The Last of Us (2023)
I'm a newbie
I never played the game, and really knew nothing about it until the trailer was released. When I saw the cast and the genre, I knew I had to watch. I will admit that the first episode had me scratching my head a bit. I really didn't know what to expect.
The second episode helped clear things up. I was very impressed with the acting, sets and cinematography. Just shows that dark sets don't have to be so dark that the viewer sees nothing.
Then came episode 3, and I fell in love with the show. The side story of Bill and Frank was unexpected (to me anyway...again, knew nothing of the games) and was sublime. The actors, Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett, were beyond good in their roles. Add to that the Linda Ronstadt sound track...perfection.
Fingers crossed that the show continues to be great!
Slumberland (2022)
A New Classic
I adored this movie. For someone who has become quite cynical with today's world, this film has somewhat renewed my faith that mankind is capable of wonders. Marlow Barkley was perfect in this role, and Jason Momoa was wondrous. The special effects were beyond great. This is, hands down, my favorite movie in at least the last decade. It reminds me somewhat of "What Dreams May Come" with Robin Williams. That said, this film is not as dark. There were times when the amazing scenery made me gasp in wonder. I will be watching this film over and over again. I can see this becoming a go to movie for the holiday season (or really any season). Do yourselves a favor and watch this. You won't be disappointed.
Blasted: Gutta vs Aliens (2022)
Norge, du gjorde det igjen.
Norway, you did it again!
I so enjoy Norwegian humor, and science fiction movies. Put those two together, and you have a hit. I can understand most Norwegian, so I watched with subtitles (hate dubbing). There were many moments when I laughed so much my gut ached. Reminded me a bit of Saun of the Dead, minus the zombies. I am totally not getting the low ratings. Watch this!
Station Eleven (2021)
1000 Piece Crossword Puzzle...
...that someone managed to drop, scatter, and then try to put back together in a pitch black room. Sadly, none of the pieces actually fit together. Loved the book, so was really looking forward to this. What a let down.
Maggie (2015)
Couldn't get over the casting
Arnold? They needed a younger actor. He's just too old for the part. He could have been Maggie's grandfather. The other children are even younger.
Arnold has been in some decent movies (if you like non-stop action, but he didn't fit this role at all.
On the other hand, Breslin did a great job, and was appropriately cast.
Take Shelter (2011)
Mind blown
Beautifully filmed and well acted. Yes, it was slow to build, but hang in there. Sure would love to see a sequel of this film.
The Celebrity Dating Game (2021)
Cringe worthy!
Was looking for some mindless distraction before going to bed. Got ten minutes in...that's it. The really old "Dating Game" was horrible. This is ten times worse. So embarrassing!
Awake (2021)
Disjointed/no answers
Was so looking forward to this movie, as I love the genre. That stated, I wish I hadn't watched it. Never did find out why people were not able to sleep. And the ending? Think this would have been a better movie if they started it at the ending.
Alene i vildmarken (2017)
Better than the American version!
Was able to watch the first four season, and really enjoyed it. The people involved seem more at one with nature, and the super machismo is thankfully missing. Haven't been able to find season yet, although I know it is out there. They should really make it easily available in all countries, as there is such a high interest in shows like this these days.
Stowaway (2021)
Disappointed!
Waited a long time to see this. Such a let down. Good actors couldn't save this film. Dumb premise, dumb science, dumb everything. And the constant grunting??? Netflix, you need to raise your standards.
Windy City Rehab (2019)
Evil looking builds
Not a fan. She takes beautiful brick exteriors and paints them black. She says this makes the homes look sophisticated. I think it makes them look evil. All the backstabbing of her partner is also not a good look. My least favorite home "flip" show to date.
Nurses (2020)
Just no!
Retired medical professional here. There is nothing at all real or compelling about this show.
Passengers (2016)
Wake them the hell up!
So stupid that Jim wakes up Aurora and not the captain...or anyone who could run the ship. The special effects were amazing, thus a 4 star rating over my initial 2.
The Walking Dead: World Beyond (2020)
Wigs
Didn't watch for more than 30 minutes. Could not get beyond the bad wigs, bad acting, bad writing.
