Doctor Who: The Stolen Earth (2008)
OMG!!! Amazing!
I've already watched this episode a million times and the ending a million more! It's the ultimate collection of characters from Sarah Jane right down to Harriet Jones. Full of suspense, action, emotion, and laughter, this episode has to be one of the best yet! All the important actor's are great, it connects a lot of the previous episodes, and I'm going to die over the cliffhanger. The Doctor can't regenerate! NOOOOO!!! David Tennant is too good! His acting when he saw Rose was superb, he looked astonished and then like he was the happiest he had ever been in his whole life, which is just what I was expecting out of that moment. Oh, if only they had managed to embrace, that Dalek was too cruel (I know they're supposed to be, but I emphasize "too")!
However, even a brilliant episode has it's faults. The joke about everyone knowing Harriet Jones is getting a little old, I have to admit, but it's still a little funny. The actress who played Suzanne managed to mess up a really small part (her astonishment seemed really fake). Sarah Jane seemed a little wimpy (actually both her and Jack gave up a little too quickly, I think, when they found out it was the Daleks) at the end when she came across two Daleks. I suppose I still have to give her some credit though, she doesn't have any weapons whatsoever, but the least she could have done was to duck and reverse.
But despite these small faults, I still give this episode a ten. OMGosh! I can't wait for next episode! And then the season will be over! *sniffle* If only American television was half as good as this!
Doctor Who: Planet of the Ood (2008)
Worst episode of season 4 so far
This episode started out good, with the Doctor and Donna finding the dying Ood and seeing it turn red-eyed, but it went all downhill from there. The turning of the bad guy into an Ood was disgusting and the song of the Ood had too much of a human religious element to it. And the Ood at the end saying that their children and their children's children and so forth will remember the Doctor and Donna forever was just overdoing it, I think they should just have left right after the Ood were saved. Also, Donna has expressed a wish to go home twice in the past two episodes, yet she remains. Why?
I do like a few lines in it though, like Donna's line, "Why do you say Miss? Do I look single?" were hilarious. I also like the Ood's line, "I think your song must end soon...Every song must end." Very suspicious.
So one point for the funny lines and the song line, one point for being off Earth (finally!), and one point for just being Doctor Who, making a grand total of 3/10. Bleh
Doctor Who: The Fires of Pompeii (2008)
I've seen better
Weird in the beginning, depressing at the end. The cult was weird, and while I don't know much about history, it just didn't seem to fit in. The battle of the seers between Evelina and Lucius reveled more information about the Doctor than any character on Doctor Who has a right to know upon their first meeting with the Doctor. Also, the family seemed too modern-day, especially at the end when Evelina says, "Don't start dad, its what all the girls in Rome are wearing. See you later." And the "household gods" thing when the Doctor and Donna become the new household gods, thats just overdoing it.
But now for the good. I like Donna in this, she's really caring and wants to save everybody, but she can't. And she gives the Doctor a very important lesson: While he might not be able to save everybody due to a fixed history, that doesn't mean he can't save somebody. This really lightens up the gloomy ending and proves to the Doctor that he really does need someone, going against what he said in the Christmas episode of season 3 in which we first meet Donna.
And finally, a really theory-sparking message by Lucius: "Doctor, she is returning." OOO! Could this mean Rose, or perhaps... *drum roll please* ... The Doctor's Daughter?! *pokes the upcoming episode 6* Either way, OOO!
So, overall, four points for Donna, one point for "she is returning," and one point for just being Doctor Who, making a grand total of 6/10.
Doctor Who: Partners in Crime (2008)
Pretty good start to the new season!
I thought that overall, this was a pretty good episode. The monsters were cute, and the boss baddie really seemed like a nanny, she played her role well. I especially liked the beginning when Donna and the Doctor keep weaving in and out of each other's way, but just managing to avoid each other. This episode had many funny lines, however, when Donna was hanging and the Doctor tried to pull her up, I think they should have included something like the Doctor saying "You're too heavy!" and Donna saying "No I'm not!" I'm also wondering how in the world did he manage to pull her in by the legs through the window? That's physically impossible!
At the end with Rose, I was like OMG! I mean, its pretty predictable, but all the same, awesome! I've liked all the companions so far (but I have to admit Martha is my favorite) and its sad when they have to leave, so its good that Rose returns.
I would give this episode a 10/10, but I didn't really care for the cartoonish killing of the bad guy. So unfortunately, I must rate this a 9.
