Under the Mountain (2009)

Good production but amazingly boring!

There are only two reasons why i would waste my time writing about a movie. It is either because its brilliant or because it's a terrible waste of time! This movie falls into the latter category. Halfway into the movie, i find myself looking at the clock. Unfortunately, it didn't get any better. Wow, such great premise, how the hell did they miss the mark? The director is to blame here. It was so so lame and boring. The actors did a good job, though i would have to say that sometimes the reaction factor is kind of weak. Example, when Mr Jones was trying to heal Rachel, flames of fire came out of his hand, in reality any tom dick and harry would find this amazingly unreal and you would expect them to react in disbelief, but on the contrary, the kids are acted like they have seen this before. Wowsers! This movie gets a C from me.

Bandslam (2009)

WOW... It's like a good book you can't put down!

I was watching this expecting it to be another High School Musical, but i was wrong. I was watching it for the wrong reason, Vanessa Hudgens. Where was she? I could not spot her until the 8th minute into the movie. Did she make herself look ugly? wow just amazing. Then I realised this is a different kind of movie. This has an indie feel to it. It has tongue in cheek humour and Lisa Kudrow is perfect as the mother. Watch out for her funny moments. Hilarious. I found myself immersed and slowly drawn into the development of the characters. You have the usual beautiful cheerleader who is up to something no good. But everything falls into its place nicely. Wonderful casts, beautiful performances plus good direction. I could not have done a better job. Too bad it is really underrated. This has classic written all over it, just like one of those John Hughes feel good movie! Don't miss it. One gripe though, the lead actor has a funny-shaped head. I could not help but get distracted on so many occasions. BTW Is that nose real on Vanessa? And yes, surprise ending.

Cargo 200 (2007)

Good in a weird kind of way!!

I watched this movie without having any background information about this film. It really felt old. I thought i was watching an old movie that just made it into the mainstream, or it got picked up up by some major company and re-released. I have to say then that the director manages to portray the era quite well. It is an interesting film especially for some one who is not from Russia. I have to say in short, i feel like i've just watched a coen brothers movie! I just do not like the ending. It was not made clear enough or maybe the message got lost in translation. I kind of have to put two and two together to figure out what the movie is all about. I think i understand the movie. 8 out of 10 for me. could have been better executed.

Musallat (2007)

One of the best horror movies I have ever seen!

The movie opens with an interesting scene that gets you hooked. Then it moves to Germany. I do not speak Turkish so I cannot tell the difference. The only weakness of this movie if there is one, would be the scenes in Germany. But it does not bother me too much because the story keeps you on your toes. It is riveting. It has some brilliant camera work as the movie gets darker and creepier. At times, it feels like a story from "twilight zone". At other times, I see glimpses of one the great all-time horror favourites "The Exorcist". All in all, it has good special effects and a good climax, all for $1 million? Great work! I found my new hero! This is one director/writer/editor to watch out for. More please!!

Do not waste your time watching this! Unless you want to study it for all the wrong things you shouldn't do to make a good film. I am not one to usually review a movie, but this one is personal. I wasted precious time which they cannot give back. I feel compelled to write this report to warn others not to waste their time watching this crap. If this was a student project, i would have to say not bad, but only for the first 15 min... after that it gets annoying. the screaming, the bad audio, the bad video (a good camera man could have made it much better). and yes, whats with the Blair-Witch effect? no budget? I was hoping it was going to get better, but it doesn't. Now how the hell did it deserves a 4? 2 is more fair but 1 for wasting my time! I have said my peace.
