The Open House (2018)
Worst film of the 21st Century
Painfully slow.Ridiculous dialogue. No plot .. and more importantly no ending.Absolute pile of rubbish not even worthy of a TV release, let alone DVD or Blu Ray.
At the Devil's Door (2014)
Excellent creepy thriller with extremely unsatisfying ending.
I watched this film and it had me glued from the onset. The suspense is excellent and the acting is superb. The young girl plays an exceptionally good part at being spooky without even speaking.BUT,for me personally,I like a film with an understood ending. Young girl sells soul, kills herself then the story goes South from there. The Sister plays no relevant part although the acting is very good and the "Demon" itself is played to perfection. There is no explanation at the end,it's not even a case of leaving you guessing,...it just spoils the film as it had all the hallmarks of a truly memorable Horror but failed miserable at the end.If you can cope with loose ends and like "momentary" thrills then this is for you.
I Spit on Your Grave 2 (2013)
Unrated Cut is HORRENDOUS
I watched the original "I Spit on Your Grave" when I was a youngster (had a Video store that hired the Horror movies to kids under the counter,NAUGHTY MAN;-) and thought it was quite shocking. I didn't got to see the re-make as I heard bad reviews from family and friends. I happened to come across this "Part 2" by accident,so I put it on and watched it ... Boy..was I in for a surprise ...I don't know what the "edited" version is like, but the "uncut" edition is absolutely horrific (and I'm HARD core Horror) .... If you like your movies severe and disturbing,...then this unrated version is the one for you .... if you are in the LEAST bit squeamish ...don't watch it because it WILL offend you. Some of the storyline is a little shaky (to say the least) but the way it's played by such good actors/Actresses it's easy to forgive ... STRONG STOMACH REQUIRED!!!!
Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013)
Massive disappointment
The 2nd "chapter" (which means there will be more) was sadly one of the biggest anti-climaxes in Horror movies to date. The movie is nothing more than a "different version" of the 1st movie...in fact, there are so many flashbacks to the 1st part you may have well have been WATCHING the 1st part again. This time,it's the turn of Dalton to go into the "further" to find his Father ......there are no major jumpy parts (perhaps the odd one or two,but that's it).... VERY inferior sequel and I for one will NOT be spending good money at the movies to see part 3. The acting is quite appalling and Barbara Hershey has the lead role(and BOY does she overact it) whereas it was the family who were in the spotlight in the original. This should have gone straight to DVD .... the producers have just milked a good storyline to milk us of our money.
Avatar (2009)
This movie needs to be watched, not explained.
Took the kids to watch Avatar 3D at the Manchester IMAX and it's true, you really need to see this movie as it was intended. The other screens are good (I've been 3 times to watch it now) but IMAX cannot be compared nor beaten. The effects like so many have said are amazing and you really DO have to see for yourself what all the fuss is about and it will NOT let you down. I was extremely surprised at how fast the movie went by and it is so engrossing that all 3 times I have been,...no kids have interrupted the movie and not one mobile went off (bit of a record for Manchester cinemas as they seem to be afraid of tackling teenagers with mobile phones) Go and watch,...I'll bet you'll be tempted to go and watch it a second time.
