surrounded by carnivorous walking corpses. It is revailed that the corpses were brought back to life by radiation from a satelite falling to Earth from Venus. It is suspensful, scary, and the creepy. The special effects are dated. But it is muchhhhh better than any slasher i've ever seen. The farmhouse location was great. The fight scenes looked rather lame, but the fact that guns DID SOMETHING made it still more enjoyable. You will never guess the ending in a million years.
Splinter Cell (2002)
Kicks a** and takes name
This game is simply on of the best ever made (spoilers) it focuses around Sam Fisher (former Navy SEAL, now secret spy-esque operative for the U.S. government). Its impossible to say anything about the plot without making major spoilers though. The game play is unique becuase it presents you with several ways to solve each problem. Such as: you need to get into a room from outside. You can rapel down the side of the wall. You can slide down a pole and crawl into the vents, or go through the roof into a different vent. I would reccomend it for ANYONE. They NEED to make this game into a movie! (without ruining it, the way they have ruined sooo many games in the past)
GameSpot TV (1998)
Good, but Extended Play was better.
This video game show is good, but Adam Sessler's original video game show, Extended Play was better. This show gives less information, though has better special effects. Extended play was more streamilnes then this, and had more information per episode.
X2 (2003)
Good..... but two or so things dragged it down a bit
I saw this with a guy I know today, and heres my comments (Spoilers ahead) This guy named William Stryker, U.S. Army scientist, has been talking to magneto, and he is getting information about the mutant acadamey from him. This leads to a U.S. army strike against the mansion. A large number of mutant childeren are captured. And know, there are three or so more sub plots going on. I thought there were some problems with this flick. For one thing, it was tooooo long. It really needed a good editing. Another one was the fact that many, many U.S. solders get killed, and when you considere the events of the last few months, this might have some ramifications. I know its just a movie, but seeing wolverine put his claws through one of America's finest really hurt the overall score. 6/10 (end of spoilers)
Mail Call (2002)
One of the greatest ideas in the history of TV
I found this little show on the history channel, and found that it is simply great. THe premise is simple: You send them email, or letters regarding history of military. Then former U.S. Marine sgt. R Lee Ermey answers them. Simple, good, and always funny
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (2001)
Over rated, Predictable, and just plain bad.
My freind and I went out to see this movie a few years ago (long story. I had totally forgotten the movie untill I saw it was on some movie channel). Having seed the trailers, the animation looked incredible. But if only the rest of the movie was that good. The plot is entirely predicatble, in exactly what was going to happen (spoilers!) Earth has been mostly destroyed by evil alien ghosts (zzzz) and now, the people have two main choices: 1. Use the new super big laser cannon firing Zues space station, or follow some old scientist's find-the-spirits. I made a horror movie for a drama class that had a better plot. The same goes for the acting, with the exception of Steve Buscemi, who (I thought) was pretty funny. I understood all the message, and subtletie, and that. But the entire movie was just too predictable to be enjoyed. Also, one note, they made the villain (the bad guy that wanted to let the spirits into New York) cooler than the hero (Dr. who-gives-a-care-about-her-name?). Just as an inquiry. Who's idea was that? 1/5. If they started making new episodes of MST3K, this should be at the top of the list of movies to make fun of. I don't care about my spelling.(end of spoilers)
Centurions (1986)
Don't make 'em like this anymore
(spoilers) I remember when I was about 6 or so, I saw a few re runs for this show on cartoon network. Afterwards, I started watching the show regulary. The centurions was about 3 (5 in the later episodes) guys that were battling the evil forces of Doc. Terror (half man, half machine) and his companion Hacker, who was also half man, half machine. It was your standard 80's cartoon like (the greatest of them all) GI Joe. Every episode, Doc. Terror would have some new insidous evil plot, and the centurions would have to figure out how to stop it. I remember several of the plots very well. One was about (I think) a weather control machine, one plot was to stop this scientist that was like a chameleon, in that he could change color. Another episode was about a psychic/telekenetic high school student that got a hold of Centurion technology and was using it to exert revenge on people that had been bullying him. I remember after the show, they always had a science fact, or moral bit. One was about Saturn's rings, one was about the way that some lizards change color, so on and do forth. The show was great, im surprised that so few people have voted or made comments. (end of spoilers)
Mystery Science Theater 3000 (1988)
Why, why did they have to cancel it?
This was one of the best shows ever. Don't respond to this. Why did they have to cancel it? Why don't they make some big really expensive boxed set that has every episode of the show ever made? I would pay good money. This had to have been one of the funniest shows ever... Hey Sci-Fi! Put the reruns on really late at night before you go to paid programming! Or better yet, start making episodes again. I know they won't, but still.
Ghostbusters II (1989)
All the things that made the original great... and some more!
I saw this movie for sale cheap at the local Target, and having a passion for the original, I bought it. SPOILERS! This time, the ghostbusters have to stop a evil tyrant named Vigo (he is dead) from stealing Dana Barret's baby and putting his soul into it. I found that this plot was somewhat different from Gozar in the original, but it is enjoyable. I find the slime to be enjoyable, and Bill Murrays one liners are pretty funny (Suck in the guts guys, we're the ghostbusters). My favorite scene is the one with the toaster. Two quick notes: Vigo was much cooler then the evil god on the rooftop. And the Scoleri brothers are much cooler then Slimer. Question: Does Vigo control the slime? Seems like it. End of spoilers
Thunderbirds (1965)
.......... Interesting
(Spoilers) This show is being showed in re-runs on Tech TV, and I have found it to be interesting. Not in a positive, or negative way. Compared to todays standards, the special effects are dated. And the shows attitudes match the era (all women are portrayed as bad drivers) I like the story lines, and the models. A very notable thing I like about the show is the props. Like on Thunderbird 5, part of it looks, (to me) like to tin pie tins stacked on top of each other. I like the dials, and the like, they are all stove-top dials attached to whatever. Sometimes when the characters drilled through metal, you could tell that the "metal" is actually wood. Tech TV talks about the episodes, and history and the like. One time it talked about in an episode "Terror In The City" the US Army shoots down Thunderbird 2. People that have seen the episode please tell me why. (End of spoilers) I do really like the story lines, models, and sometimes fighting scenes between machines.
