Kill Bill: Vol. 2 (2004)
Not at all what i expected
I've decided to make this a review for both volume 1 & 2, simply because I'm too lazy to write two.
Every time you see a Tarantino film you know it's going to be original and clever and that's exactly what i expected from Kill Bill. Well it certainly had the originality but it's the cleverness that made movies like "Pulp Fiction" and "Reservoir Dogs" so great that this one lacks.
Especially in Volume 1 it seems as if they are trying to hide the quite dull and uninteresting story behind lots of gore and "cool" effects and sure they've done a good job because it seems to have fooled the majority of movie goers.
Volume 2 was a bit better, it seemed more mature and intelligent than the first one and this is much thanks to some great acting especially from Uma Thurman who gives us a very believable and human assassin. I often found that the only reason why I kept watching was due to Thurman's acting and i certainly hope we're going to get to see a lot of her from now on.
Kill Bill isn't a bad movie, it does have it's bright moments and some very interesting characters but it isn't a "top 250-movie" either mainly because it just tries a bit too hard and sometimes it can actually get kind of boring which i thought would be impossible in a Quentin Tarantino Film.
I'll give Kill Bill vol. 1 & 2 7/10 stars for some great characters and acting but a not so great story.
The Passion of the Christ (2004)
Shouldn't be called a movie
You can't really expect a movie that follows one man for 12 hours to be any good and this one definitely wasn't. Sure it's not any ordinary man we're talking about but still unless you are a true follower of christianity this movie is not going to satisfy you.
Basically it's a movie about a guy getting arrested, trialled and after that beaten until he gets crucified. It seems that Mel Gibson's intention with this movie was to move and shock the audience but torturing Jesus as much as possible just doesn't do the trick. The movie has no depth no story and there's really nothing original about it.
The only positive thing in "the passion" is the acting which is quite good, especially Caviezel is very convincing in his role but unfortunately that's not enough to make this a good movie.
4/10 stars for "The Passion Of The Christ"
The 6th Day (2000)
Entertaining
Despite all the bad jokes and partly really bad acting this movie gives you two hours of good action and an interesting story. The fact that you get Arnold times two in this movie is only a bonus since Arnold really knows how to play a good action hero. Opposite to so many other action movies this one really does have a message and a good story that keeps you entertained through out most of the film. I'm not saying that it's a ground breaking movie exactly, apart from Schwarzenegger the acting can seem stiff and boring and all the bad jokes and lines can really get on your nerves, but as an action flick it still delivers and entertains. 7/10 stars for "The 6th Day"
The Count of Monte Cristo (2002)
great acting holds it up quite well
i thought the movie was great until the point when Edmond (Caviezel) stops planning his revenge and puts his planning into action. Then the movie becomes quite boring and looses its suspense.
It was great watching how Edmond grew from an innocent man who knew nothing of why he was arrested to this determined and powerful count in search of revenge, especially since Caviezel plays his role so well. But after that the fun is simply over, the rest is only good acting with a story you can see in any other movie.
Even though Caviezel played his role really good it was Guy Pearce who stood for the best acting, from beginning to end he was able to have you both hate him and love him at the same time witch is very rare. Another person who played his role very convincing was Michael Wincott who played the Warden of d'If.
I give it 7/10 for good acting and a great book turned into an average movie
