The Man from Snowy River (1982)
One of the great cowboy shows.
This is one of the great cowboy shows. It's not set in the US, but rather Australia, but it's classic cowboy through and through. What sets it apart is the lack of unnecessary violence, a natural plot, and excellent editing. The imagery of Australia, the plot, the editing, and the cinematography come together with great rhythm, to make this one of the most pleasing movies ever made.
High praise, but the movie warrants it. If you've not seen it, make it a point to do so.
Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain (2001)
As good as it gets for the mix of genres, comedy and love story.
Other movies of the quality of this one have their own strengths. This movie has it's own, and it must be seen to appreciate them. It's comedy, with pathos. It's love story, that threatens with tragedy, but has a happy ending. It has more characters developed than a six-pack of the every-day movie.
Got your interest? Then check this one out. Amelie is for you.
Exotica (1994)
A Terrific Movie, But Not For Everyone
This is a really wonderful movie, but it's not for everyone. It uses time slices back into time to bring the movie to a very natural and satisfying conclusion, and not one you are led to expect.
It may be slower than many expect in their movies these days. If you want fast pace, look elsewhere.
