Blue Period (2021)
Masterpiece.
Despite the author being controversial, I really love this animanga. I wanna expand my manga collection of this as I only have Volume 1 and 2 so far. All the art talk, the relatable scenes, just everything was genuinely eye opening and you can see how much emotion was in the anime. Anyways, me and my friend described this as "mga OA na artist" (translates to over-reacting artists) at first but getting deeper into this series made me realize it wasn't just about artists that over exaggerate, but also tells stories of people and their differences when it comes to their life, their choices, their art. I especially love Yuka and Yaguchi's life story. The start where Yaguchi didn't know who he really was until he came across Mori's painting. Makes me think that if he never had left his pack of cigarettes in the art room, he wouldn't have ever got on the track of art. His story absolutely mesmerised me. Also, since maybe Yuka's trans(?) Yaguchi was transphobic at the start towards her but he really improved. He went from using masculine pronouns towards her then went to gender-neutral ones was a really nice add to detail. Yuka's story, however, was a rollercoaster that was enjoyable. Lots of ups and downs but despite all that, everything is solved just by her grandma, I love them both. I hate Yuka's parents, I really hope they could just support her in whatever she does. It has been 3 years since the anime was released and since I last watched it but rewatching it while also thinking of taking up arts as a major really made me understand the whole animanga a lot more. You don't always realize at the start that you want to pursue something, sometimes, it takes someone or something to realize this. That's what I've learned so far. I'll be going through a deep-dive of this series on any platform to deepen my knowledge and understanding as soon as I finish this school year. Such a mesmerising story, really.
