The Last of Us: Long, Long Time (2023)
One of the best episodes of TV, period.
Much of this episode is stand alone, a romance the likes of which is seldom seen on TV, with characters new to the episode. Even ignoring gender for a moment, we generally don't even see people their age in a relationship depicted this way. It was tremendously moving and shows that even after an apocalyptic pandemic, humanity can find a way... for awhile.
I am intimately familiar with the game and know that this episode will suffer from a bit of gamer-hate brining the rating down, due to some gamers being pushed outside their comfort zone, and significant differences to this portion of the story vs the game. Tough. It's a brilliant episode of TV a period, even outside of this show.
MacGyver: The Challenge (1989)
Moving episode
I've been rewatching MacGyver with my kids, and going through all the episodes in order. This is the first time I've felt like leaving a review. I've always loved the show since I was young but like another reviewer here I feel some episodes can be cheesy or light on substance.
The truely sad thing about this episode is that the racial injustice shown in this 'fiction' from 1989 fit very closely with what I know to be the present day realities in parts of the US.
I really respect what the show was trying to do here, and they succeeded. But I wish things had improved more than they have in 20 years.
Stargate Universe (2009)
Lack luster performances and a waste of time.
It could be argued that this show would have gone down better had it not dragged the Stargate name into the dirt with it. Maybe people would have approached it with an open mind then? But this isn't the case.
None of the characters are engaging, likable. You don't care what happens to them. Dialog is contrived petty and downright fatiguing to watch.
I really tried to muscle through this rot, convinced they were setting the scene, but alas it's just rubbish.
It's not just that isn't isn't Scifi and doesn't have a plot to speak of, it's just plain lethargic and tiresome, and doesn't fit any genre. I'm disgusted with whoever fronted the money to create and broadcast this tripe, and hope they have no intention of seeing any return in the investment as there is no way a DVD release would get any sales and save this show. I'd rather watch episodes of "The love boat" to be honest.
