Wild West Comedy Show: 30 Days & 30 Nights - Hollywood to the Heartland (2006)
Must See
I went to a preview screening yesterday and I must saw I was presently surprised. There was a negative review here and I thought it wouldn't be that good.
It was a great movie, and the serious side (as short as it was), made it even better. They give free tickets to Katrina survivors(although I'm disappointed that Vince didn't go out there with the other comedians and help hand out that tickets, he just took a photo after the show with some of the survivors), I think it was a poignant moment and helped to not make the movie just one continuous cavalcade of laughs. It's trying to show not only the human side of the comedians but of the audience as well.
One of the funniest moments is when one of the Katrina survivors, a young teen, recognizes Keir by saying,"You're the gay guy!" The audience was laughing so hard at that! I think too that Ahmed Ahmed didn't get enough time. The irritating comedian got way too much screen time...how much of his 'swearing' do we need to hear.
I think though that the short 'montages' without audio need to go, either have the audio of the stick or cut it out, it's no fun to just watch the comedians do something and not hear it.
8/10
Wedding Crashers (2005)
rating 1 votes must be by 90 year olds with nothing better to do!
This movie had the audience laughing through most of the movie. I had some good belly laughs which just goes to show how good the acting and writing were. I don't usually laugh the good at the movies nowadays. There were a few slow points and it's a bit long at just under 2hrs, but this movie is nowhere near a 1. You'd have to be either an idiot or not speak English to not enjoy this movie.
I use to hate Owen Wilson because of his personality, it just didn't fit in other movies. However, in this movie he is the perfect casting (unlike Depp in Chocolate factory which is TERRIBLE casting).
The movie has some plot twist which you just don't expect and it's got plenty of eye candy....and they don't discriminate...they sleep with girls of all races!
Herbie: Fully Loaded (2005)
Decent film....especially for
families. You don't have to worry about vulgar language or nudity here. Though there are some double entendres that some kids may or may not get.
However it is a decent film, it got a round of applause when it was over where I saw it, so people must've enjoyed it.
Lindsay does an adequate job here, her beauty is what really wins you over. The love interest part of the story though should have been explored more. That would really have helped add more depth to the film. I mean we pretty much know what the outcome of the race was going to be so a more fully played out love story would've helped the film.
Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)
Good movie overall
What spoilers can someone write here? We all know how the movie is going to come out!! This movie is nothing special. Actually, the original trilogy is much better than the prequel. It focused more on the story and characters than the prequel does. These seem to focus more on the special effects. Now that Lucas has his 'toys' 30 years later he seems to utilize them more, detracting from his story.
Some of the acting is wooden and there is too much thrown into this movie. Of course Lucas left himself a lot to do, but I'm disappointed in him. This movie didn't feel as special to me as it should be. I'm sure younger fans will love it, but for the wrong reasons. Maybe if you watch this as part of a Star Wars marathon where you watch them all, then it MIGHT be worth it. Anakin's transformation to Darth Vader just seems too easy and not enough angst is there.
Monster-in-Law (2005)
Jenny finally makes a good movie.
I can't believe the 12 1's I saw when I went to rate this. Those people must not have seen the movie and just like to go around and give 1's to any movie.
I saw this movie on Sunday, and it was fully packed. The audience was laughing through 90% of the movie. Virtually all the jokes got a medium to large laugh from the audience. The story had some nice twists, Jenny finally turns in some good acting, and she looks even more beautiful then before! I was there to analyze audience response and I can tell you this is not a 1 rating movie, this is at least an 8. Do not go by the rating here, it's misleading; weighed down by idiots.
You must see this movie if you want some good laughs!
A Series of Unfortunate Events (2004)
Good Twists & Turns, but a bit slow and too long
First, for the person(people) who said there should be a happier ending, it was said at the beginning of the film you should go to another theater or get off the plane, if you don't want to see a grim story. It was up to you to leave if you wanted a movie with a happier ending, so please THINK before you put a comment that makes no sense. Most movies won't give you the warning (e.g. Bad Seed, the).
This film, while it is a dark comedy, does show something good; Good conquering Evil. Count Olaf tries to kill the kids, but Violet using her ingenuity(and with the help of Klaus and Sunny) overcome his evil deed. Again, when Count Olaf tries to take them from their uncle's place, Sunny, the toddler, defeats his attempt. Then when Count Olaf tries to marry Violet, it is up to Klaus to beat Count Olaf.
So you see, while there are evil deeds throughout the movie, good does overcome them. It shows children that they can defeat evil. Still it isn't for the faint of heart, or for a very young child(as I saw one commenter who brought her 4yr old and complained about the darkness of the film and ending....read reviews before you bring such a young child to a film...duh!)
The only negative to this movie, as I see it, is the length. About a quarter to 40% in, it seemed to drag a bit. The running time listed 2hr 3 mins should've been trimmed. Movies are getting too long these days. If you can't tell a story in 1hr half - 1hr 3/4, EDIT-EDIT-EDIT!!!
Mr. Deeds Goes to Town (1936)
Great Comedy-Drama
Trivia Note: For "Hart to Hart" fans, you might recognize the Actor playing Cob. He is a 27 year old actor here(he looks like he's in his 30's), who later when on to play Max in "Hart to Hart". (Easy to recognize especially by the "froggy" voice)
This was a superb film, although some of the actions are a bit farcical. I enjoyed this more then Capra's "It's A Wonderful Life". This movie is better paced than that one. However, Stewart's character in the later film is more believable. The punching out of people by Cooper's character is not a proper response to someone "getting your goat". I can just see kids telling mom and dad, "But the hero did it in the movie."
Other than this, the morality of the movie is excellent and is just as relevant now as it was then. We're spending billions to fight a war, or "maintain the peace" in a foreign country, while poverty affect millions of Americans on our own soil. However, we have "no money" to spare to give them additional aid. Community Colleges, the last bastion of the low to middle income people, are seeing fee increases which may cause many students to drop out or take longer to finish college.
We need to distribute money to help those who want to help themselves, not give "free rides" to those who bilk the US government(which in turn is the taxpayers) by overcharging(e.g. in Iraq).
The Tuxedo (2002)
Good Jackie Chan Film
While people might be complaining that Jackie had technical help in doing the stunts, you must remember he's getting older and working in the Hollywood system. Also, he did virtually all of the stunts here, the tuxedo was used to allow to him to do NEW things, not just a rehash of the choreographed fight scenes he's done in previous movies. I think this was a good idea. Although at times it may have appeared silly, it was fun to watch. Think of this, no one complains when they see obvious fake stuff in matrix or other movies, why should people do that here then?
The Tuxedo allowed Jackie also to stretch his acting and do things that would not have been LOGICALLY possible without it. For one, the very entertaining scene where he imitates James Brown, doing the foot moves and shaking his ass was one of the FUNNIEST scenes of the movie; something he wouldn't have been able to have done without the pretext of the Tuxedo. Also, his play with the sword was all him---filmed at higher speed, but all him.
In conclusion, before I had seen this movie I had read the reviews and thought it was going to be a lousy movie. However, I was pleasantly surprised. I was laughing a lot(he does Action Comedy people, not just action) and enjoyed the fight scenes he did. However, I think Jackie was trying to show off more of his creative and acting side here.
I give this movie a 7, and wholeheartedly recommend any J.C. fans to see it. Also, anybody who likes vaudeville type humor will enjoy this too. Jackie is a cross between Jerry Lewis, Gene Kelly, and Bruce Lee.
