WALL·E (2008)
The worst from Pixar - a very disappointed fan
When I read the reviews stating that Wall-E was the best movie from Pixar yet, "a masterpiece", I got really anxious to see it! How could they beat "Monsters Inc" story, or "The Incredibles" graphics, or "Findind Nemo"'s magic? Well... they didn't. I really started watching this movie with an open mind, but from the tedious intro, to the completely forced romance, the boring non-existent story and up to the stupid final I was utterly and completely disappointed. I think the rave reviews come from the kind of people for whom whatever's new is the best thing ever.
Wall-e falls in love in a second, with a robot the audience has never seen. Whenever I see this kind of romance in a live movie, I know I'm watching a bad romance.
All the humans are extremely fat. All of them. They can't even walk. Men and women. So that means no one is having sex? It's just not realistic. Sex is a basic need. At least for men it is! ;)
--- SPOILER ALERT ---
Read the following sentence only if you've already seen the movie... When the humans get back to earth, at the end of this drivel, they are happy to find that earth is a complete dump?! There's no way to survive like this! One tiny plant doesn't mean the soil is ready to grow corn or potatoes!!! A stupid ending for a stupid movie.
I give 3 out of 10 for the graphics and one or two jokes.
Kung-Fu Panda eats this one for breakfast, on the strength of its intro alone.
The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury (2004)
Great mini-movie, much better than the sequel
To anyone who has seen the excellent "The Matrix" and its horrible sequels, this animated movie "Dark Fury" is exactly the same as the "Last Flight Of The Osiris" (short animation) for "The Matrix".
So, we have a great movie ("Pitch Black"), and a very weak sequel (The Chronicles Of Riddick). But this little animated gem brings back our anti-hero in familiar territory: a great story (even though it's short) and some great sci-fi ideas (the frozen "collection" and the cyborg monster, for example).
If you liked Pitch Black it's guaranteed you will like this one. It can also stand on its own (no need to see anything else, although you would get curious), which is always a good indication of brilliance.
